Under Night 2 Will Change Fighting Games Forever ft. JaidlynGaming 

I'll be honest, I think UNIB 2 needs some large amount of marketing right now to get more eyes on it. Besides the time frame going along with T8, I see so little about it on social media or youtube to remind people it's coming out.

Massive Under Night fan here! I first picked up Uniclr right before the pandemic, and had to tell all of my friends about this series. They never quite got as into it as much I did, but oh well. If gameplay alone was the only metric you can judge a game by, Under Night is my uncontested Top 1. That said, I believe French Bread is about to absolutely FUMBLE this game's short-term relevance and long-term success. I hope the game comes out and becomes super popular with lobbies that are full 24/7 and a bustling community, but the cards are really stacked against UNI2, much more than they were against UNICLR. 1. Under Night is Obscure Again - Under Night's relevance in the FGC peaked with the release of BlazBlue Crosstag Battle, which introduced this world and characters to a larger audience. This was followed up soon after by UNICLR, which had alot of momentum on release. This momentum was slowly killed by the pandemic and the bad netcode. BBCTB is pretty much irrelevant at this point, so UNI has lost alot of mind-share. If you are not already aware of Under Night's existence, it's pretty unlikely that this release will even show up on your radar. 2. Little Marketing and Influencer Support - There's been like 4 trailers released for this game and a Playstation beta. French Bread is not promoting this game, and that's troublesome because it's not attached to a larger franchise(s) like Melty Blood is. There's only a handful of FGC influencers who even seem to play Under Night for any extended period of time, beyond combo trials. I think the game would get wider coverage if it wasn't for... 3. TEKKEN 8 IS RELEASING THE SAME DAY - Tekken 8 is shaping up to be the most polished, feature rich, graphically advanced fighting game made thus far. It has its own massive community of influencers, along with the wider FGC has already been talking about trying it out for months. The marketing has been aggressive and high quality. Their trailers get between 500k-3mil views, and they were coming out like every other day for a while. Any fighting game coverage that isn't explicitly dedicated to Under Night is going to be covering Tekken 8. French Bread needs to delay UNI2 until, like, March, where there's nothing to compete with. 4. Competition and Quality of Life - Not only is the UNI franchise less relevant today than it was in late 2019, but what the other games offer today is way more compelling. Its most direct competition is Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising, which has absolutely blown up due to pretty solid marketing, accessible gameplay, and a ton of features to keep casuals invested. On top of that, the netcode is pretty good and it had full crossplay at launch. Even though it's a worse fighting experience than UNI, it's a significantly more polished package. UNI 2 is releasing in 2024 with no crossplay, a 40 hour visual novel story mode, zero alternative game modes, and 12-year-old reused assets. I get that French Bread is a small team, but considering MBTL was built from the ground up, the relative lack of content in UNI 2 feels low effort, only meant to appeal to the people like me who were begging for a UNICLR rollback patch. Between Tekken 8, Street Fighter 6, Guilty Gear Strive, GBFVR, and MK1, what does UNI have to bring in new players? As far as I can tell, nothing. 5. Personally, I'm not investing in another Discord Fighter - I don't think UNI 2 will be a discord fighter for its first few months; there will be a stable, though humble, player base. But, I don't think the passage of time will be kind to UNI 2. Before the end of the year, people will be pinging the LFG channel in the discord if they want to find a game in under 5 minutes. I've spent the past few years grinding poverty fighters, but Street Fighter 6 and GBFVR opened my eyes. Being able to click "play" and getting a match in a reasonable amount of time is something I'm not looking to give up. I'm tired of begging for matches in Discord and doing combo trials to pass the time. The curse of multiplayer games is that their value is tied up in the number of people who are actually available to play with. And normally, I'd be sympathetic to Under Night's obscurity because French Bread is a small team. Nobody could have accounted for the pandemic happening immediately after UNICLR's release and delay based netcode was still the norm at the time. But this time, I think the things working against UNI2's success are the decisions made my FB directly. No marketing, no crossplay, recycled assets, insufferable chronicle mode, barebones arcade mode, and the worst release date imaginable. Obviously, I'm still buying the game and will be playing day 1, because I really enjoy the franchise. But I won't be investing in this installment like I did with UNICLR. My friends and my locals all run Tekken, and I think jumping in on that will ultimately be more rewarding experience. I truly hope UNI 2 pops off and becomes huge, and I'll gladly take back everything I've said here. But, until then, I just don't see it. Sorry for the wall of text, lol

The fact that I like UNIB and didn't even know UNIB 2 is almost here, tells you everything you need to know. It won't sell poorly because of Tekken 8, it'll sell poorly because they didn't advertise it.

I guess the big thing is all the advertisement for this game is on Twitter. No commercials no events, it's really on the low key. BUT, based on the beta it felt amazing to play with real netplay

Undernight In-Birth 2 will be just fine. The most important thing about it is that it finally got Rollback Netcode. That'll allow the game to survive the oncoming onslaught of bigger fighting games and JRPGs and not have to run the bathroom sets. I don't think it'll ever get mainstream appeal or casual appeal simply because of how small it is and how French Bread will be more occupied with updating Melty Blood. There's a reason why the new Characters in Type Lumina are all free meanwhile Undernight 2 has characters you'll have to pay for eventually. I don't hold it against French Bread it's understandable, I just glad it has Rollback Netcode.

i played a game that had like some of the same charthers alled anime battle 4.0 on lolgames i play it from time to time but theres just no online but i might try this undernight 2 thing it seems like a more polished version and funny thing is i main the guy whos #1 on the podium in anime battle 4

I bought Granblue Fantasy VR few weeks ago, I didn’t know Under Nite got a second game. Most of my friends already playing Granblue Fantasy or waiting for T8.

Dude, network mode is a dead zone. Around 30'000 in the community on discord and it takes me two hours or more sometimes to find a match? Nah man, UNI2 didn't change fighting games, it's not even cross console compatible (WTF?). That's extremely disappointing because I really wanted to play.

I dont really know anything about Uni other than what my friend who played told me. I would literally be picking up the game just for Orie if I did but I havent heard anyone really talk about it sk im on the fence. When it launches ill see how it goes for now ill probably stick with GBVS and Strive.

Under Night 2 is going to fail so hard, and trust me I love the previous games and was asking for a rollback update, but even without considering Tekken (not a fan personally) theres ks no reason to pick Under Night over Granblue right now

People be sleeping on uni They either don't know or forgotten, that this games been supported by its community to the point clr was released and even now sysceles, They don't have money like that to Drastically change the games system n mechanics, to market it themselves, plus if ur coming from games like sf, GBFVR n strive most of the most likely not gonna like, it it's fine not every fighting needs to be for u, at the end of the day uni fanbase will show what's possible in this game. Either u join and improve or play something else.
