David Bowie: "'I'm too cool for this, so I can smoke when I sing." - George Michael: "Somebody should give me a microphone". Both legends are gone too soon. RIP.
Your doing all right , am I? What else does Ladymay need? It's all there for everyone to see. Nothing you need to save for anyone. Bowie was smoking and George always loved a hot mic. Both are gone too soon. Lady told nothing but truths.
My GOD! That was a rehearsal!!?? The brilliance of what they were doing made me LISTEN to the performance and actually feel what it was about. What artists! Damn...
I even liked the rehearsal better than the show! Did you see the video of the show? It's more perfect, but the part at about 2.40-2.55 where Annie switches to a different voice, dropping her jaw as low as she can to make the most of resonance-space she can possibly have and pushing the air out of her toes is so amazing and soulful.
+lindzeybee I love that moment so much. You can tell it's there that he's realizing she's _really_ going to kick ass once they do it live. I was never the biggest fan of the song but the way these two do it, especially during the live version, is really quite incredible. I think Annie Lennox adds her own charming mannerisms to it in a way that really makes it shine. Bowie's reaction was how you could tell that he knew talent when he heard it.
Easy to have forgotten just how dynamic a voice is ANNIE LENNOX! WOW! When she came in so strong it was like a physical punch in the gut. And then all the ANNIE songs came rushing in in the background as the video played on. Thanks David, Queen and Annie Lennox...
It took until 2:50 before Brian May and David decided that Annie could manage Freddie's part. Just a smile and a nod said it all... For all of the people who have commented about Freddie's version with Bowie being so much better, of course it was. It was the original. But Freddie was dead, and this was a tribute to him - not a competition. Annie Lennox has a fantastic voice, and her version of Freddie's part did not lack in power, range or emotion. And she handled the scrutiny with grace. How could Freddie have felt anything but honoured by the attempt?
I think David realises slightly earlier from their shared look that Annie is about take off but yeah love that smile from Brian - "Yeah it's going to be all right - and more than all right"
This video is wonderful for several reasons. Because of the way David Bowie enjoys interpreting the song, because of the seriousness Annie Lennox puts into it, knowing that it is not an easy thing to do, because of George's passion and gratitude towards monsters of music and, finally, because of the great humility of John, Roger and Brian. So much melancholy in their eyes. love them.
Do you know I cut my hair died it bright auburn and wanted to be like Annie Lennox..who's that girl mode..a taxi driver thought I was going for the Rick Astley look....😮
Annie Lennox..Scottish chanteuse meets everyone's pop icon..singing Freddie..what's not to like.. David Bowie ..greatest musical influence in my life..no Sorrow..xx
Watching the late genius Bowie rehearsing with the genius Lennox, and being accompanied by the geniuses, Brain May, John Deacon and Taylor's drums, and being watched and being appreciated by the late George Michael....it all gave me chills. Just superb.
Ah, so that WAS George Michael in the shades! Right after the camera left that shot, I thought, "That guy really reminds me of him [G.M.], " but I didn't rewind to check. Kewl. Thanks for the confirmation. Check out the sheer joy in Brian May's eyes at 00:02:51.
are you Sirius? did you see the video of George Michael rehearsal with Queen? these 2 people are awful in every aspect, the literal opposite of the words like Singer, Talented, Frontman, or by any means ARTIST
this has my vote for the best duet in my lifetime to date..Annie restraining her voice to allow the maestro of her and my life to cut through me like a knife..wonderful performance by both artists..xx
You can be cool but can never be as cool as David Bowie holding a cigarette while singing so effortlessly. RIP Freddie Mercury, David Bowie and George Michael.
I do agree with you. I saw him slink onstage in '83 ( from backstage left ) while his band was playing " Star ". He was cooler than anyone , anyone , could imagine. Still gutted by his loss. ❤
@@arribaficationwineho32 Don't give up. New talent is always waiting to be discovered by YOU. Buy music magazines with samplers, or talk to friends, and , talk to music store staff. Enjoy.
@@jameshafner1442 agree but I hate what auto tune and computers have done to music. I loved my era of 60s and 70s music because of the innovation to get sounds that they now press buttons to achieve. If people think they are insulting me by saying “okay boomer”, they are NOT. Badge of honor for growing up with real music. But I get your point and agree. Talent is still out there, I must look a little harder.
Just look at the calibre of artists the UK had 25 years ago. David Bowie and Annie Lennox rehearsing a tribute to Freddie Mercury with George Michael singing along in the background. Goodness me. And look at what we have now? RIP Freddie, David and George. Talents without boundaries.
Well Said. The tragedy is that the UK has worldwide artists that sell millions like Ed Sheeran, Adele, One Direction, Coldplay etc, but artistically they are nothing compared to the talents seen in this video.
Ricky Larchston definitely, those who you have mentioned are talented in their own way (bar One Direction who are manufactured). But as you say the artistry, charisma and ability to impact upon pop culture just isn't there anymore. Adele perhaps has captured the imagination the most and I am a fan of hers but she lacks musicianship. She has an excellent voice and is a talented songwriter but she can't play any instruments, heck even Aretha can play the piano and did on some of her albums. Ed Sheeran's voice isn't anything special although he is a talented musician, same for Coldplay. We just don't have "the whole package" type of artists anymore like a Freddie, David or George. Such a shame.
Just incredable. That song always tears me up. Teared up a little more when I seen George. He was an incredible performer as well. Thanks for sharing this awesome GEM!!!!!!! Loved every second.
I'm told he IS Still here and does not desire to Ever leave but is waiting as he himself said for the day when I Will Be KING and WE Will BE Heroes JUST For One DAY? I'm serious here as David Bowie I am told, did openly Worship and believe in an Elite Race of which he was A devout DECIPLE that would replace humanity and Indeed Rule the world? if you study his music and LYRICS of songs and realize that he did not see himself or world like me and that he did envision a better world populated by beings like him Only or if you decide to become like his kind you May be Welcome I am not sure as this is I am told ALL part of the Secret OCCULT Religion that Most if not All in Hollywood and music Industry serve for What they believe to be Supernatural Power and Indeed Real Power in the sense that I make an IDOL or God of them rightly or Wrongly and that is my Right to do So? I am told Bowie did believe and indicates this in VIDIOS and some interviews that he did follow or have unusual Beliefs which is why his music also somewhat Unusual and Magical? I listen very closely Now to every word to try to fathom All this out. As David Bowie is a mystery?
Absolutely love this tribute and seeing George singing in the background. Annie smashed it and lovely to see David and Brian give her that look of approval when she sang that last verse. I wonder if we’ll ever see talent like Freddie, David and George again.
How amazing, two musical legends singing together, legendary musicians backing them up and fellow legends watching on. You don't get any better than that ♥️
the chemistry here is just amazing. as they both respect and admire the other. that makes this duett a pop wonder. even in this rehearsal. and the concert performance is one of the best in pop history.
Just in the mood to watch this rehearsal... and I'd half-forgotten George was mouthing along. :'( Please Annie, PLEASE look after yourself! We can't lose ANOTHER one!
Loved everything about this. Annie working her arse off, David being so laid back, George singing/miming along in the background, the smiles at the end. And this was just the rehearsal.
Legends all - but this brings home how hard this song is to sing and how remarkable Freddie Mercury's range and power were, since he made it seem effortless.
I love how David brings out the best in everyone.... Annie is an amazing singer but she was the only one under pressure here, David seemed to be so relaxed, n smiling as he watched a fan pay the ultimate tribute.
Beautiful George singing along to this with what looks like the weight of the world on his shoulders. I'm guessing the lyrics to this were poignant to him at that time, knowing what we know now. Would have loved to jump in there and put my arms around him.
these is a masterpiece???? they just screaming making awful sound did you see the rehearsal session of George Michael with Queen? that's singing, beautiful voice full of passion that touches people's hearts and if you disagree you must be dead inside because you don't have a heart and also ears
Apart from their limitless talent, Queen, David Bowie, Annie Lennox and a lot of the big stars of the 70s, 80s and early 90s had a kind of presence and attitude that made them great. Stars of today need a PR agency and media to come close, but no matter what, the respect these stars have will never and can never be artificially be reproduced.
George could sing ANYTHING and make it sound better than the original. Awesome talent, beautiful voice & looks !Miss him forever. Bowie & Queen not too shabby either !
My favourite part in this vid. He wasn't even going for it or trying to get the spotlight on him either, he was just casually stood singing along. Shows how much that concert meant to him.
I have watched this video so many times the last hour. George Michael in the back ground is just the icing on the cake. Thank you Annie for being the Goddess you are you. I miss you Freddie, George, and David.
