A combination of strong dialogue, acidic characterization, and bitter irony make this one of the strongest in the series. Cedric Hardwicke's Uncle Simon is as vicious as a Dickensian shopkeep, and Constance Ford's Barbara provides a living allegory of resentment and greed.
