Using stencils to mask under glaze and slip painting. Layering under glaze washes. Stencil removing through four layers of slip. A studio garden tour for May.
Wow! Vaughan you have a wonderful set-up with your home, green house, gallery, and awesome studio! Many thanks for your videos and opening up about your life as potter! 👍🏼👍🏼
Wow, wow and wow!!!!! You live in such a beautiful part of the world. Absolutely divine, how lucky are. No wonder you have such awesome inspiration for your pottery. Happy potting
I have always loved pottery and I’m just learning how to use the wheel. Your videos have helped me tremendously, but even if I had no interest in pottery at all, I would still watch you! So relaxing in such a beautiful place..I feel transported to a more peaceful..thank you!🌺💖
Your beautiful Randy’s Red mug arrived safely in Cornwall today. I couldn’t be more pleased. I smile every time I look over at it. Big thank you Vaughan
I'm given to binge watching. I recently watched a video Jackie shared and I commented that I appreciated her straight forward presentation of her technique. No mindless chatter or filler...like Joe Friday, just the facts. You, Vaughan , are every much as appreciated. You talk as you go, never vapid...always informative. Your approach to your art is just as engrossing. You have been an inspiration as well as a wealth of knowledge and technique.
This was like visiting a friend where they show you around their garden and take you in to see what they are working on. I loved visiting my brother-in-law and his wife. They would show the projects completed and houses he remodeled or built. Your garden is all so beautiful, all the different areas you have and your greenhouse. What a view you have. Love to see how you do your stenciling. You put so much detail in your work and have such a creative flair! Thank you again!
Another wonderful video Vaughan. Your pottery and gardening are both inspirations! In addition to a "fish" demo video please consider adding one on your bird houses and feeders. Have a wonderful week! Thanks again from Ann Arbor.
Thank you Katie. I mostly do this technique on commission basis only, I grew away from it. 26c degrees today, too hot for us, the basil plants are loving it.
The garden is so nice and ofcourse your potterie as well. What a great combination those two. The lamp pots are so so pritty. You said it was spring but i see it can snow still. Here too, spring is every year very fickle. You ever made such a snowy scene as shown in the last picture you put up? Greetz Sheila
So glad to see you are still working!!!! What a wonderful view. I did the Atlantic Craft Trade Show in Halifax back in 2009 and discovered how lovely NS is. I would like to visit in June, rather than February, however, and do more exploring. And eat seafood.
What a beautiful view you have and enjoyed your tour - would not want to skip that! I have wanted to try the stencil technique but I think I will have to make cut outs from colored paper and arrange a screen first to become accustomed to how the layering and overlapping works in my head. Plus starting with something simple will help just to get the feel if how it all merges together. Thank you for the wonderful visit. I hope.your community will be able to open soon for those who can travel to your town - it looks like such a peaceful area.
Another gorgeous pot and your painting!!! I enjoyed your garden tour too! Yes please on a Fish Tutorial! And Yes please on a video of your pottery collection! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks not only for the demo Vaughan but also for the tour of the garden. Fingers crossed the weather has turned so you can get your seedlings in the ground. My thoughts are you will possibly invite the bakery over to share some of that rhubarb you have, looks really healthy. Cheers and be well the both of you...Freddie
Thanks Freddie. I spent the last three days planting seedlings, I have to keep up with whatever critter is eating my Pea shoots. We opened the showroom again today, half a dozen sales, not the rush we feared. Our Premier has been asking us to go slowly so I guess we did. It looks like the borders will be opening at the end of July, if covid stays low. I have a really nice video on birds, coming soon to a computer near you. Stay safe.
Thank you for showing us around your beautiful landscape. How old is your home? I can't imagine living and working in such a stunning place. You're right about pottery and gardening...it just goes together. Your lamps turned out lovely! I like the way you always show your finished pieces.
Wow, this is too wonderful. Do you have a video which takes us from initial spraying and placement of stencils. I'm not sure I understand how all the different colors are applied prior to application of stencils.
Such great attention to detail. I wanted to suggest that you take a picture of the pot with the stencils on it before you put the glaze over it so you can know where things are.
Please what kind of clear glaze do you use. Also, if you don't mind, tell me again what is the mixture for the black slip for doing sgraffito ... Thanjk you.
OM4 40%, EPK 20%, silica 400 mesh 20%, fritt 3110 10%, Potash feldspar 10%. The clear glaze is too complicated to remember so email me and I will look for it.
Thanks Vaughn, being a beginner potter, I usually use pre-made underglazes and glazes and have my work fired in a community kiln where I belong as a member at Harmony Hall in Ft. Washington, MD. So maybe the instructor can help me put these recipes together. If you already have a video on making under/glazes, I will search for and learn for myself too. Did I mention, I have my very own Brent wheel😀!
@@smartypantsify The slip is 40% OM4, 20% EPK, 20% silica, 10% Fritt3110, 10% Potash Feldspar. Add mason stains 3-10% as needed. I use commercial under glazes too.
HI from Cannon Beach on the Oregon Coast! I love your videos and techniques, but would appreciate if you could turn your sound up higher. I can barely hear you with my IPad at it's highest. Thanks...keep sending videos!!
I will boost the volume on future videos. My old Ipad had poor volume and sound, the new one is way better so it sounded fine to me. When the old Ipad died I was very sad, it lasted 5 years and I thought it should have lasted at least a decade. Then when I got the IPad Pro I was so happy with the improved Microphone and speakers. Thanks for watching.
