I chucked when you said that someone said to you “Well, you’re so lucky that you’re able to stay home”. I haven’t worked outside the home in almost 31 years. Through sacrifice and planning we’ve done just fine. It’s a matter of priorities.

There is the consideration of nutrition dense food as well. Better to buy whole foods: real chicken, real yams, real potatoes, etc. These are not only cheaper than processed but also better for you.

Supply and demand. Inflation on things like eggs doesn't bother me because I refused to pay the price of them. Don't pay $5 for a bag of chips that's half full anyway. Don't pay $9 for grapes. Don't pay $6 for eggs. Definitely don't pay $9 for 4 sausages....Demand goes down because we refuse to pay that much. Now what happens to the price...this was great Tawra bring us more👏🏾

Bless you for giving great advice to people who need to hear it! I wish with all my heart that I'd learned these things in my 20's, but really didn't until my late 40's and 50's. I'm now 70, living on social security, and it's not easy. For 10 years, my son and I lived in a house in the suburbs of Central Florida - I purchased it in 2010. Being a single mother, I had to work outside the home, but that didn't mean I had to spend like an idiot. My backyard became a "micro farm," and most my neighbors thought I was nuts. I grew pineapples in my front flower beds, had four hens in the backyard behind my privacy fence, and grew a 1000 sq ft garden. You'd be amazed at what you can grow and preserve from just 1000 sq ft!! I leaned to can, dehydrate, vacu-seal, freeze, ferment and pickle. I even make much of my own cheese from grocery store milk. I forage for wild blackberries and elderberries, and if a neighbor has fruit trees that they never pick, I ask if I can have the fruit and bring them a jar of preserves. Grocery shopping? Cooking from scratch is much less expensive, and much healthier. And for those people that tell you, "I don't have time to do that, I work full time," well, so did I! I worked for a very busy lawyer, and that's not banker's hours, either. It's a matter of prioritizing what's important to you. I paid off my credit cards, every single one, and paid off a loan I'd taken out in 2016 when my heating and A/C system died. In December of 2020, I sold that suburban 3 br 2 bath house and bought a 3 br 1 bath cottage with more land. Sadly, I still have mortgage, but it's less than what I was paying in the suburbs. Inflation is killing us, but we are blessed here, because as prices rise, we have more options. I now have a 3500 sq ft garden that provides food year 'round, and have a flock of 7 chickens that provide plenty of eggs and extra income. I preserve enough vegetables for a year at least, and either sell or give any extra to my church's food pantry. So please know that many are going to reject what you're telling them, and even laugh in your face, but there will also be many who will see that if you can do it, so can they. You are making a BIG difference in more lives than you know.

It is way to easy to grab something that looks ready to eat when you ho shopping... Most important thing is to eat before you go shopping!!! I am finding that all the extra ingredients (chemicals) in most of the 'items' at the grocery store ate making me ill. So I buy basic whole food items. Flour unbromated, natural sugar, honey, fresh/frozen veggies (no sauces - read ingredients.). Most of the fruits are best frozen, unless you can get them straight from the grower. I make my own premixes like chocolate cake, brownies, pancake mix. I use either canning jars or ZipLock bags - write the dry ingredient measurements on one side & the instructions for what wet ingredients to add and how to prepare. Much cheaper & I control the quality of ingredients. I have even cut the recipe in half so we dont uave too much extra to eat 😅 Also, make double meals. When making lasagna, it is super easy to make two - then freeze one. When making pie crust, triple the recipe and freeze two.

Just bought 80% ground beef on sale for $1.99# on sale this week..stocked up. Hot dogs were $1.00 a package if I bought 5 packages which I did buy...lots of great prices for Memorial Day!😊

I have to disagree. Big difference between sausage and hot dogs. Hot dogs are more processed. I also wouldn’t pay $9 for those sausages. I was lucky and had great polish deli near me and would purchase real sausages. Depending on the type of sausage you wanted, it would range $2 plus per pound. And yes, there’s a huge difference between grocery store and polish store sausage.

I agree. When I was younger with my first 2 children, I bought bananas and which ever fruit was on sale. I also stocked up on canned fruit. I only buy protein when it is a good sale or clearanced. Your grocery bill is all about choices. By the way, we LOVE your hamburger bun recipe. I made it when I didn’t want to go to the store for just hamburger buns. You are right - if you don't live near stores, once a month is the way to do it. I don't live in the mountains, but I live in a rural area where it takes me 30 - 40 minutes to get to a real grocery store. I go get my groceries, snacks, and everything else I need once a month. Then I only get something from Family Dollar in our village in between if I need it - like maybe bread. People generally buy the same things to eat over and over anyway so you should be able to know what staples you use. I agree about the potatoes. Baking sliced potatoes in the oven is just as satisfying. And most snacks can be made from scratch easily. Ever since I was a young homemaker if I wanted something expensive I've always asked myself how much of something else could I get...Instead of getting one box of garlic bread I could get 2 or 3 loaves of bread and use the butter and garlic powder I have at home, then have leftover bread. I still do everything this way unless I want a special treat. And...the only debt I have is taxes on my (no mortgage) house and insurance on my house and (no loan) car.

Medical reasons prevent some people from buying the cheapest’ things, I.e. bread. I also buy for health reasons. It’s much cheaper than a doctor.

As I am rewatching this video, I am baking banana bread and using mayo instead of the sour cream I usually use. I don't have sour cream. Mayo works great! This will be a treat for my husband to take to work and us for breakfast. Thanks for the video!

My local coop shop in the UK had 6 eggs - golden yolks - reduced to 20p per carton. I didn’t buy them as I didn’t need them. They had a ready made sandwich for 49p - meat included. I picked some reduced coffee for £2 reduced from £6 and got a £3 rebate back. Also some French biscuits (cookies) reduced to 94p and good until the end of the year.

I wish there was a way to explain to people so they can grasp how worth it your cookbooks are. All the recipes are so simple and quick to make. I have made the dinner rolls 3 times this week. I made the GF Lava cake. It took about 5 minutes to put together and was amazing. It cost penniies on the dollar compared to buying a cake. I got the first cookbook and the GF/DF and my husband saw your show and scolded me for not getting volume 2. lol. Keep up the great work, you're awesome. Love your shirt. God bless.

Just a note but most potato chips are gluten free if they are unflavored. It’s an added label to charge more 😊

All of these items were easy to prepare. Cook in oven or air fryer, no work or prep involved. Americans have gotten lazy and they just don’t want to take the time to prep and plan to save money. Most don’t even know how to cook or are intimidated by it.

Here in Central Pa we have a bunch of Amish n Mennonite grocery outlets! That's where I shop all the time!! When I did a recent walkthrough through a normal grocery store I almost fainted at the high prices!!

I agree with everything but the margarine. I grew up on it, but will not eat it now. However, I buy my stick butter at Aldi's when it is on sale (usually at holiday times) and freeze it for later use. I hardly ever pay full price. We have cut out snacks for the most part.

So I making one meal of spaghetti Box noodles .97 cents ,one can of Great Value Tomato & Basil Pasta Sauce for $1.97 half of 1 lb roll Extra Lean Ground Turkey 2.97 I using $1.48 and some garlic toast had from last time in deep freeze Jello with diced apples second meal is other half Extra Lean Ground Turkey $1.48 some frozen peas and carrots mixed $2.27 using about .75 cents with a mushroom soup .97 cents other half spaghetti noodles baked in the oven with homemade bread crumbs topping and a banana diced with jello. Then left over for the third meal That’s 3 days of dinner for $12.33 for 4 people and that’s in the second highest city in Canada

Something you haven't touched on is the excess use of "cream of" soups, cream cheese, sour cream and shredded cheddar in the recipes the last few years. I use some of these things sometimes, but not every week or in excess. Stuffed zucchini boats, twice baked potatoes, stuffed shells, or in some hot dips. I do live under the poverty level, as your family has for a long time. The poverty level for 1 elderly person in 2022 was $17,667, In 2023 I am living on $15,600 for the whole year. My rent is almost 1/2 of that amount, and then there are tithes, utilities, gas, insurance, etc., with food being the last thing on my list (or whatever is left over). I allow 2 bags of chips (from Aldi), and 1 half gallon of really good ice cream a month. I had not thought of butter and salt on rice chex, but I might go there. Sounds interesting.

Unless your child has sensory issues or a medical condition, they should be eating a wide variety of foods. This allows you to buy what’s on sale without them complaining. I only buy what’s on sale and in season.

my mom used to buy a lot on sale but aldis had good canned veggies and some minnesota brand corn it was sweet and she had a man that loved to eat always hungry and she tryed to make a lot but the more she made the more he ateand her soups were so good eveything was good

We have a Grocery Outlet about 30 minutes from us when I look at the circular oftentimes it's worth the trip. Right now those aidells sausages are 3.99 a package. I plan to go and stock up on that and other things. They also have good deals on household products and right now I am going to check out a kiddie pool they have on sale for my grandson😊

I am not posting in judgement with my comment, for context, I read a post online that came from a local parent asking for food because they were waiting to be paid in several weeks. Several people offered them food and some asked what they could eat. This person responded that they could eat, "meat, boxed cereal and lunch meat", (!!!), because "their kids were out of school". I had a moment. There are many people out there complaining that they have no food that would respond in anger if anyone tried to suggest ways they could afford to eat more. They think their excuses are reasons where that simply isn't the case.

The sausages you bought often go on sale for 4.99 I know because I can afford and my husband loves them.

I just got eggs 97 cents a carton at Albertsons. In fact with their app I saved 40 percent on all my groceries. I only bought what was on sale.

I've seen many, many videos talking about buying meats on sale and stocking up / freezing, and yes, this is wise. What I don't ever hear is the same thing can be done for many fresh veggies on sale.

My daughter keeps all these "snack" items in her cupboards so that her children can pack their own school lunches everyday. She is so busy she doesn't have any spare time to divide up big packages. She doesn't even have time to grocery shop anymore so gets everything delivered from Walmart.

I know you are not crazy on cosco but I bought a cooked chicken rather than going out for supper hubby was home threw on some potatoes that was meal number one next night i had the same with some left over potatoes and hubby had some left over rice from another clean out the fridge day then day three we both had left over chicken remaining potatoes and a box of stove top that i got on sale for 99 cents and some cranberry sauce for 99 cents today for lunch I had some left over french bread sliced it up and used the rest of the chicken for two full sized sandwiched and mao so a lot of meals with a 7.99 cooked chicken

I live in a small mountain town in Northern California and I can buy a whole lot more for 50 dollars . I’m also dairy intolerant. 2 hours to a bigger community. Never would I buy a salad kit on the potato chips. But I cook from scratch a lot. So much cheaper and healthier. Just bought hot dogs for 1.99 and got a second one free for the freezer. Crazy what people buy.

While I somewhat agree with the "you are not shopping correctly" phrase I must add to it.....People are LAZY! When we first married nearly 37 years ago we had almost nothing. Then a job loss meant less than nothing. I worked hard at not only a job but at growing my income and honing my skills on all things including shopping. Now we own two homes(for 19 years) and are much more "comfortable". Having said that the skills I learned I still use. In other words.....I AM NOT LAZY:)

i wish you could do a canadian version of this....a lot of your points you make does save money on groceries, but man, i wish i could buy the groceries at the prices you guys have!! this week at the cheaper grocery store our chicken drumsticks are ON SALE for $2.99 lb.....the cheapest bread is 2/$5.50.....a 1 kg of peanut butter is on sale for $5.77.....regular old plain hot dogs are not on sale and are $4 for the store brand ones for a 12 pack.....carrots and frozen broccoli are also not on sale this week and cost $3.49 for a 2lb bag of carrots and $4,99 for store brand bag of frozen broccoli....it's amazing how different the prices are....way more here than just the US to CAD exchange on price.....i have changed some things and have been saving some money on my groceries thanks to your videos, but there's no way i could get 4 meals even for a family of 4 out of $15 here....makes me wanna cry sometimes, and i have a family of 7 still at home so the grocery receipt really hurts!! even the fresh veggies and fruit are outrageous....a 3 lb bag of most varieties of apples are $7,99 -9.99 and bananas (not organic...nothing i'm posting about is organic) are $0.99 lb.....grapes are usually around $5 a lb if i remember correctly....we do not eat a lot of grapes....i'm not complaining about having to buy the groceries, as i do have other issues financially that i know i need to eliminate and am working on, but geesh....i wish i lived closer to the border and could shop in the US!

I so agree with you! If fresh veggies are high I go to the frozen and pick up the off brand. Meat I buy what is on sale. It is so rare that I buy something not on sale! If it is on sale and still to high for me… Go for a cheaper meat and trust me you will live! Lol! Maybe I am classed as a cheap scape, but I do not care what people think! Here in Germany I can get the vacuum packed Gnocchi ( store own brand) for 99c, which I boil the Gnocchi, I add to that a tin of tomatoes, garlic and a onion, dried herbs and top it off with one ball of thinly sliced mozzarella. I then bake this in the oven for 30 minutes. A 500g pack Gnocchi will do me and my other half 4 servings and it reheats well.

I just came home from the store and thus this is a VERY extravagant grocery trip. Other than the Kiwi and Cold Brew, everything was on sale. It's more than enough food for several company worthy meals. Kiwi -- 2 lbs $4.99 Corn on the cob $1.99 Cherries--1.45 lbs $5.76 Value pack of 10 pork chops $10.00 Five small bacon wrapped steaks $25.00 Starbuck's Cold Brew $6.99 TOTAL $54.73

Grocery outlet and even Aldis has similar sausages for half or less for what she paid.

It seems there is an entire generation, or more, of people who have never had to or learned to live frugally, budget, cook from scratch, etc. It's rather scary.

June is strawberries. Mine are forming even after freezes later than normal. I go to the store and think I don't need that and that and that. Don't miss it but not a foodie either. Do people really need to eat full meals three times a day? I just do one then a banana or something like that in the morning then maybe some kind of snack from pepperoni, chocolate, cheese, etc. And Swedish fish.😂Those are addicting. Not really into surgary stuff.
