Bort’s Pride | Over Analyzing Houseki no Kuni Chapter 23 

Bort to me comes across as the strict disciplined teacher; they critique in a way that seems standoffish but at the same time their intention is to push others to become better versions of themselves. You’re right where diamond doesn’t seem to improve but Phos does, and that attracts Bort’s attention (which leads to that jealousy) but Bort still does care for Dia and the other gems, as shown during the fight with Shiro. It’s just that Bort doesn’t express it as clearly as some of the other gems.

the idea of Dia putting on and act reminds me of when they thought that Phos had turned into a slug, and they went around asking the gems for advice and none of them wanted to help, and Diamond says something like "nobody will like you if you're not nice, Phos". And of course, Diamond is the nicest of the gems...

This made me want an episode on each gem and what they went through to become who they were after being made. I bet Antarcticite had to change so much to fit in because she’s literally a liquid most of the time. Also I can’t believe there was never a greeting party for antarcticite. That made me so mad ever since I even saw it the first time.

i absolutely love hnk, but i just never fully understood dia's hatred towards bort. i know dia says "if only bort weren't here" at one point, and i guess that means she's kinda jealous, but i don't really see dia as someone who is jealous and wants to be "the best". i know she tries like new techniques and stuff to try and get better, but i still think she is just honestly kind towards the other gems. also when phos got stronger and stronger, dia wasn't jealous of phos or didn't act weird about him. i find it really hard to understand why dia was so pissed at bort.
