People are talking about this being a trans anthem and they're right but I also want to add that this song is specifically about "belonging to a culture with a complex relationship with gender before colonialism". Underscores and henhouse! are both Filipino and as a gender nonconforming Filipino American myself I immediately understood what "people like us were among the divine" meant. Plus having Catholic relatives, hahaha.
"we don't have to talk about it" when you hang out with other trans/non-binary people and you can just be you and it's not fucking exhausting the way hanging out with cis people is, we can talk about what actually matters because we don't have to hash out gender 101 for the millionth time, we know eachother's experiences if not physically then psychically
