Welcome to Black Opal Direct!
We're taking the top off this opal Spring Break style.
This gorgeous Lightning Ridge nobby opal turned into an even gorgeous-er cut stone, with a little help from yours truly.
We'll cut this stunning opal and chat about what to do when you have residual black potch on the face of an opal, and how to tackle sand spots and chips in the face!
This gets about as weird as my Aunty after a few too many birthday Mimosa's. And hopefully just as entertaining.
Oh, and, by the way... no other tops were removed in the making of this video.

I have had a love of opals since I was sixteen, long story. I am really enjoying your videos, silly dancing and all. The suspense of watching the cutting and polishing process is amazing, waiting to see if that sand spot is shallow or deep, and seeing the colours come to life is truly amazing. Thanks and hi from Tasmania

I never get tired of watching you cut opal, no matter what mood your in. Every single stone you cut is always a puzzle to figure out, sometimes great, sometimes good, sometimes okay, and sometimes not so good. Always a good time and a pleasure to watch a true craftsman who loves his work.

As you danced and carried-on at the beginning of the video, I couldn't help thinking how mortified your son will be once he sees it. Of course, when I was a teenager, anything my own parents did slightly out of the ordinary mortified me, too.

That’s part of the joy of parenting, as I understand it. My parents were constantly putting on their best mountain hick accents and calling me “Maynard” in public, because they knew I would melt into a puddle of humiliation. (We’re from West Virginia, so they were mocking their own heritage. I guess that makes it...okay?)
@tkondaks

Dear Mr. Justin. Many thanks for you and your efforts to show us in your videos every time new methods of how to cut and finish opal gemstones without any more loss of weight and value. Actually I am a dentist and I wanna tell you something very important about the stage of separating the stone from the dopstick and you may geoparadize the stone intigrity. We usually use only a hot water for the separation. Just dip the stick in the hot water for 2-3 seconds and you can remove it supereasy from it. That is all. God bless you and thank you again for your astonishing videos.
