Of the more than 25 million people in the U.S. living with asthma, about 5-10% suffer from severe asthma. It’s important to work with your healthcare provider to discuss medication use, inhalation techniques and avoiding asthma triggers to assess your asthma control. Learn more about symptoms and access resources for you and your healthcare provider by visiting Lung.org/severe-asthma.

I ended up in the hospital with a severe attack the other night rescue inhaler wasn't helping and I just kept coughing and coughing up mucus, chest got tight and felt like my bronchial tubes were on fire I was wheezing louder than I regularly talk. It took 2 breathing treatments and iv delivered steroids to get my lungs back to normal function. I'm going to see my family doctor this weekend to get this under control I've been using my rescue inhaler way too often asthma symptoms keep waking me up in the night and I can't do my job which is very physical in long bursts without needing a puff off my inhaler. I've had enough I can't keep living like this the severe attack I had the other night I thought was gonna take me out of this world. The ER immediately put me on oxygen and got me to a room which is wild because the waiting room was full I'm grateful for that though. Not excited to see the bill but it's what I needed to finally get this is check and to stop suffering daily when I know there are better easier days of just having the normal body function of breathing in the future.

Severe asthma the flare ups don't go away. They are there pretty much all the time, even with meds.

The worst part I think is the constant coughing. But people say. That steroid. Inhaler may help I do have a rescue inhaler that is albuertol, a wexela inhaler and a nebulizer but they don't always help. Coughing so hard you puke is the worst😢

Yeah. It doesn't help everyone. I already tried so many methods, but none of them cured it completely. I didn't get an asthma attack for literally years, but suddenly, since the last 2 years, it got back. Some people like me basically can just avoid, but not cure. Some people have it in their childhood and then never get them back, other can almost get years before they get it again. Specially if its the allergic type. But im happy it works for so many people and i wish it would work for everyone

K.P. Buteyko once said that: To test the validity of the scientific discovery made by us almost 30 years ago, it takes 30 seconds of time: offer an asthmatic hyperventilation - he will have a suffocation attack, offer to reduce breathing - will relieve the attack. The cause of the asthma attack is hyperventilation of the lungs, no one said this before our scientific research. And so I have been asking scientists for 30 years to spend 30 seconds to check this (1986).
