@meh Didn't she say she had never been on the shop or factory floor? Of course she will have knowledge of the products etc as that is her job. It is however not the same thing that I was referring to. With regard to the owner yes I know the reason she couldn't go. I was saying I prefer the episodes with them not that this one should go.

It bothers me that someone had to be vying for that job. Like someone that's been there for years. And the company was like 'lol outside hire'. Good job purdys, can't go wrong with hiring someone that doesn't know the business. This little princess worked on a factory floor for a couple hours and was like oh no my back hurts I never knew that standing on a concrete floor and doing the same thing over and over for hours can wear on your back.

Her two problems are mutually exclusive. She's got a problem of low stock at the mall, and the factory numbers are already too aggressive for Elsa. I guess they need a new factory.

In a way, she was just right about that. She obviously had neither experience nor the aptness.

The corporate gal was pretending to be a newly hired employee. She was hiding her knowledge and abilities.

All of the members on the board of directors should go undercover as well.

Yeah the big problem in a lot of big companys is that the higher ups loose actual sight of the Work that brings the $$$ in.

That is so refreshing to hear. If only all management would do the same - it helps to keep your hand in and know the real struggles.

Jay - Absolutely AGREE. It's the CEO's fault that these companies you mentioned spiraled downwards. The people who have these degrees think that's all it takes to run a company. It's been my experience that the workers get the short-end of the stick. They forgot the lives of their employees! NO RESPECT

I met Alysha about 16 years ago. She was such a kind person and a good friend. A few months after this episode aired she got an offer for a better job, and moved to the Mission BC area. About 3 months after moving she and her husband went climbing and Alysha fell off the cliff and sadly passed away. She was truly one of a kind, RIP Alysha ❤

My brother worked at that location and ALWAYS came home from work with treats!! So yummy.

Yeah that's Purdy's issue with brand recognition. They have no identity. They actually have more of someone else's identity. lol On top of that, they're very expensive. Cadbury is actually cheaper here.

Yeah just what I was thinking. I live in Ontario, have been to Vancouver many times but I have never heard of Purdy's. I think it makes sense that they've had so much trouble taking off and with brand recognition. There's certainly a lot of room to improve in that part of things, as well as many others.

They're competing with Laura Secord chocolates as well. I'm not surprised they're having trouble in Ontario with branding when we've all grown up with LS

Purdy’s used to have a store in the Bellevue Mall in Bellevue, Washington, U.S.A. and anytime we went there we bought their chocolates. They are far above the quality of any “grocery store” chocolates, and were worth the high price even when we were newlyweds in the early to mid 1980s. I have often wished they hadn’t pulled out of sales in that mall. No chocolates I have EVER had are as good as Purdy’s Chocolates, in my opinion. You must taste them to know just how wonderful they are!!

Paul D, these are NOT generic chocolates, they are better flavor than Godiva, and in my opinion, better than Lindt, which I also really enjoy. We’ve had Lindt Chocolates our daughter purchased at the Factory in Germany. The marketing may need to change, but the chocolates are fabulous.

I'm just watching this on RU-vid 3 yrs after your comment and just had to add that I know exactly what you mean..I too was very lucky with my family..very loving parents..strict..hut loving who worked extra jobs to get enough money to take us 3 girls on holiday every yr..nothing fancy..camping with all the works but it was fun..i lost my dad in 79..he was only 56..i had just turned 18..I was I admit a daddy's girl..it devastated us all.. both my sisters were married only me at home and i remember listening to my mom crying at night..thinking I didn't hear her.. mom and I were quite similar and used to butt head s a bit.. but as I got older we became so close..I was a career woman and I was so lucky to have mom there supporting me ..always had meals on the table..washing and ironing done..yes you could say spoilt..but after she retired she wanted to keep busy .taking the dog out..visiting her sister etc..she loved it.. and she had me at age 40..so in my mid 20's it was her retirement age anyway. .in 96 I decided to go part time and take a demotion because mom had been diagnosed with alzheimer's disease. .I did that for about 18 months then got a call from the police..mom was at a local shop in her dressing gown and wanted to buy something but couldn't remember and got upset..luckily someone knew her and told police where she lived..she'd left the front door open..so she wasn't safe to be left..i looked after mom untill she passed in 2003..people say oh thats good of you or I couldn't do it..my answers were..my mom looked after me every day of my life..me doing something a bit similar is nothing like that..and the other is you don't know what you can do till you try..ok.yes it is hard ..very hard..24/7.. frustrating..sad..lonely..hard keeping mom stable..hard answering the same question 100 times without losing your cool knowing that the agression is not my mom but the disease..would I do it all again ..YES DEFINITELY . I lived in Worcester then my sister lived here in Birmingham so we decided to move her so mu sis could give me a bit of respite for a few hours..well God has his own bloody plan.. house up for sale in winter 2000.. in jan 2001 my brother in law collapses at home. .kidney failure..dead within a week. .he had been poorly but not told my sister. .anyway moved close to my sister then in 2002 my aunt dies..my sister is diagnosed with ovarian cancer. .my sister has full hysterectomy and chemo and comes and stays with mom and me whilst recuperating. .mom dies in 2003..my sisters cancer returns in 2004 and she too dies..its ying and yang..we're lucky to have been in that loving family environment but when they go you're at a loss. .if you don't get on like a friend of mine and don't give a toss you're not going to miss them..🇬🇧💞✝️🙏👍🐾🐾🐈

Amen I purchase a 2lb bag of herseys kisses for $8.99-9.99 and eat a chocolate a day so much better than a 2 oz bag of purdy's for $12 or whatever they charge.

Competition at corporate is a real thing. Can't have a top employee outshine those sitting in their corner offices.

Probably because she doesn't have the right experience on paper to qualify for a position in Corporate. Usually those are people who have a degree in business or finance or something like that. In the past rising up the ladder in a company was easier. These days they usually require a university degree for the higher position

My dream job is to be the one to help companies maximize their profit and downsize. And I believe to always begin with corporate first. But not in the way that corporate companies do it they make a lot more work than necessary. I agree start with the board and the CEO and the CFO

The dedicated factory workers, shop workers, etc. need to be attending these meetings or periodically informing why the target goal is not met. After this episode, Marketing Boss can attempt to improve work standards and supplies. If the goal isn't met, maybe it's time to lower production goals a bit, improve technology again and incrementally increase quotas so employees are not feeling like they're failing, when it's the company that is not working up to snuff. It would be interesting for the film crew to return in 3 months time to report an update in the different departments. This company should be offering post secondary scholarships to employees and dependents of employees. Purdy's needs to extend their services into the community with volunteer and charitable organizations. This action generally improves a company's reputation, especially when customers know that a portion of the proceeds go to help the homeless or children in need, etc. If a business is interested in profit over people, that value can be perceived as greedy, and the public (me) no doubt might be "put out" by selfish money grasping. Purdy's better take a closer look at how they function. They have a long ways to go in creating a caring, not feigned, image, in my opinion. I'm not trying to tell them how to run the beltline, but something does not feel right in their organization.

Well corporate boards often reflect the overall size of the company, down to their gross revenue. You can run a $200 million company with a board of four. But when it's a massive national corporation, you'll need more advisors on hand. Besides board members salaries as a whole account for a smaller cut than for the front line workforce - even if they make 10 times more per person.

Hopefully, the new opportunities will lead the ladies to receiving higher wages soon. The last woman should have been given part-time hours with the same salary for the next two years. When not working so much, she could be spending time with her sick husband which wasn't addressed. I'm sure he has some medical bills. Maybe in Canada, the health care costs are not as high as in the U S.

@@JustMe-gs9xi I spent 2 months at the HO during the peak season 2 years ago and I can say that within that very brief period of time, I learned a lot working there. True that there are shortcomings and if they do this or that - could have been better...which I would say is true for every company out there. It's unfortunate that the top operating managers of these companies don't actually see and realize how the present staff/managers deal/treat their subordinates - some of them just don't practice fairness and favor some which affect their performance reviews/reports - management favoring other staff who are not actually out performing others. Also, when a hiring manager was asked if they do "actually" give a "full" training and not just being thrown out there at the retail and suddenly will change and decline the hiring process (for a more permanent position) is disappointing. When you start working and not enough training is given and expect you to work like the more experienced staff - that's not gonna happen until they learn it as they deal with different issues. But when one was asking to have a 'real' training, it's b/c we want to be fully armored when we're asked to face the daily struggles in the retail. A person with a high level of experience in retail can say this and the goal is to help them realize the shortcomings of NOT having a proper training before they start work. Without even giving a chance to a person who has too much passion b/c of this is very frustrating and disappointing. Because a lot of this happens in the retail business these days. It's not the person trying to get the position who loses - it's the company who doesn't recognize this who lost coz I know for a fact that it's difficult to find an employee who will give their "ALL" to the company they're working for.

So before you judge and think that we over do it, we don’t. Our country’s employees needs are very different than what your country would be. Not to mention student loans. Those huge lumps of money or a new house is critical for survival here..

You mean like how the Swiss chocolatiers encouraged and probably still are, slavery in the Ivory Coast of Africa where most of the raw chocolate originated? Sumitra, I don't work there but please don't take it too harshly if someone was laughing. Sometimes language mistakes can be really funny and cute. For example, in the UK the name Phillipa is commonly shortened to Pippa. One colleague who worked internationally switched back to using her proper name after finding out what Pippa meant in Swedish ;-)
