This man had the saddest most harrowing job yet he talks with humility, dignity and sheer compassion. I’ve utter respect for the man.

No matter how old i get i will NEVER understand how adults have attraction to children...its absolutely vile evil and despicable.

My wife hanged herself, left me with 2 kids. I know what was done to her, today, I still cant process her past. A bullet or life in jail is only appropriate. Nothing less.

As someone who has suffered this disgusting abuse as a child this man is now one of my favourite humans on earth,bless his kind beautiful soul. Just to let everyone know my abuser was sentenced to 16 years in prison on the 28th September 2022 at Leeds crown court. His name is Bruce Maundrill. My friend was a psychologist in a prison with pædophiles and they're very sick individuals. When she was still an assistant psychologist and her boss was shadowing her, she came across some disgusting ones who would decide they wanted to talk about it, and they would do in detail with one asking her "what do you think of that?" and he was watching her facial reactions so he knew when to push her buttons with more sickening detail of what he had done to a child. She soon learn to keep a poker face but it was awful for her at first and she would struggle leaving it behind at the end of the day when she went home to her 3 kids. She would often throw up at the thought of it. She works with killers now.

I'm now 72, as a 13 year old I was abused daily on my way to school. Strangely he was only caught after he invited me to go to the cinema with him. I asked my parents if I could go and the next thing I knew I was down at the police station looking at photo's. I picked him out and he got 5 years. I went on to have a normal life and I have two great kids and four grandkids. So it shows you can go on, even though It's always there at the back of my mind.

When he said “the screams of a child” when talking about training yourself to see the videos and photos I nearly cried. Absolutely disgusting that there are people out there who harm children in this way. Deserve to be tortured for what they have done to those innocent kids the lot of them, wipe all the pedophiles out let them fucking burn

This is probably one of your best interviews, fascinating guest and you rather skillfully kept your presence in this video to a minimum, only speaking to prompt him and cover the main bases. Well done.

The things this man had to be exposed to but still managed to stick to his character while also maintaining no child is harmed in his presence. It’s simply unbelievable! What an absolute hero!!

This guy is a real hero, the filth this poor man had to be exposed too is difficult to hear.

How does getting caught with an ounce of coke warrant a longer prison sentence than someone with half a million pics of kids been abused?, it stinks and major questions need to be asked

I have so much respect for this man,as I child Aged 8 I was sexualy abused\buggered and an English boy's boarding school,I'm now 34,it sticks with you for Life,I still have nightmares here an there, but finally this year,only started 2 weeks ago I've started therapy,been needing it for years,but it's been too hard to talk about it in the past,,,cos I just break down,which has already happened with my therapist, but as hard as it is,I'm now doing it,and my therapist is amazing, And this man is incredible

Nothing i hate more than kid harmers

My mother in law worked in a prison and said the nonse’s wing is the creepiest place she’s ever worked. She said they swap stories and tactics 24/7. Many times she’s said they should be in single cells and never mix with each other.

What an incredible man. Just knowing that he's responsible for saving so many kids lives is beyond what I could properly convey using words.

First time i have commented on these, but this man, and the others that do jobs like this are the true heroes and role models of society. Bloke deserves a medal and as usual, great interview.

I work for my local authority in social services, I was in two minds about watching this. I have so much respect for Ian this job must have taken it’s toll on Ian, he deserves nothing but respect. Brilliant podcast James!

It never ceases to shock me that people like this share our planet...

What saddens me about Sara’s law is that I have a paedophile living 2 doors away that was found guilty in a court of law but was not given any time in prison due to the fact that he would lose his job. And ruin his life. He was found guilty of making, searching and sharing indecent images of children. Not a single day spent behind bars. I only was made aware when the local paper listed his offences. We contacted the local police who said I was in no way entitled to any more information than what was printed in the press. We only knew about this by stumbling across the article. If we hadn’t read it- we wouldn’t have known a thing. I have 2 children. His bedroom looks into our garden and we had to completely lock down our outdoor activities through fear of what he could see of our children. I even had a police officer warn us that we weren’t to display any behaviours that he would find offensive or they would arrest us!! These animals are protected way too much. Why is his life to be unaffected when he’s partaken in behaviours that have ruined so many children’s lives and those of their families??? He was even allowed to have his daughter stay with him and the girlfriend that stayed by this monster. It’s insane!!

What an amazing man! Thank goodness for people like him who go above and beyond to help these poor children. Huge respect! 👍🏼

Great point made that there are predators everywhere; and often in the very professions that are meant to protect kids - social services, educational establishments, hospitals, police etc. Look at the history of Lambeth social services or the kids homes in North Wales.. But there are also many good people too who work as hard to help kids. The never ending battle between light & dark.

This man must have a very strong mind to be able to watch and listen to the horrendous acts being committed against children takes a lot. I wouldn't be able to get that stuff out of my mind and wouldn't be able to control my temper and emotions around these monsters.

That’s a job/operation that can make a real difference. Fantastic interview.

I dealt with many paedophiles when in the police. This was back in late 80’s/90’s. The Child Protection Teams primarily dealt with cases within the family/friend circle and were reactive. I forced Senior officers to allow me to pro actively investigate paedophiles after I proved my point by making a positive arrest of two offenders who groomed and drugged victims. But even then they made me work alone. There were always many hours of lone observations and leg work that to senior officers seemed fruitless however over a 12 month period half a dozen warrants were executed. The subsequent preparation of Court files was massive but apart from a couple of occasions I was left alone to get on with it. I also was gathering evidence of a “ring” that crossed borders to North Africa and the Far East on behalf of NSY. My work came to an end when a certain Senior Officer returned to the station after his year long course at Bramshill and immediately shut me down citing not being able to afford the manpower, yes one officer! I knew it was because he was hiding other secrets, not of a child nature, but back then it would’ve probably finished his career. I later joined a CPT and dealt with some horrendous cases but the dynamics of the office and also one Sergeant didn’t like my ways because I said things as they were. To be honest jailing a handful of offenders that year was fulfilling but otherwise it was the most frustrating / depressing year of my career because of the management. Unfortunately during the 90’s the police was beginning the decline of insufficient numbers led by people who were scared of their own shadows in making difficult but correct decisions and the skill of old style detecting was disappearing.

One of the best ways to protect children is with a password. If a stranger says “your dad is in trouble and sent me to pick you up,” then they’ll know the password, otherwise run away. It removes the ability for a stranger to build trust.

You know....... I've got quite a thick skin having served in the army, watched documentaries and read cae studies that I would consider mortally and ethically disturbing. But this..... this I cannot stomach..... to the point where tbh I can't really watch all of this pod cast.... I think Murder, rape and child abuse are the three crimes that truly do demonstrate how evil a human can be!!! Pure, Pure EVIL!!! But then, in the same breath, I sit and contemplate the absolute sacrifice and heroism this covert officer has demonstrated and very quickly my faith in humanity is restored.....

Unreal I hope people understand this man is a national hero. The children are the future.

Would have loved his views on the 'grooming gangs' of Rotherham and multiple other places around England and the failures/cover ups of the politicians and police.

This man has my respect to the moon and back for the work he has done. It makes me sick to think of the children who suffers at the hands of these monsters. Here in the States these monsters do very little time compared to people who are doing life for the transportation of marijuana! Other drugs as well but how on this earth can a monster get released from prison EVER for doing what they do to children. Men like him who do this work and save children are heroes in my book!! Stepping away from own emotions must be the hardest thing in cases of kids being harmed in anyway. We quickly desensitise from ghastly sights even from a young age, but I’d struggle to keep composure acceptable to law or my own mind catching these horrors. Hope your life’s good & able to accept the sights & stories you dealt with Ian, I can imagine that split difference between your job with horrible men & time happy with your family🙏You’ve saved many kids Ian please believe in that fact mate. This was so fascinating and horrific at the same time. Being a dad to a small daughter myself I know I wouldn't be strong enough to do what this man did. I sat on a jury for a pedo case and broke down on multiple occasions.
