I know. We all do. I was an 80s / early 90s kid and I saw so many of his movies at the cinema (when they were first released). He was, is and will always be one of my favourite actors of ALL time. I must have seen “Uncle Buck” about 100 times and the wave he gives at the end still gets me every time. John Candy was absolutely awesome. 👍
+Pete Kavar My girlfriend's mother hates the end where they pause it with Buck waving and fade out because like you said, it's like John Candy saying goodbye to all of us. She was a big fan of his and loved this movie. I think in a tribute to John Candy after he died, they ended it with that scene, too. It makes a lot of John Candy fans sad when they look at it.
Funny thing though, he didn't miss anything over the past 20 years. Candy's old skool, he wouldn't fit in today's sensitive society. He'd probably be shaking his head.
The other John, Hughes, knows *exactly* when to raise the volume of Hugh Harris’ Rhythm Of Life to envelop Tia’s smile, Buck’s acknowledgement, Tia’s wave, and that final freeze frame. Can’t help but be brought to tears. Both Johns left us too soon.
I love how by the end of this movie Tia who was lost and confused found someone who could help her and be there for her no matter what. She finds a hero.
I know the critics panned most of his movies, but John Candy was one funny dude. His range from adult humor to family entertainment is remarkable. Miss him and Mr. Hughes big time. RIP, gentlemen.
The wave puts me in tears every time!!! I had the VHS of this movie and watched it over and over back in 1989 when it came out. I was 9. When I was that young I would laugh at the comedy in the movie. But now I am almost 40 and I see all the logic and perspective inside this movie. God I love John Candy! Uncle Buck, Del Griffith, the late 80s. Was great time!
Agreed that I too miss Mr. Candy, but deep down, I think we all miss the innocence we all had when we first watched this 30 years ago. I hope your midlife is as smooth as it can be and I hope we can all get to our golden years with the great memories of growing up in the 80s.
"The Beast is good for another 100 thousand miles" looool 🤣🤣🤣🤣, this movie has so many hysterical lines. Such a funny and talented man Mr Candy was. He and Hughes working together was a winning combination. So much talent for two dudes both born in 1950. RIP, Gentlemen. Your work will live on forevermore. Thank you, both for your entertainment and contributions to it.
Such a great actor that will never be forgotten. This is the best film ever. Love the ending of this and planes trains and automobiles when they freeze frame on john candy smiling. Makes you spare a thought of him and how his life was cut short.
Trying not to cry here but they didn't get any better than John Candy! Thank you for making my childhood and teenage years a great time in the 80s and 90s
Such a perfect ending. It wraps up all of the plot points of the movie and reminds us of why we love the characters (I also just noticed that Tia's father is wearing a very similar outfit to Buck's--large coat and matching hat--to signify that they're brothers, what a neat touch!). And then that final image of John Candy waving goodbye, a smile on his face...that's how so many of us will always remember him. A perfect tribute. Thank you for the laughter, Mr. Candy.
Love the ending.Tia was hostile towards him but in the end she had MASSIVE RESPECT for him because he looked out for her and cared for her no matter what
Wonderful movie. Took on complexities of adolescence, but also had a nice dose of wit, values, and heart. There was never a perfect time. BUT there was a time where hip-pop, dysfunction, and texting didn't rule the world and a bunch of Facebook generation morons didn't keep churning out movies with tons of special effects, but nothing else.
Fukin John Hughes!!! Almost all his movies have a scene like this one, Ferris B Days off scene where the ferrari got wrecked and Cameron says hes gunna take the heat, Wierd Science during the song tenderness & where they say goodbye to Lisa, 16 Candles where Jake is waiting for Sam ending scene, Breakfast Club classic ending scene about who they are, even Home Alone Kevin says sorry to his mom and she walks into the house!!! He always puts family Morals behinds his movies :)
Just saw this again on tv. Great movie! Love the 2 Johns .... Messrs' Candy and Hughes.John Hughes had a great instinct for picking out the perfect tunes for his movies. This Hugh Harris track is just perfect! Such a perfect ending. Will always love it and the 2 Johns. Thanks for the movies gentlemen!
John Candy was that very special type of actor, he could make you laugh and cry in the same movie. No one will ever be able to replace him. His hand up goodbye at the end was for all of us. Goodbye John, you left us much to early.
I love how John Hughes does the freeze frame of John at the end of this movie (also in Planes Trains and Automobiles) such a good ol Canadian boy. I was only 8 when he passed away and have never heard any negative comments towards the man. Watch the "True Double Blue" documentary of you can, it shows the real John Candy between his life in Toronto and his life in Los Angeles
This is why John Hughes is a master artist. He personally new Candy and his live-fast-and-hard lifestyle and wrote this character, a exact copy of Candy. This ending is amazing cause it shows Buck's life changing for the better, but Candy was not that lucky but had all the amazing features Buck presented in the end. The part where Candy says "We going home we're not dying!" is symbolic because he did die a few years later. That line and the famous "wave" will be remembered forever,
@@smill1985 😊 "Land of confusion" seems a appropriate song again now sad that. but i hope this genx have a better decade coming up like we did in the 90's. Jesus did we enjoy the 90's
Probably my favourite John Candy movie!! 1989 was a good year for movies! Uncle Buck, Dead Poets Society, Road House, Batman Returns, Turner and Hooch…
awwww u cut out the swearing at the end its best part! SHIIIIITTT!!! LMAO. Cracks me up. all the pots falling everywhere after he tried so hard clearing things up to be pitch perfect.
My god, John Candy had the kindest face and the kind of smile that could launch a thousand ships! An absolutey wonderful and versatile actor who is missed, missed, missed! Cheers John for giving us YOU 👏👏👏👏. Chris (UK).
I used to watch this movie Daily on VHS. I loved John Candy! I love all John Hughes films! Such great writing with real characters and emotions! The acting wasn’t the best! But it didn’t matter because he had us so attached to each character in every film. We didn’t notice they were acting. It just flowed in a weird way!! I loved his movies and John Candy was and is still a favorite actor of mine
Great film, great scene. John Hughes rites of passage stuff with schmalz I can somehow accept in his movies. And John Candy to boot. Brings a tear to the eye. I remember I was coming back from watching an ice hockey match (in the UK that is, and it's not a big sport here!) and that night we heard on the car radio the big fella had died. I don't think any of us spoke for ages through fear of breaking out crying!
John Candy was a certainty of an actor. you know that you were in for a treat when he appeared in a film. I remember him in the World War II movie, 1941. Very enjoyable actor to watch.
I just saw the house today from outside including the Planes Trains and Automobiles House, Home Alone House and the High School. I did it all for John Candy, I miss him:(
One of the most intelligent actors that ever lived John candy was taken from us way too soon only the good die young I grew up watching John candy it’s a big part of my life
