This is the same dc-4 that crashed in alaska 2 days ago. rest in peace for the 2 crew that were on board.. 😢

It's not the same. Tail Number N3054V is the one that crashed. The DC4 in the Video is N96358 which was damaged in a runway overrun in 2020 and wasn't repaired ever since. Don't know if it will be repaired in the future or if this fatal crash was the end of the commercial usage of the DC4.

Flew in one of those from California to Japan in 1963. Something like 36 hours with stops in Hawaii and Midway.

Crave Life Actually it was awful. The seats were canvas and the lavatory was basically an outhouse. I was 13 years old at the time. We could not fly above weather, so we flew through thunder storms. I did the trip more times as a Marine , but it was in a DC-8 or 707. In the Marine Corps I worked on the DC-4 as well as C-47s as an Aircraft electrician. The Commandant of the Marine Corps had a personal DC-4 that was polished to a shine that looked like a mirror. I only saw it once in Iwakuni Japan.

In 1955 I flew in one from San Francisco to Tokyo. I believe it was California Eastern Airlines on charter to the Military

a little detail: "Berlin Airlift during World War II" probably you mean the Berlin Blockade which was 24 June 1948 - 12 May 1949. WWII ended in 1945. It was the Cold War, though. And those Raisin Bombers were very welcome!
