Unclogging Double Ended Culvert Clogs

I do not encourage anyone to enter culverts, unclog anything, or enter flooded areas as it can easily become deadly without the proper training
I unclog drains for fun in my spare time (I have been trained in culvert inspections for years with private co.) and I am osha trained.
Exploring anything abandoned can be dangerous or deadly without experience. I don't encourage anyone to enter any abandoned structures. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal, and when possible I seek out permission from the owner or local police. I simply go to document its history before it's gone forever and I leave things the way I find them. I only take pictures and only leave footprints. I assume all the risks and responsibility before doing this. Please don't attempt to do this on your own. There could be nails, asbestos, falling concrete, soft floors, animals, or other hazards. Thanks for watching.

Many of our locations from previous years have relocated the Beavers so Beavers won't be as large of an issue this year. I will continue to use the overnight camera for draining Time-lapse and if a beaver happens, it happens. Thanks for Watching

Hey buddy The reason the trail cameras don't work is that the sensor at the base is a PIR. As you likely know passive infrared detectors have a two section sensor behind a frenzel lense. The sensor and the lense work together so when infrared heat or objects change or move there is a voltage difference between the two half's of the pyroelectric sensor. Your problem is that the beavers and the water are at arround the same temperature and PIR sensors are not good at detecting changes through water and cannot see through glass at all. You will only get a PIR trigger if the beaver gets out of the water then there is a big contrast in background heat and the heat from the beaver thus triggering the PIR that commands the cammera to start. This is why these detectors are used in intruder alarms. Video motion sensing is different and uses a software program to look for a set number of pixels to change. The number of changing pixels is your sensitivity setting. However.... video motion detection can be very unreliable and is very hard to set up without loads of false triggers. For example a fly or moth flying past close to the camera lense would look like a huge amount of movement. Water, rain and mist will continuously trigger recording so its useless for your application. Video detection is only useful in a place where nothing at all moves. This is why trail cammeras nearly always use a PIR detector and as you know yourself in outdoor area's even they can be oversensitive or undersensitive. Hope that helps explain why your trail cammeras often miss the beavers. It may also help to know that PIR sensors are far more sensitive to motion passing accross them and far less sensitive to objects coming at them face on. Those cammeras could easily be modified so the PIR part is sepperate from the main unit. That would be way more effective. If you want to message me and arrange it I would be happy to make the modification to one for you. Keep up the great work and exelent content 👍

Thank you. I did not realized that the temperature be in the same would cause it to not work. I just thought there wasn't enough movement that's why the camera I had just time lapsing instead which is probably better if they ever do show up. Thanks for watching

That's pretty cool to know. A friend has 20 acres of land in the foothills that he takes a camper to on the weekends. He hates that his trail cam is always picking up the leaves moving, but on rare occasions he has actually had it pick up a bear passing through. I could watch time lapse videos of nature any day. It's fascinating watching the earth move and change right in front of us.

@@post.10 Your more than welcome. You can get very low power microwave motion detectors that would be ideal for your needs. They are as cheap as $3 in many online electronics stores. The difficulty is connecting them to trigger the trail cam. This has to be done at a circuitry level. Feel free to message me if you fancy modifying one. I'm sure you can use a soldering iron OK, it only needs the circuit reverse engineering so you know the pins to solder to.

Well through his education he's got a ton of people out there that are now out keeping the drains clean every time it rains so our streets are not flooding all over the United States. Maybe one day somebody will pay him to come educate the d o t all over the United States on how to clean the culverts and properly remove beaver dams without destroying them with the excavators

LOVE the two view cameras. And thank you for what you do. I grew up with an unburied culvert dumping water into a creek in my backyard. Many of us as children enjoyed hanging out and watching the torrent after storms, especially bad ones. Both we and our parents were too dumb to realize how dangerous this was with the torrent that was created. We often played in the pipe when there wasn’t much water in it. And we always were digging stuff out because that was our fort. Little did I know decades later I’d be engrossed watching someone else enjoying his work in such a manner.

Hi Post 10. Watching yet again. Like the beaver / culvert unclogs, but my favourite has to be street drain unclogs. A few suggestions if I may. Carry your own metal beaverproof spike to position your cameras. When out on the streets using your rake, sharpen the end of the handle just enough to push or scrape the drain grates. Lastly, could you park your vehicle where you are working so as not to get drenched? None of us want you to get hit or seriously ill from getting drenched all the time. Just being a mum in Australia.
