Unclogging Culverts Under Frozen Pond To Drain Flooded Road With Huge Powerful Whirlpools.

I do not encourage anyone to enter culverts, unclog anything, or enter flooded areas as it can easily become deadly without the proper training
I unclog drains for fun in my spare time (I have been trained in culvert inspections for years with private co.) and I am osha trained.
Exploring anything abandoned can be dangerous or deadly without experience. I don't encourage anyone to enter any abandoned structures. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal, and when possible I seek out permission from the owner or local police. I simply go to document its history before it's gone forever and I leave things the way I find them. I only take pictures and only leave footprints. I assume all the risks and responsibility before doing this. Please don't attempt to do this on your own. There could be nails, asbestos, falling concrete, soft floors, animals, or other hazards. Thanks for watching.

I am going to try to fix the big high boots, I'm leaving this comment because there's so many people saying I should try using bicycle tire patches or a pool patch. I think that's a good idea but the only problem is the rip is in the fabric part of it with the rubber in between it, I don't know if I'm going to be successful or not but I'll try it. Thanks for watching

Contact the manufacture, I’m certain they make patching kits. The boots sound like some of the raft material, if the boot manufacture is out of business then a raft manufacture like Aire might have what you need. Don’t toss those boots, they should last many years.

Good Waders and worth their weight in gold, as they say. If you cannot save the torn wader, keep the ‘good’ one. You never know you might be glad if this happens again. As long as you don’t end up with 2 left or 2 right waders. 😊. I can imagine at some future date you’ll find yourself explaining why you have odd waders on! 😆. Go you!
@sinnervx9
@sinnervx9 Год назад
They make patch for your specific application. Ones made for breathable hip waders, neoprene dive suits and such. The kit is less than 10 bucks on Amazon. Do NOT use a tire or pool patch, the adhesive they use won't work with that fabric.

Post, three things. First, get a swimming pool vinyl liner repair kit. When you find the leak in the waders, you'll have the stuff to repair it. Second, how about a bright green or orange ping pong ball to let go through the culvert so that people can see how long something takes after you open it? Third, ought to be some kind of measuring pole you could shove in the pond, so that we could get a better visual on how much water has been released. Just a few thoughts. You keep up the awesome work man! Oh, and it ain't the heat, it's the humidity. Once you get above 85 degrees, any humidity over 80% is going to make it utterly miserable. Last summer, we had a stretch of 90+ degree temperatures, with over 90% humidity. The Heat Index was over 105 most of those days.
@dianeladico1769

If you want to get bigger whirlpools, I suggest clearing the output pool so the water can drain away faster. What matters for the flow rate is the difference in water level between each side, so if you can get the water level down on the output side it will flow faster. The water level was about 90% of the way up the first culvert when it was flowing fastest, so there was potential for it to go much faster.

Hate you got holes in your tall boots!You could probably keep that clam as a pet. LOL When I moved out here years and years ago, 2 old women neighbors had a scoop pond in their yard. When they went fishing, they'd bring the fish home and dump them in the pond until they were ready to cook them. Then they would scoop out what they needed to eat. Their family had been there for generations before power and refrigeration got out this far down the bay. I learned a lot from them. Keep the videos coming. I love them all.

Fixing tears/holes: get some Aquaseal. Turn the wader inside out. Use a thin layer of the Aquaseal around the edges of the tear or hole, and let it sit for a few seconds. When the Aquaseal is tacky, apply a patch down over the tear and press it into place on the seal, then hang up the waders, still inside-out, to dry for about 24 hours. You can put extra Aquaseal around the edges to make sure the patch is completely sealed up too, if you like. That should last for a while.

My thoughts for boot repair/improvement. Grab some sheets of course kevlar, and a can or two of flex seal. spray down a surface coat of flex seal onto the upper of the boot, but not the sole. go as far up the boot as you feel necessary (i'd probably stop at about mid-ankle to maintain flexability). Once that's just slightly tacky, lay the kevlar sheet/strips down onto the boot in a way that doesn't impede flexibility too much. across two points from toe to heel, spray a light pass of flex seal and attach thin strips that go down and across the tread of the boot. ideally, these would go into the grooves of the tread so you don't walk on them. the strips going across the tread do NOT need flex seal sprayed on them, they're plenty durable on their own. stick the strips on both sides of the upper so they're held in place, then coat with a light pass of flex seal. once that becomes slightly tacky to the touch, coat in a thicker (but not too thick, since flex seal takes ages to cure when thicker) pass of flex seal. a final light pass should be all it takes to ensure they won't puncture, rip or tear anymore. the two strips across the tread are to prevent this sprayed on upper from lifting away from the original boot.

As a kid I was allowed to walk on ice if it was 3 fingers thick, 2 fingers was possible, but risky (so we did it anyway obviously) the beauty of this rule is that it works for kids as well as adult. they have thicker fingers, so they need thicker ice. Note: All the water and ice involved here was very shallow, so it wasn't really dangerous even if we would crack through. This rule certainly was NOT used on deep lakes..... And they (the adults) made very sure we knew that!

If this happens again, I'd love a camera placed at the other end of the pond with sound, just to listen to the cracks as the pond drains, one of the best sounds ever!

you should put a tin can or spray can lid over the marker post while clearing the culvert just in case you slip and land on it.

I used to live in South Africa and I now live in Ireland 🇮🇪. Watching you makes me very homesick and a little jealousy creeps in.😊

"I can feel excavator damage on my feet!". You definetly need to put that one on merchandise.

The scenes you show us is just beautiful and I don't know why I enjoy watching the clogs get broken. I get scared for you sometimes because it looks so dangerous. You have to know what you're doing to be able to do this and you have proven you definitely know what you're doing. Keep up the great job.

Dancing whirlpools, love it. At about the 35 min mark, that's so beautiful watching the current tug away the sediment. Really enjoyed watching you have fun with the ice. Reminds me of childhood.

For those who may try this without waders or who fall in: remember to get the wet clothes off BEFORE trying to warm up. Water is a thermal dump and it takes more energy to heat it than your body will produce.
