Understanding and Ending Violence Against Children: A Holistic Approach 

Following the recent publication of an invited target paper with reviews in the journal Peace and Conflict: The Journal of Peace Psychology, CPC faculty affiliate Dr. Mike Wessells and Dr. Kathleen Kostelny presented "Understanding and Ending Violence Against Children: A Holistic Approach” in a special webinar on Monday, July 12. Their presentation analyzed how violence against children is a significant problem of peace and used some of the main peace analytic concepts to illuminate the origins of violence against children and the likely means of preventing and ending it. It also discussed how work on ending violence against children would benefit from a holistic, multidisciplinary approach, focusing more on the interplay of episodic, structural, and cultural violence and on positive peace.
Drs. Wessells and Kostelny were joined by three special respondents: Andy Dawes, Associate Professor Emeritus in the Department of Psychology at the University of Cape Town; CPC faculty affiliate Dr. Amy Ritterbusch, Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Welfare at the University of California, Los Angeles; and Stella Ayo-Odongo, Coordinator of the African Partnership to End Violence Against Children. CPC Co-Director Mark Canavera moderated.
