I'm not surprised that it does WAV files. WAV files are much easier and simpler to read. Anyone who knows about programming and is willing to be quick and lazy, they could write a WAV reader in 10 minutes or less (skip the header and read the pairs of 16 bit samples until EOF), while MP3 is usually handled by some library due the complexity of decoding and decompressing the format. Great oldies on your memory sticks!
those little bluetooth\mp3 modules actually sound really good, but you have to be careful to use a separate, isolated supply for them as the ground for the audio output should be separated from the ground of their power supply, otherwise you get lots of digital noise
The record playback on the Chinese player sounds like when you call a company on the phone and they put you on hold for an hour and give you some non copyright ditty to listen to in between the message about how important your call is to us and to continue to hold.
Thanks for sharing this with us, looking forward to you starting your online radio station you have a good taste in music, hopefully I can listen to it here in New Zealand.
These FM/Bluetooth/USB modules with the red display are actually halfway decent. They're dirt cheap so I've installed quite a few of those in mains isolated radios (powered by an half bridge rectifier, filter cap and LM7805) because AM is dying here in western Europe. One feature I really hate about them is the scan feature which scan though all the FM stations when it boots so you can't easily get to a specific one. It won't let you step through 100khz intervals like a normal digital FM radio receiver would let you do. They usually come with a micro SD port and an aux in input. The bluetooth and USB are the only good things about this. It's quite surprising to see one of these chinese modules in a commercial product
AM is actually actively killed by the privatized owners of the frequency licenses and radio infrastructure. They want to sell us terrible digital radio crap instead and killing the radio interconnectivity you used to have all across europe when you could listen to AM stations from so many countries and getting news and music from different sources. Can't have that today.....
The AM tuner on my el-cheapo combo unit is literally UNUSABLE with how the frequency selection works. Its not a multiple of 5 or 10 and skips most stations.
If I'm not mistaken, order of playback from USB stick is the order of files transferred to the stick but not how they show up in Windows. I usually have a program to send music files in order of a playlist one by one to the USB drive to ensure that they play in that particular order. Thanks for the video and good music snippets.
Sometimes the order in which each song is played is based on the ID Audacity gives each song file when you record it and transfer it to the thumb drive. That came mess up the order they are played in.
Glad to see you back with another's video. I still say that 1950s and 60s push-pull vacume tube audio equipment cannot be beat for sound quality. That warm tube sound is the way to go. No more vacume tubes from Russia thanks to Putin. Keep up with the great videos. Thanks
Class of '68 album by Floyd Cramer has some of the greatest piano music you can find. Great " Mission Impossible" theme song rendition. Think the Technics wins it hands down Bryan.
9:55 radiotvphononut .... Those types of USB media players tend to start with files that were last modified, placed first, placed last... its a gamble where it will start depending on the way the files were loaded/ arranged... i have yet to have a USB media player that plays in order.
This does look like an effort at a slightly better unit than is typical. When he opened the bottom up, I noted that they actually provided enclosures for the speakers, and what appear to be some passive drivers to improve the bass. And yeah, it's fake woodgrain, but it still doesn't look too awfully bad. The MP3/Bluetooth module looks a bit tacky, turned sideways like that, and looks like an afterthought. But hey, it adds those features so I guess I wouldn't complain TOO loudly about it. He said he paid $30 for it. I'd say he got his money's worth.
Just listening to the direct player output on headphones, it doesn’t sound too hideous, until you hear it correctly through your normal signal chain. I absolutely agree though that it also sounds slightly better direct from your turntable and preamp than the digital copy played back on the new cheapie toy. BTW, if that module does actually record, it’s 128mb/s MP3 files, which are pretty obviously inferior to CD quality digital or even higher bitrate MP3 files.
I have it, also, and it has their black label. I think where the difference comes in is the date that the record was created. Some of the same recordings were put out again by RCA and they used the orange labels for those. No difference in the sound quality.
RCA switched to the orange label sometime in mid-to-late '68 and with the switch to the orange label, they also discontinued mono pressings. My record has both stereo and mono catalog numbers, but mono pressings seem to be very rare. Actually, this record is badly scratched and skips on side two, and I use it for a test record. One day, I'll get a nicer copy.
@@radiotvphononut But RCA dropped the Victor name after the name change, because the Victor name goes to Japan as Victor Company of Japan known as JVC.
I am using a little blutooth speaker. The cheapo record player seemed louder, and and seemed "brighter". The technics seemed quieter and muffled. I guess my almost 60 year old ears cannot hear the upper range as well as I used to. Now, I'm sure with better frequency equalization it would sound perfect to my ears. But what's strange is music from RU-vid sounds just right to me. I like that cheapo record player because it's battery operated, something I wish I had. Only for the convenience, not for the best quality sound.
I am registered blind, I have not used library of congress talking books in years. Neat player for the new digital format. Vwestlife showed one of those players too.
Please don't EOL that unit when you're finished with it. There's always some kid with no money and no sound system that would enjoy that. You should see some of the crap I had when I was a kid, which just made me appreciate the good stuff when I was finally able to get it. This unit would be a step up from my first wreckord player!
As was commented before, the “Bluetooth SPEAKERS” (as they are often labeled) panel modules, with FM, mp3, aux & SD reader, are quite good for what they are, and quite cheap .. quite useable with a quality stereo audio amp .. caveats: supplying it with good 5VDC, and the “FM on a Chip” receiver is not very sensitive .. useful only in large urban areas (strong stations) …
That's Dream Kit for $30! If you're going for max views tho, U could just take an axe to it whilst cussing it out directly upon removal from the box. I'd be slapping the Like Button quick enuf.
hello radiotvphononut nice video this is better then the crappy crosley and i hope that you and your family are in good health and wishing you a good week and all the best and keep the great videos coming and god bless always be safe jon
Just can't compare this to the Technics. My primary turntable is a Technics SL-D1 and I do have that same cartridge in my collection. It's nice to see our tastes in some areas run pretty close to the same. My biggest surprise with the el cheapo is that it wasn't so noisy that it sounded like a high speed freight train.
You should also warn that the flip stylus that comes with the Pfahnsteil cartridge is a dual sided LP stylus. One side is labeled 78 but it is actually a sapphire LP stylus.
Radiotvphononut, where do you get your 45s from? They sound great! I like your music, radio stations should hire you not consultants. With your program choices I'd listen to your radio station every day all day! Not a bad unit considering price and origins in CHINA!...thanks for sharing !
Technics 1200 by far the best; the USB playback from 1200 through record player number 2 and the unbranded regular record player doesn't even chart. It is still OK for someone that wants to play records though and the price is fair in my opinion.
It is unbelievable how much better the techniques sl-1200 sounds. The Chinese player is so harsh and fatiguing. The 1200 is just so much less harsh. If you feel like doing it, put in the right resistor and do the comparison again. The 1200 is always going to sound better, but the Chinese player should no longer sound so shrill and harsh and fatiguing. It is un-listenable in its current state. The camera mic must not have been picking it up well, because when you playing the records live, they didn't sound so shrill and harsh. Or maybe the effect is not as bad on other types of music.
How long does that battery last on the record player? This looks like it would be great for modding. I'd put in a larger battery for more runtime. Those Library of Congress talking book players sound pretty good with music.
Greetings: It is possible that you have not examined the unsorted directory listings as I cannot think of a Windows 10 method to do so without software containing that feature. A software disk reader/editor. I myself had assumed that sorted file listing were sorted within the drive as opposed to within memory where you have limited tools controlling the sort mode. If you check, the order should be recognizable. Most directory (aka folder) structures use the "first available directory position that fully satisfies the command requirements and would seem most often to default to an alphanumeric sort in positive order. I was born in 1950; I think you are younger by a few years;I cannot get over your attachment to 78 rpm recordings. Yes, my home had a radio/phono console with a turntable invented by "he who uses the most parts gets promoted". None resembles a unit from 1963 (or earlier) onward. My mom's looked like Rube Goldberg was busy there trying to accommodate both 10" and 12" 78s, but not on the same stack, while somehow also accommodating new 7" 45s. The cabinet also had storage for real multi-disk albums. Two stack plays delivers all the cuts.
Even if the input impedance isn't properly matched for the phono cartridge, external speakers do go a long way toward better sound quality. Playin around with a used Jensen JTA-230 I dug up at a yard sale for like $4, I connected a set of older bookshelf speakers and the difference was significant. Not gonna BS anyone and say it would compete with a real stereo, but it was actually better than I had anticipated. There was a marked improvement in bass response (compared to the internal speakers).
Now that’s really cool. This isn’t a Crosley, Victrola, Music Public Kingdom, Philco and others, no! It’s a no name turntable. My 2019 Victrola all-in-one stereo system is not as bad as this one. But this one has FM only, but it doesn’t have an AM band, mine doesn’t have an AM band at all. You can stream your AM station via Bluetooth car adapter on 87.7 FM, so I can listen to WABC where I can hear Cousin Brucie on Saturday nights.
Greetings: You should make a sign to remind yourself to keep the subject matter within view of the camera. You may likely discover that your order of recording is the order of playback. Most of the time we display a list in either alphabetical sorted order or other sort that does not take the recording time/date into account. I would be surprised if randomized playback was your only choice, but maybe I am wrong. BTW: I do have and use the advanced digital talking book player. I do appreciate the ability to play MP3 files using a very short USB memory stick. Using headphones you quickly discover that playback is in stereo. I use a Bluetooth playback transmitter and Bluetooth headphones to play romance stories while I go to sleep. At 15 minute sleep intervals I don't miss much when I fall asleep. It is easy to back up and recover my lost minutes. I have always used it plugged into mains power. The side USB port will also accept a video game joystick for wired remote control. About 10 years now and my only trouble has been the large Start/Stop button gets partially stuck down that has me walking into my bedroom listening to something playing. I have to remember to power OFF the unit to avoid that situation. (Partial sight due to diabetes.) Some of those tiny FM, USB, Secure Digital gadgets were made for use in cars or boats or planes running off of 12-14 vdc. Some even have 4 spkr support. Check AliExpress, Banggood, ebay for similar.
All in all i've actually seen and listened to a whole lot worse, for someone who just wants to listen to some common records that they have that have already been played death i'd say it's probably a good way to go
“Cheap O’ Chinese”. LOL 😂 😂😂!! Very nice 👍 wood 🪵 look 👀 veneer, but it only hides the fact that this is a junkly record player. It only looks more hideous with the USB port on it. It makes this record player look 👀 like 👍 some child’s 🧒 toy 🧸. Not bad music 🎶. Your friend, Jeff.
Should see if it can Read Portable Hard Drives, as My sony Bluray Player Can and it Reads Movies off the Hard drive as well Maybe this can read Music files on a Hard drive, then use it to play what You Put on the drive, as You can put alot on a Large drive, i did, Alot of music and my drives not even Half full, I have alot of room on 500 gig HD.
It may not have enough amperage to spin a 2.5" HDD, and it may not support 500GB or larger memory. Some older DTV set top boxes only read/record on FAT32 fs. later DTV boxes are NTFS compatible
@@manFromPeterborough My sony Bluray player can, can't see why that won't, as the Bluray player works same ways as PS 3 does, and it can read any size hard drive along with USB stiks as i do Recornd Movies to the HD then don't need to use the DVD's so muck, plus easier to select a season on the Hard Drive , thats why i prefer that over USB sticks , as one can put alot of both movies and music to listen to on one, Maybe if they can create like a Large 1 or 2 TB USB drive i'd go that ways, As then can put a good size Library on the drive yet.
@@randymoyer5351 I wasn't doubting your BR player, I was saying that record player USB may not support portable HDD or 1TB memory, all my DTV boxes support 1.5TB or 2TB partitioned into 2 separate memory. The DGTEC 306 wont spin a 2.5" drive which sucks, misleading me into thinking I have to buy a PVR with internal drive. I've gone through a few USB set tops and PVRs till I found one that isn't buggy or lacking features, I've settled on Humax 7500 and 7510 as the Rolls Royce PVR, it offers 14:9 picture size for 4:3 monitors for optimum viewing of 16:9 programs to minimize news text being chopped on the hard left of screen
@@manFromPeterborough who sells those, might Be interested in some thing like that to Record on if its that large, as i do Record movies and Music to play, plus i still have alarge collection of DVDs and tapes to Transfer over, then be easier to watch on one Item, but some the new TV OTA boxes as well play My HD, but need way better antenna for those, not a very good Reception area, Now i just use Cable but thats getting expensive, be way better to have Movies on a large drive to just Watch. thats how i'm thinking till i find a cheaper solution.
@@randymoyer5351 I also dub 16:9 DVDs onto a 1.5TB drive so I can view them on the Humax in my preferred 14:9 ratio. I don't record TV movies as much anymore because of the bloody popups promoting other programs the channel is flogging, junking up - polluting the screen
Just wondering. If you are going to bust on it from the box forward...why the heck did you bother to buy it. You knew it was cheap to begin with. Is everything in your life totally negative ? If you dont like crap..Dont surround yourself with it. Jeez.
Same as with my Victrola VTA-600B where it only has a FM band, no AM. Thankfully, internet streams like TuneIn, Audacy and iHeartRadio as AM stations where it broadcast via Bluetooth instead of standard AM.
I Don't Use Iheart Radio Nor Do I Use ITunes Or Apple Music. I Just Load CD's In My Computer & I Bluetooth The The Music To My Tablet & Phone Then I Stream From My Tablet Or Phone To My Home Stereo Or My Bluetooth Speaker While I'm On The Go.
