Yeah some people get stressed out when they’re stuck.
@jbnrusnya_should_be_punished
It is interesting to watch how off-road vehicles scurry around in the snow. Especially since I don't have it. But in my opinion - when there is snow and winter time comes: 1) you must put on all 4 winter tires, 2) when there is already a lot of snow, you need to put chains on these winter tires. This helps a lot even on regular cars, even rear wheel drive. So my guess is that if everyone in the video used chains, you could reduce the number of rescues and tows by 90%. But you just wanted to fool around in the snow...
@4x4rescue74
@4x4rescue74 Год назад
Chains don’t work well in deep snow. It’s better to air down super low and try to stay on top. There’s no way you will make contact with the ground when it’s 3-6’ deep. If you’re driving on road ways with 1-2’ sure, but not when you’re dealing with several feet. I suppose if it was already packed down and iced over chains would help but even then they like to dig down.
@jbnrusnya_should_be_punished
@@4x4rescue74 I agree that I have not tried the snow chains in very deep snow, as in your case, when the snow is above the wheel. But even about one or two inches you said something strange. With such a thickness of snow, chains are usually not set up, unless it is already the thickness of a rolled dense crust or icy coating, along which the chains cannot dig to solid ground. The essence of the chain is to provide a much higher grip of the wheel with the surface. It can be so strong when the wheels hit the ground that the instructions say not to put much on accelerator, otherwise you can break the drive shaft in some cases. But judging by your video: all your tires are wide and not winter at all. Just tires for mud and dirt? The tire depressurization method you mentioned is known and also comes from driving on sand and soft ground. In snow, the opposite is recommended - not wide, but narrow tires (so the contact patch with a slippery surface is smaller for sliding, and the mass per unit area is higher, and for snow and ice it is preferable from the point of view of physics, so the general recommendation is to use tires one size for winter narrower, not wider) and in some cases the release of pressure also helps, I agree. But, I repeat, I use chains on two simple weak sedans when the snow falls 10-20 cm. And for the sake of interest, of course, I drove with chains through snowdrifts 30-40 cm high, but not a meter, as in your video. But still - none of the best winter tires in the world, even with a pressure lowered to 1 bar, will not provide such grip as even the cheapest snow chain on the same tire. Even in a meter deep snow. Just take any of the SUVs from the video next time, put narrow factory wheels on it again, but preferably with winter tires, put chains on all 4 wheels and you will be surprised at how it will drive in deep snow. Maybe not perfect due to the ground clearance (not all SUVs are good at pushing snow under the bottom due to their design), but much better than what you would expect.

The great thing about using tire chains is that they work a lot better than whatever you guys are doing. In these kinds of various deep snow, slush, and ice conditions, tire chains on my Chevy solve many handling and traction problems that I've seen while doing off road vehicle recoveries in Colorado.
@4x4rescue74
@4x4rescue74 Год назад
Some guys run chains but it’s not common when you’re dealing with several feet of snow. We usually only get stuck when we’re playing in the berms. Chains like to dig down, airing down super low helps keep you on top. Hard to run chains when you’re airing down to 5-10psi.
