It is also very cool because for deaf audience members, it is the only way they could really be able to watch him perform since their focus has to be on Amber (the interpreter, who is actually quite famous now for this) to follow what is going on. For most shows the deaf members have to choose whether to watch the singer or actually see the lyrics.
Amber Galloway is AWESOME. I had her as a teacher when I was studying to be an ASL interpretter. She also rocked out with snoop dogg and did an ASL rap battle with wiz khalifa on Jimmy Kimmel
I love that you can see how fascinated he is with the language, and he's performing but also just taking time to admire her interpreting. She is killing it too!
The disability act of 1960s say now all concert venues must have an interpreter to be there to preform. Amber is very respected in the deaf community it is amazing. Everyone love how she rocks out to the music to
I wonder, I didn't know. I was just looking for another song with a sign language translation (American or British) and here I come across this my favorite song with a translation! I just want to learn sign language (and yes, immediately in a foreign language, although my English level is not very good). I would also like to translate everything into sign language. And yes, I would like to see the translator here more in the frame, because it's interesting.
She definitely deserves more recognition than what she's getting. Even Anthony was taken aback with the intensity she portrays. Its the true soul of the music in her expression (probably more than what a colourful band like RHCP could express). Way to go Amber!!!
That was outstanding! I'm in tears, because I love when interpreters get to show the world that the Deaf community can feel and love music like anyone else. The lead singer and cameras were all very respectful of her space too. I've always hoped for interpreters to get the proper lighting and camera coverage, like pic in a pic-PIP, so the Deaf can be included. Interpreters aren't left standing in the dark trying to sign. Major salute to @kremund for posting! And Amber! OMG! Rockin'!
At the beginning, she wasn't very well lit. But after they noticed Anthony noticing HER, they started to light her better. I wish it hadn't taken that much to get her out of the dark, because she definitely has an important ad helpful job. But once Anthony joined her and started interacting/singing with her, things got MUCH better. And that made everything SO much better. Granted, I only know a couple of words and letters in ASL. But...especially with music interpreters, I LOVE watching them do what they do. So much feeling (often more than the singer, to get the emotions of the song across), SO much passion for the service that they are providing. I will ALWAYS enjoy videos like this. Even if it's not meant specifically for me, it's meant specifically for those who will enjoy it more than I ever will But dang it, just knowing that it's aimed at people other than me, while still something that I can enjoy based on the overall premise of what is going on -- that's a win-win. How nine people (as of this comment) have disliked this video, I'll never know. Were they mad that people who were a little different than them could truly enjoy the song? Were they mad that Anthony spent time with the interpreter rather than emulate the music video to the song? I'll never know. But if you disliked this video, I'm gonna assume you're a jerk (unless you can give me a non-hateful, non-abelist reason that you didn't like it; if you just don't like the song, that's fair -- even if I'll question why you clicked the vid in the first place if you hated the concept).
It's all on Anthony. You can tell by the other band members that he didn't "follow the script". The really awesome part is when you can see how they loved how he improvised and made ASL part of the show. Flea and Josh are looking at each other saying "This is fucking cool!" and Chad is smiling too. A+ performance all around.
Chills and tears. This video had changed my life. Amber is an amazing woman. I am 31 and have finally found my life calling watching this. Learning ASL and teaching is what I want to do for the rest of my life.
I've seen her do rock, rap, alt all sorts of shows. She gets to help deaf and hard of hearing people connect to the music, meet some amazing people and live her best life. She's amazing.
Honestly this made me emotional. I remember that seeing this song live was an amazing experience for me, and I am grateful the deaf can experience great music like this through awesome interpreters like her. She looks like she is having such a blast and the respect he pays her during the song is pretty rad. Hell yeah.
I thought this was beautiful. It was so emotive. Even though I'm not hoh and I don't know sign language, I feel like I experienced the song differently from watching her body language and facial expressions.
Why am I just now getting recommended this?!? This is perfect. If I went to a concert and they had an interpreter there my eyes would be on them instead of the actual performer just being honest.
She just feel the music and tried make mood and translate on the full concert. She is awesome!!! She has good mood. I like that. And all band awesome. Perfect performance 👍🔥🔥
Just saw the tedtalk she had given, and her performance of that song takes a whole new meaning knowing that she has actually went through drug abuse herself on her late teens/ early adulthood. She's really feeling the song and perhaps it's also resonating with her experiences and that is so moving
imagine a being deaf and knowing the song for years through sign language only and then having that ear technology they have that help deaf people to hear and then hearing the actual song for the first time, the melody and the lyrics and the voice of the vocalist, that would make them cry and then that would make me cry.
haha, wow. He definitely enjoyed her. And in regards to the interpretation, it was definitely not just 'interpreting words' it was an interpretation. That was cool, much like all her videos.
Ya have no idea the insecurity of being completely deaf or even remotely deaf I’m neurologically deficient with hearing so I’ve learned to read lips and make what garble of sound sound recognizable Still deaf but I literally learned to not say what and take the mumbles and figure them out I don’t feel like I’m missing out on much in life tho, I’ve learned to play drums and compose music because that’s way less complicated than speech
