It's an awesome find. Looks like a command bunker to direct the gun fire, that strange room could be radar btw or aiming control, not seen anything close like it regarding search lights or small guns. It's very elaborate for a small gun so doubt its one of those but I'm guessing. Did you work out what it is yet?? And you definitely need a better camera to record underground. Yours does ok normally but wasn't much good under those conditions. Maybe a few patreons can donate towards a better camera??

WW2HistoryHunter, Pz39 is Panzerbusche 39. 7.92x94mm Patronen. German 2nd world war anti tank rifle with effective range of only 300 metres to penetrate 25mm of armour. So wish I could secretly get in touch with you and learn of its location. Like the thousands of others of course.!! Superb video. Thanks Jonathan

Hi, I think you are wrong about the markings on the ceiling. I think it is much more likely that the markings indicate the types of 88mm shells that were stored in the bunker, and not for munition for something like a Panzerbuchse 39. AZ. means Aufschlagzünder, this translates to "impact fuze". So in that place, they stored shells that detonate on impact. And I think that Zt. Z. means Zeit Zünder, which translates to "timed fuze". So a shell with a time delay before exploding, often used for anti-air purposes. As for the Pz. 39, I think that in this case it means Panzergranate 39. An armor piercing high explosive type of shell. So a shell that is capable of penetrating thick armor before exploding.

Unfortunately incorrect, but easy mistake. Remember it’s a costal defence and AA station, with captured equipment etc. But this ones easily identified as the 88mm multi role shell fuse types. Zt air burst, pz shaped charge and Az impact.
@David-kq7cw
@David-kq7cw 6 лет назад
I believe the markings indicate the shell types that were stored in that bunker. AZ. means Aufschlagzünder, which is a shell that explodes on impact. Zt. Z. most likely stands for Zeit Zünder, a timed fuze And I think that Pz. 39 in this case means Panzergranate 39, an armor piercing high explosive shell.

12:18 the abbreviations zt.z are 88mm air burst shell fuse, anti-tank and Az electric impact fuse. Most likely the fuses were stored separate from the charge.
@David-kq7cw
@David-kq7cw 6 лет назад
I don't think it would be logical to have big stacks of just the fuzes in that particular bunker. I think that in there, there were 3 stacks of 88mm Flak shells with fuze types that correspond to the ceiling markings. That way, the ammunition could be used straight away . If the charges were stored seperately from the fuzes, they could not be used immediately when needed. That doesn't make sense.

Panzer Schokolade I know it sounds illogical, but if a naval or armoured force arrived and your limited amount of shells were fused for AA, you’ll spend a lot of time unscrewing tips. No, the shell-up would be ordered and attached, in the way multi part naval charges were packed before use. More fuses would be stored than shells, especially the multi-use 88mm.
@thekingsilverado9004
@thekingsilverado9004 5 лет назад
@@David-kq7cw Those diff rooms around the corner from one another were just that to keep the fuses separated. Static electricity especially from a WOOL coat and gloves could set shit off. Most of gun crews rubber and leather vests and gloves even rubber sleeves. Most deff they store the stuff separated unless under threat and that was there was always 6-10 men to a crew to make that quick prep work short work.
@homerrunner275
@homerrunner275 6 лет назад
From what I could find the ZZ is fuses for the 88mm. AZ seems to be ammunition for the K98 Mauser. Truly amazing to see the markings still looking like new after all these years. Thanks for improving my knowledge this stuff they didn't teach in schools.

The pedestal thing at the 8 min mark looks like a mortar post. This looks like the R-633. The idea was to protect the crew from attack, mainly artillery or air bombardment, while still allowing the crew to return fire, that's why the pedestal is surrounded by a concrete bunker. in the war there would most likely have been a set of steps that would allow the crew to access the mortar. Some had armoured domes, but all had a 5cm mortar, that was normally crewed by 14.

Fantastic location ❤️ I see one of your previous commenters (4years ago) compared it to the naval gun emplacement/fortress/tunnel system on the North Heads of Auckland, here in New Zealand. Their are couple of similar structures up the headlands of Wellington. Fort Dorset and Wrights Hill. Built during the Crimean war in the late 19th century. The were used during WW2 to protect Auckland and Wellington harbour from the invasion by the Japanese, which never happened. The Kriegsmarine laid sea-mines in the shipping lanes around the top of North Island with their commerce raiders... Their stories are really interesting, if you get a chance to read about them. Kormoran, Komet and Orion were the names of the 3 German commerce raiders that operated in the Tasman Sea, South Pacific and Indian Ocean during the early years of WW2.

What a fantastic location. A great place to lose the kids and rediscover them as teenagers! I hope the location stays graffiti free. I am sure it will still be around for the kids’ grandchildren to visit in the future, it was certainly built to last. Thank you for sharing these incredible places.

This reminds me of exploring North Head here in Auckland, New Zealand. It's a very large complex of fortifications mostly built during the Crimean War and added to during the World Wars. There was a 'Russians are coming' hysteria in the late 1800s, so they spent a fortune on fortifying the entrance to the harbour, but it was a massive waste of money really because the Russians has absolutely zero capability of sending an effective invasion force way down here from Vladivostok (why would they even?). I suspect the hysteria had political motivations rather than actual security ones (use the press to make the citizens afraid and then be seen to provide the solution. Defence contractors get the jobs and the politicians get the kickbacks and votes. Win, win).

Super cool!! There has to be some artefacts about that place. Maybe a little distance away from the rocks? With all that work and the amount of men required the place must have some relics to give back to you. The enormity of the place is staggering . Many thanks for sharing .

I LOVE your videos (and your passion and excitement). Appreciating that you are wanting to keep the locations of these various finds as secret as possible, it would still be more enjoyable to show some wider shots of the settings in which you find these (i.e. a shot from within/behind a bunker looking out into the Channel, etc.). It would lend better context to the lives that were lived in these places. But thank you for your videos--some great learning going on with your efforts.
