Love how you are explaining that coatings aren't bullet proof 🔫 A lot of people are given a quick sell that the coating will last blah blah years & it doesn't because they weren't told they have to take care of it, so they think that coatings are a crock. All because they weren't educated on what needs to be done. Great job Phil👍👍
Lots of useful information, thanks for sharing, Phil! I have what I believe to be a clogged coating, and am going to try your unclogging techniques. Always learn things from watching your videos, so glad that you share your knowledge with the detailing community, it is greatly appreciated. Thanks again, and have a great day!
The asking questions part is such a good tip. This can set you up for more up-sells and such a great way to figure out more about what the client expects / wants. Solid video again Phil.
Hi Phil love your videos. Mileage instead of years for coating durability is genius. Technicians Choice make a dressing that's similar to Hyper dressing. Not as dilutable but results are pretty much the same.
Phil & Jess awesome job looks great awesome turn around awesome tutorial for new comers and mobile detailers that do this on a daily bases as always be safe God bless William from extreme optimum auto detailing pr
Great explanation on the coatings. I explain this to my customers daily because they think the coatings are bullet-proof. It's a great pitch for a maontenance plan!
Yeah for people who don’t know how to take care of their vehicle in the first place it’s not worth it. Many of those people just think it’s bullet proof and get upset when it doesn’t live up to their expeditions…when it’s their own fault for not caring for their their vehicle properly. For those people we suggest a quick polish and sealant.
To be honest, that's why I think many detailers are simply going to a good spray applied coating. Maintenance for any type of coating would be the same. "Clogged" coatings due to road grime, lack of maintenance, etc. is the same not matter what you use.... So if you just simply spray a coating every time you wash and maybe once a year, do a quick one step polish and reapplication of a spray coating...your car will look awesome. I find myself doing this also....but we tend to overthink the process. I know the characteristics for a vile coating is much better in quality, but the gap between the two is narrowing. Something to think about. Lastly, the wheels are always thought to be the most aggressive on coatings when it's the spray from the wheels on the body panels that causes problems with coatings. thanks for a great topic !
Hi. This was the first vehicle in all 10 plus years of applying coatings. This vehicle was simply not washed since it was coated. Unfortunately thats what happens with any type of protection...wax, sealant, doesn't matter, maintenance is extremely important and necessary. But yeah If after having a conversation with a customer and they admit they only use car washes, or they don't want to wash it regularly, then i usually try to talk them out of a coating and just sell a polish and ceramic sealant instead. Wouldn't be worht the money for them.
Good morning Phil I just just got my truck 2022 F150 ceramic coated this past week and everything you explained in the video the shop that did the detail on the vehicle also told me the same thing every six months to a year to go back and have them look it over. With that said I would like for you to recommend me some good products that I can keep my maintenance up until I take it to them every six months cleaning supplies topcoding and drying towels I seen a lot of Titan chemicals that I like that you explain and also all the detailers please can help you out with that they’ll be awesome. And thanks for your great knowledgeable videos you guys are awesome.
Also ask if the vehicle is close to an airport or trains or shipyard or beach. One of the things that some dealerships do is apply a Ceramic sealant but still you notice it has never been decontaminated before even applying that.
I email my detailing clients a coating care guideline (I also put a picture of their car/truck on it to "personalize" it) with the limits of a coating, how to properly wash their coated vehicle, what to look for when the coating isn't performing as well as it should and links to buy the products to maintain. I also offer to get it for them, using my discounts. I also offer my clients coating maintenance, pricing based on their vehicle.
Hey Phil! Could you do a video on what to do when you have an old ceramic coating and want to completely strip and restart the car. My dad bought a car a year ago with some form of ceramic coating on it. Most of it has failed but I don’t think it would be correct to put a new coating right overtop the old botched one. Thanks!
Hi. When we re do a coating I’ll definitely go over that process. Basically just polishing it again with a medium foam pad and polish and do a paint enhancement will remove any remaining coating. You don’t have to compound it aggressively.
Hi. There is no huge difference. The claims of both types of coatings have been massively misleading. All Coatings are great but still need maintenance and better yet the vehicle should be kept out of the elements as much as possible.
Question. My wife's black suv was ceramic coated 2 years ago with Ceramic Pro and they did an annual maintenance 10 months ago. It's parked outside in the drive way and I maintan it, hand wash it with most products you use, d.i. water, etc. Why do you think the hood of her suv beads water so tight that they don't easily sheet off? Does that mean it's clogged? The rest of her vehicle sheets pretty well but the hood suddenly got my attention. Is that normal to bead so tight that it doesnt sheet off right away?
Hi tight beading is how a ceramic coating is supposed to react. That’s actually a good thing. You can flood the panels with water and it will sheet off also. The sheeting usually means it’s a little clogged. Flood the paint with a garden hose or the pressure washer with the tip removed and use the water like a blanket on the paint to sheet the water off.
Phil, thanks for another great video. I've been able to learn a lot and appreciate the help you've provided. I have applied diy ceramic to my daily drivers and was thrilled with the initial results. After regular washes, I noticed that the coating began to fade at about the six month mark. At first I was thinking it was the product, but after watching this, I think it's my approach to maintaining the coating. I have started applying a topper and the water beading has come back. If I understand correctly, should I be using a rapid decon on the weak areas and then apply the topper as part of the maintenance? Am I missing anything? Thanks, CB
Hi. Thanks. Yeah you can deconing those areas that may be going flat and see if it’s just clogged. Add the topper definitely helps add the extra layer of protection also.
What do you think of spraying tar remover. (Applies to iron remover too) then cover them with ph neutral snow foam? So it can dweel longer and maybe it the iron / tar remover can be more effective?
Hi. I have done that before but I want the full force of the tar remover to work and not be mixed with any other chemicals. Same goes for iron remover. I like to do each step and not mix them. I find they can cancel the effectiveness of the chemicals to work.
Hi. Not from our experience. Nothing can stop water spots from etching if they are left there on the vehicle. True protection helps minimize its initial impact, but constant washing and protection or having your vehicle under cover and away from sprinkler systems is the only way to ensure that. I know, it’s annoying. Nature loves to destroy our stuff. 😅😎👍🏼
I still have about 3/4 of a gallon left of that hyper dressing. I had no idea it was no longer going to be sold. Any idea as to why that may be? -p.s. very informative and educational video, this is the content we need. Thank you!
Yeah it was into the start of Covid that some dressings went of stock because of some of the ingredients being hard to source. At least thats what I have researched.
Hello Phil and Jess. On the basis that Ceramic Coating can be attacked by nature as much as say a wax or sealant, would you say for a daily driver that Ceramic Coating only advantage is longevity. It appears Phil that the main advantage of Ceramic Coating is on a vehicle that is used rarely. Maybe for a daily waxing every 6months then using a topper when doing a maintenance wash is as good.
Hi. Yeah I mean it depends on many factors. As long as you’re washing and maintaining the vehicle with a coating it’s awesome. But even waxing and sealing a vehicle on a regular basis you will get the same results, it’s just more work then maintaining and coating each time. I guess people have to weigh the pros and cons and decide for themselves what makes sense to them.
FYI..When I top a coating, I use a spray coating within the same family. I recommend a detailer once a month, within the same family. Especially on daily drivers. I also recommend 2 or 3 times a month, pH neutral washing and or ONR cleaning. During winter, I recommend weekly washes for daily drivers, since we have cold, salty roads, and road grime.
Hey I have a question I’m removing over spray from A ford f-150 with a ceramic coating I was gonna try an iron Decon first if I am not able to remove all the over spray do you have any suggestions without removing the ceramic Coating
@@MirandaDetailing I just texted my customer and asked what kind of overspray but I believe it is car paint overspray it’s A lot on the windows some on the paint from what I could see what are your suggestions?? I use a lot of chemical guys products…
@@stevenmadamba8250 Ok. Yeah you will have to use something strong to remove it, unfortunately. possibly even claying it. No chemical will remove paint overspray without damaging the coating. I mean that should really be an insurance job, to remove overspray is not easy or cheap. at best you may be able to gently clay it off and then use something like Carpro Essence plus to polish and revive the coating on there already. How long has the coating been on there? Do you know what coating it is?
@@MirandaDetailing not sure of the coating it was from a carlot I may want to strip the paint clean and add some new protection? Just go though all the steps?
I really thought that you COULD NOT put iron remover or tar remover on a ceramic coating because it would take the ceramic off. But I guess I was misinformed by other “RU-vid” detailers
Hi. Oh yeah. Not sure why anyone would say that. They obviously don’t realize that ceramic coating companies actually make their iron and water spot removers specifically for their coatings to maintain them. Sorry you got bad intel. Hopefully this will help you out! 😎🤣
Would you think it’s likely to be poor maintenance, leaving bird poo and sap etc too long, and maybe cheap products used, I’m not sure dealers apply the coating, I told them to leave it when they offered it to me, same when it’s goes in for service, I always tell them don’t wash my car 😁 I even hang a sign in my car.
Oh I see. The filming makes them look like that. Also some tires after multiple hits with a strong cleaner and the foam is not turning brown anymore will still look brown like that. Some tires simply have that color or bloom so much that’s it’s impossible to get rid off. It’s ok though. As long as you cleaned them and dressed them it’s fine. Tires are one of things that will be replaced every few years anyway.
@@MirandaDetailing The same thing happens to me with the two vehicles at home, the same treatment for the tires (of different brands) and those of one vehicle remain black and clean for longer than the other (in this one they quickly turn brown), the worst thing is that the mine is the one that looks worst and is the one who cares the most 😅
Gtechniq is a highly-respected line of detailing products and are used by many You Tube detailers. I've used their ceramic wheel coating and it's a great product.
