One downside of those GW cards is that they don't have numbers on the normal spells. 1 and 2 on death is Aspect of the Dreadknight and Caress. Soulblight is #3. Also, with Undead Legions, you still need to be within 12" of the general in order to march unless you're Vampiric (which Hexwraiths are not). It is clarified in an FAQ that you _can_ overrun if you wipe out a unit due to Instability. You do _not_ disrupt ranks if you are only a single rank. The rule is that the flanking/rear unit must have two or more ranks.
tommaspawn That's right. You need at least two ranks in a unit in order to cause disruption. The Saurus warriors would get their rank bonus and thus a tie combat. It's annoying when some mistakes could have been game-changing...
Guerrilla Miniature Games Ash you know I love you man but you totally robbed Steve on this one... I dont know the WHFB rules that well but I do know that the big change in 7th onwards(or just 8th) was that a single ranked unit does not disrupt... it was what made 5 man MSU riders a bit worthless (as a High Elf player I used to use Elyrians/Silver Helms/Dragon Princes in this fashion) along with bigger hordes... So yea, missing that Steve gets steadfast at that junction with the Spectral Cavalry lost him not only the game but probably took any morale he might have had. I dont think you cheated or anything (unlike various no lifers) and just had a brain fart at that point but wow, that was a huge oversight. Especially against a nice guy like Steve that didnt even want to overrun after the zombies he killed ;) For the record, I think you did a good thing not summoning. Summoning with Nagash does NOT make for a fun game when half way through the game you could have doubled your points... Steve would have a good chance to dispel due to playing a Slaan... but still... summoning Nagash sucks.
Enjoyed the video but big error with the Saurus block. You need two full ranks to disrupt ranks, and even if you're disrupted you can still be steadfast.
something that really annoyed me, you need at least 2 full ranks in order to disrupt (page 52 on the little rulebook) the whole flank would behave differently..
luske2 it's funny how when they did do something similar we all hated it, unless you like it that's fine with me. Because I personally thought it was okay.
Temple guards are immiune to psychology. Plus they have scaly skin 5+ and light armour, which give them 4+ save in combat and 3+ against shooting (shields)
So considering the rules error on the hex wraiths (and all the damage they did subsequently) does that mean Steve would have tabled a Nagash army without losing a single unit? Quite an impressive feat!
The crumble/overrun was a huge debate there for awhile in 8th, but the generally accepted notion is if you destroy the unit from crumble, not from wounds, then you can't overrun. Great Batrep guys, let's hope 9th allows for more to come!
Really enjoyed this one :) Minor issue @ 26:20 though, pretty sure than a roll of one or two is an automatic fail, regardless of your plus to cast. Unless I've missed something? Loved seeing the Lizardmen again though!
im not trying to be negative love the fantasy battles, would love to see steve play lizardmen more nicely painted and i love stegadons and bastiladon, wouldnt mind see some ripperdactyl's at some point :D
tjdwarf yeah its still successful, he rolled a 7 (6 and 1) the total needs to be 1-2 for automatic failure, so on 2 dice needs double ones. its to stop high lvl mages 1 dicing certain spells with low cast cost, such as low level fireball. (which is a 6 or 7 i believe, so nagash could roll 1 dice and almost always pass if, if not for that rule.)
TheStormfury he rolls one die which rolled a 2 for soul blight. rule as written "he cannot cast a spell where the total of the natural dice scores is less than 3. a dice roll total of 1 or 2 is always considered to be a failure". 2
Ash, you have to be big enough to disrupt, just charging flank doesn't disrupt. If I am remembering correctly. He should have been steadfast on the saurus aswell I think. For the combat with those Hexwraiths
LOVED the rep, very entertaining! keep 'em coming, guys! Let's hope that the 9th Edition is going to give us more wonderful battle reps such as this one...
Great game and im loving your batreps, keep it up!! I did notice a few mistakes though which could have been game changing, the main one would be the Saurus and the hexwraiths, even though it was a flank charge and disruption would have occured, the saurus would still be stubborn due to the steadfast rule, which still applies even when flanked, this would have most likely saved the warriors. Temple guard have a 4+ armour save due to the 5+ scaly skin and light armour too Even though you didnt play Nagash to his full potential, it was good to see a more relaxed play of Nagash as in full potential, he is too overwhelming and unstoppable But great game guys, it was great to watch
it would be nice if you had a good look through the rule book soon Ash as the slip-ups are getting to too much being as the outcomes your mistakes usually end up handling the game to you on a silver platter especially when you're playing Steve!
Yay, no ogres or Dwarfs (I love those armies, but...sooo many of them lately)... that Ethereal Cavalry is sooooo OP... Steve... bro... I feel you pain on that final turn bro...
Why on earth were the sarus not steadfast?! A: disrupting removes rank bonus not steadfast, B: You need 2 full ranks to actually disrupt a unit (which your wraiths didn't), so actually you had 3 kills, charge and flank for 5, he had 3 ranks banner for 4, loosing by 1 and testing on steadfast. As is said on most videos please read your rulebooks!!!! You are on episode 51 of these fantasy reports, you really should be experts at this by now.
@8:40 The light spells hit d6 more gainst undead... If you cast light spell against Nagash's army you are supposed to know this...:( @ 27:27 you are not disrupted if the chargers are at least two ranks of 5 ... Very, very, very bad play! There are very major rule mistakes. The batreps are very good looking but it is very annoying to watch this number of major mistakes.
As of the undead legions the army doesn't crumble with death of the hirophont/general. I know it didn't matter in this case but i thought it mention it for future games!
Doesn't anyone use an undying vampire counts army list? Cuz I've set mine up (just a 1,500pts army for now) with 2 vamps and a necromancer and I'm CONSTANTLY raising zombies and replenishing skeletons, dire wolves and fell bats left right and centre. What's the point of vampire counts if you don't use that mechanic?
Great bat rep as always. Just a small gripe. I prefer it when you use 16mm dice as they are easier to see. Plus green on green is hard to see. Nothing big, it is just nice to see the rolls. Most bat reps skip them.
If someone could anwser this question. if the skinks marched and werent at short range using blowpipes wouldnt they be rolling at 7's? 6's then 4's, therefore losing they're poison.... isn't this right?
Hey Ash, great time watching these vids. I always wanted to play but never had the people to do so. I have been following Warhammer for years, played some of the video games, excited for the Total war series. I don't know if you have done this, but would you consider a beginner battle? also I would love to see some civil wars happening here. I know that the counts and Skaven and Orcs have mass amounts of infighting. Any chance for some epic civil war battles?
Trying to decide on lizardman or Vampire counts/undead for my next army for Warhammer. Such a hard choice :p i love the dinosaur themed lizardman, but you cant go past skeletons and necromancers!! hard choices.
Can we get a Grey knights vs Daemon(Khornate Daemonkin when it comes out) batrep sometime? Almost never see grey knights fight their preferred enemy on the internet.
13:00 did Ash just go in child mode for a few seconds there...? O_o I don't know if something was wrong, but Ash just seemed very rude at times here. He usually doesn't do that.
Astroice The arguement I've heard that convinced me is that they 'come prepared', so the reason they can poison war machines is they have acid rather than poison to erode the ropes etc. They bring what they need to kill whatever they're fighting.
Daniel Ellingham Surely you don´t mean you no longer find it ridiculous because of their vague apology for a rule that makes absolutely no sense? Using acid-coated blowdarts to destroy cannons, or for that matter any other artillery, is not fantasy, it´s poor rules writing.
Angry Pirate Someone had their cannon poisoned to death lmao. I wouldn't say it's poor rules writing. I think poison works within the rules just fine. I was simply talking fluffwise why it can happen. The very idea that people who are supposedly preparing a cannon for firing have time to hide behind (or inside?) it every time missile fire comes their way is pretty spurious anyway.
Daniel Ellingham I am the lizardmen player doing the poisoning ;) Which is why it pisses me off, it is explicitly stated in the fluff that they use the poison of frogs and snakes in the jungle. Although a fair statement about people not being able to hide behind a cannon, that would also go for bows and arrows, which should by your logic be able to annihilate cannon crews within range. An armour save would have made far more sense. As for your opinion on it being ok rules wise i disagree, while it is in no way game breaking, it IS immersion and lore breaking, both of which are large parts of warhammer. Same problem in 40k where my robots get poisoned (wut).
SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS It's also worth pointing out that I'm pretty sure one of the Undead Legion special rules is that they don't crumble when their general dies. So yeah, you lost half your army points wise, but by no means was a forfeit necessary.
On the ruling of Pred.Fighter: Poison (special rule) counts for supporting attacks, ASF (special rule) works for sup.att., Hatred (special rule) works for sup.att.: Predatory Fighter works for supporting attacks! (and plays much faster) Keep up the great work (and do the disruption correct please) THX MWG
Poison, ASF, and Hatred don't make extra Attacks though, Predatory Fighter does. Predatory fighter doesn't make Attacks in the second rank for the same reason Frenzy doesn't - you only get 1 supporting attack (unless Montrous.)
thezoned101 this is true but it states in the main rule book on page 11 "on rare occasions a conflict will arise between a rule in the rulebook, and one printed in a warhammer armies book, where this occurs, the rule printed in the warhammers armies book always takes precedence" therefore predatory fighter will work for supporting attacks
There is no conflict. A conflict is when rules contradict each other. Supporting Attacks clearly says cannot be increased by special rules. Is Predatory Fighter a special rule? Yes, therefore you cannot gain bonus supporting attacks.
It blatantly is a conflict because predatory fighter says a model with this rule and not models with this rule in the front rank. Models in the supporting ranks don't stop being models with the rule because they are behind others
I normally hate big scary units because they kind of ruin the game but Nagash is exactly what he should be! he's scary for sure and if you use him right he's a force to be reckoned with, but he's not so over powering that he can just take the battle with no problems, he has his weak spots and when you tag them he goes down hard! I love his model and the whole undead army looks FANTASTIC! that being said I hate the undead and go Lizzys LOL !! and can you blame the Saurus for running away ? those Hexwraiths are freaking scary! LOL
Always nice to see Lizardmen games, but i don't think i will ever understand the point of Warhammer's flee system, it is not much fun to watch a unit be destroyed instantly because it flees.
It's great to see WHFB videos with great looking armies, but you guys need to bone up on the rules. You botched a lot of very basic ones. I will say though that your videos are improving, keep the content coming!
By the way - at 32:20 where you shoot with Stegadon blowpipes it is on 5s because they don't get -1 for multiple shots.) And you overlooked roll of 2 (witch should have been failed cast) with Nagash (even though he is lvl5) while castin Sulblight at around 26 minutes. Nice battle!
nice battle report but you made some mistakes, the terrorgeist won the first round of combat against the temple guard, you need at least 2 full ranks to disrupt a enemi unit and i think the Undead leagions dosen´t crumble when the general die
Bad undead plays in terms of magic id say... that Nagash did nothing.. just go all out and try to summon the shit out of him every round. Miscasts dont realy hurt him.
That's only Khaine magic, something that was not a permanent addition to the core rules such as the 50% lords and heroes allowance was. It's a bit confusing with all the stuff that's been happening :P
What is the point of deploying Nagash that is a fucking sink point, and leave half of your army away not covering him, you did nothing with the wraiths or the ghouls.
I like these batreps, they're fun, but the rules knowledge just doesn't seem to be getting any better! It's not like you don't get enough feedback fro RU-vid!
