a lot of you may have already put this together, but just in case: It's normally said that one human year is about 7 dog years. So Seventyseven dog years = 11 years "I've been working as a bank teller for like 11 years" - Cops and robbers "When I was 11 years old, I just wanted to be pretty" - Johnny johnny johnny
also calls back to Gunk "And I could never pull trig (Pull trig) Been seven years since I cried It’d take a lot for you to Break me" and set up for Northwest zombie girl "And after a month, the girl drove to her spot Near the edge of the lake at the spray-painting rock And she cried 'bout the littlest things you could think of After seven long years, she saw streaks in her makeup"
I think this is my favorite track because of how much it's tasked me with combing over the whole album, the Secretariat website, comments underscores has made in interviews, putting together the stories being told up to this point and afterwards. It got me sobbing over Uncanny long arms because I think I get what it means for Mara now, not just how it feels on the surface. If you've ever harmed someone at any scale (and had to face it) you've spent time grieving, panicking even, over the way impact works. Mara isn't there yet in this track but she's facing the constraint that demands that self reflection. Demands looking at the self in the context of another instead of looking to another in place of the self. The ignition of growing pains. Her hounds can't help her track anymore, and she has yet to respect the vulnerability and earnestness of dogs ...or that her hounds are dogs. Working on understanding the dog metaphors still
I'm very down to be missing some key info or not putting parts of the story together. Been tiptoeing into learning the intentions behind this project because in the ambiguity I've been able to guess at my own stories, project my own experiences onto the very very good sound going into my ears. To miss the point is to have more to discover. Thank you for writing these stories c:
One key note I’d like to say about this song is the description is a bit misleading. In the speedrun section for this song, April said it’s more about Sunny confronting her father, and Mara is there. I think the message can still very much apply to Mara in that this situation makes her reflect on herself, but it’s a fun addition
