A LOT of work went into this one and I think it's perfectly demonstrates what's possible within this hobby. I finally began doing a serious remodel of the animal room that I've had planned for two years. Major changes happened in this one and I uncovered a lot of interesting stories with the animals.

I’ve been planning and working toward this one for some time, and it’s so exciting to see things get started. I put a lot of work into this video, so I hope you all enjoyed it. I can’t wait to share what’s next for this space and other projects I just made room for. Have a great weekend SerpaSquad!

was just wondering if you have any plans for a long, narrow and high tank? Like a rockwall, with some small fauna making the best of the 1 dimension limited space.

Hey Tanner, This shelving looks soooooo much better. The uniformity is not only more functional for you, but I think it helps to frame all the aquariums to look like one big ecosystem, even though they are all separate systems. It kind of looks like you have cut cubes out of a certain water environment in different ways. Having all the filters directly on the floor is much easier to deal with, especially when you have water spilling when doing filter maintenance, which on its own is a huge improvement. Plus you don't have any worries about getting the wood on any of the shelves wet and possibly weakening the joints in the shelving structure. Best of all if you have water come out of the filters, its on the floor and is much easier to clean up. LOOKS GREAT MAN! Matt - Toronto, Canada

I wish you would use all of your existing setups for more content. Like MD Fish Fanks does it. It would be nice to get to know the animals, the setups and just follow along on your journey. I think the way you only invite us in when you create something new is getting perhaps a little repetitive? I vote for you to do some more follow-ups, maybe some maintenance videos, some more low fidelity stuff. 👍

I know you've probably answered this a million times and I just missed it, but some questions I've had watching these over the years: 1. What is your daily/weekly upkeep on this many setups and how much have you been able to automate? 2. If someone is going to start getting into more complex setups, what are the 3-5 mistakes or issues that are easy to avoid and easier to make? Love your stuff. Amazing setup. Keep it up!
@89Johneboy

@@89Johneboy I've never seen a video where he discusses how much of his new basement setup he has automated and how much time it takes to maintain all of it. And since be has just recently made this many setups, it would be impossible for him to have answered it in the past. Also, he's provided countless tips and tricks to help people getting deeper into the hobby. Far more than the handful I'm asking that would be at the top, especially in regards to the mistakes that are easy to avoid and easy to make. If I'm mistaken and it's that obvious based on the content, try answering instead of being condescending. Cheers.

Your views on pet care . I hope you understand that you are teaching old and new generations what the standard to strive for is. This shows the respect and love for the lives you have accepted into your care. So much respect, so many of us people have for you. You make people want to learn and be better caregivers to our plants and animals. Thank you from an old lady, for doing more than your share to improve all types of living things lives. And giving people options that improve their own lives by having something to take pride in doing well. And a reason to keep doing it on those bad days we all have. Reasons for living can be big or small. But each is a step foward. You impact lives with every video. 😊

Hey Serpa! I have a dream to one day turn a room, much like your herp room, into one giant ecosystem. No glass involved. I'd use concrete to create fake stone cliffsides on the walls. I'd have a wire mesh ceiling with lights and rain simulation / speakers. The room would have an airtight door and the entire room would be an open ecosystem. Ever thought about attempting this?

I don't think anything he has needs that size of enclosure? What are you planning on keeping? With that level of vertical available, You could have draco volans! That and gliding snakes are about the only rep that comes to mind that would be comfortable in a suburban room size enclosure, as well as make use of all the horizontal and vertical space. Could safely co hab with giant moths/butterflies, gaint Isopods, mantis. This is the advice I received as a training exotic animal care adviser : "If it looks like one creature can fit the other creature in it's enclosure's head in its mouth, it will try it" I forsee a large calibration period where you fight mold and bacteria, without UV sun and regular wet and dry periods, as well as just the sheer amount of waste anything bigger that a small snake outs off, indoors it will be hard to maintain that microbiome to fend off both black and white mold, without a large fan/venting plan and a lot of UV.

other channels have tried it, channels that are about small pet care. I am subbed to many bc I am an ex animal care advisor that used the spec in small mammal; It is not impossible, but due to the fact that mammals put out proportionately wayy more waste that reptiles and insects do in the pursuit of homeostasis (regulating their own temps/nerves/metabolism ) the size of the enclosure and required clean up crew (Like, mice and hamster put off enough pee/poop that an army of isopods could not fix fast enough to prevent a URI in the resident) also rise like, insanely in response. IIRC the channel most known for a bio-active rat enclosure retired the experiment late last year, citing URI due to all the iterations and attempts to fix the system not being enough to make is feasible/viable. Just search "Bioactive rat enclosure", now there is a lot of semi-naturalistic stuff you can add, I just think there is no small mammal-safe way to ""walstead method"". "SomethingAnimal" channel has in the past done really good hands off build for hamsters, but they are not bio active, and do require occasional maintenance Genea pigs poop more than 200+ times a day, and eat more than the weight or their entire entrail system in veg a day, as well as mandatory constant grass/hay eating bc their digestion lacks the muscles to move by itself, it only moves by adding more material in from the mouth, I do not think there is any low-mantience way to house them unless you have a greenhouse, then I would consult channel ginea pig paradise/ginea pig garden, who care i would cay resembles chickens. (Semi free roam, must come in at night bc predators)

I would freaking love to see a wall of your basement set aside for an ambitious collaboration with Ants Canada channel. Holy cow. The two of you building an ecosystem together would be next level. And I think each of you could benefit a lot from cross-pollinating viewers (I think anyone who loves one of you will love the other). EDIT/ADDENDUM: he lives on the other side of the planet so I know that complicates things. But also it would be cool to see you go to his place and help him build his next massive floor to ceiling enclosure, maybe tying to the two he’s already got connected to one another.
