2:16 I just realised something when you take out all the time Phos was unconscious or broken the whole story takes place in the space of a couple of years. I think the whole thing form baby Phos to prayer Phos takes place in less than 3 years of conscious time for Phos. Despite the truly epic timescale of the mange we go from baby phos to land of the pebles in the blink of an eye for phos. The manga was probably serialised longer that phos was awake between chapter 1-108.

Mercury analysis :D On point. After all, last time Phos lost their limbs looking for a job (and for Ventricosus but Cinnabar doesn’t know that), so that guilt is coming back. I believe Cinnabar is too depressed to let themself believe Phos would actually manage to achieve anything, instead of actual disinterest for improvement. Unwilling to let go of the minute hope to actually put a firm stop to their attempts, yet unwilling to put in effort towards what they determine as futile. But hell, Cinnabar, just say that you want a pal. That takes no effort. Then again, they have crushing anxiety about poisoning other gems… They don’t want to express the desire to be close and make it a burden. Phos: “change scary” …would putting a decoy on their bed while they explore the ocean count as lying? 10:03 Other translations make that line out more as Phos expressing they’re too occupied with their own troubles to spend effort on thinking about Cinnabar’s situation. “Taking care of my own issues is all I can do right now.” Which contrasts how that was basically top priority before arm loss. Suspicion will magnify the possible bad over the known good. Phos does still cry over Kongo’s kindness towards them later on, so it’s not completely forgotten. And, can they be certain that Kongo’s kindness isn’t just a ploy to keep them in line…? We are more sensitive to danger than to safety, though we have also seen Euclase comment on the gems’ general insensitivity, and then their own comparative higher awareness due to being brittle…
