Thank you, Dr Sanjay Gupta. You are indeed a wonder--so generous, wise and well informed. You've cleared so many doubts. You make most of the doctors I've come across sound so ignorant or rigid. You've quelled a lot of my anxiety and I already feel so much better. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

I am RN in U.S, your video was helpful. Even though I understand hypertension hearing ideas from another person gives me a direction to take - seeing specialists. I am 52 and the various GPs never even suggested that, instead they throw pills at me. I am sharing your video to patients because the information is presented in an easy to understand way.
Thanks Dr for such a comprehensive, informative video. If only some of the Drs I've seen over the years were this informative, I'd have had a lot less anxiety and a lot less tests.
@@YorkCardiologyThe york Cardiology site isn't working. It says Tecnical difficulties & also the text introduction said New York Cardiology. Both have errors.
I don't think I slept at all last night and amazingly, I am not that tired. I love playing on my tablet in the quiet of the night. That's my time - time I'm not taking away from somebody or something more important. I used to read every night so I've always been a night person, even when I worked. I've spent many hours listening to Dr. Gupta's videos. They're very interesting and educating. He's a great teacher and great communicator - the Doctor we all wish we had. Don't know what motivated him to do the videos but they're a blessing!
I'm convinced a large percentage of my elevated blood pressure is stress related. But....first objective is to get the numbers down, then deal with the stress on a larger scale.
This was excellent doc., I'm 70 had a heart attack, -triple by-pass in 2004. I love your vids, you are so clear in your descriptions of the functions of the body, thank you very much.
Thanks for this detailed explanation. I've been dealing with the high blood pressure for 16 years or so now. As you suggest, I don't think that the high BP started 16 years ago. I have always been extremely fit and active and my occupation was very physical. After I left that occupation, my weight began to rise steadily. It was found that I had sleep apnea, and I use a CPAP machine now. That has helped. I've retired 8 years ago, so the major source of the stressors in my life are gone. That all has improved my life and health, but not necessarily the BP. Still on the meds for that. I always felt that my treatments for that were based off of guesses on what is going on within me. The explanations from my doctors were vague at best. It seems that there is a lack of understanding to some degree on the topic. I am glad that the problem has been identified and steps have been taken that should mitigate any damage.
Thank you very much for your super presentation. Keep it up. I am doctor who practiced medicine in India, UK and Saudi Arabi and retired two years ago. I find your presentation very concise and informative as well as simple to understand by everyone. Thank you again .
Doctor.....your explanations are clear and extremely helpful and has relieved my stress level greatly. It makes life easier when the lay person has a true understanding of things. Most doctors don't have the time to do so. So..Thank you so much!
This video was very helpful to me, especially the idea of using small doses of several types of medication. My family is prone to high blood pressure, heart attacks and strokes -- I'm the only exception, with low-normal bp and a slow heart rate around 50 beats/minute. The lifestyle difference between me and the rest of my family is that I refuse to eat eggs. In fact, I'm convinced that high egg consumption is directly responsible for the high rate of heart attacks and strokes in America. Of course I'm judging only from personal experience and I could be wrong.
You are a godsend. Bless you for caring about people and I pray for your health as well. I would like to discuss my current health with you. How can I contact you directly Dr?
Some Doctors' enthusiasm is squashed by the principles they have to work with too. They have rules and regulations, allotted time, a "quota" of patients and time constraints pushed beyond the limit by patients. I think most of them do a great job.
Very useful indeed. You have explained in simple words, the very complex concept of blood pressure and how to control it; first by natural means of life style modifications; then followed by multi pronged approach to regulate the pressure through blockers, both beta and alpha. Thanks a lot.
Thank-you, Dr. Gupta. Wish you were my doc. I'm in the USA, where my docs over-prescribe blood pressure meds. Sure glad I quit them with exercise and diet.
Thank you young man for these videos . Keep them flowing. Health promotion in my day ps of nursing was of primary importance. In the last 20 yrs we lost this ethos and Philosophy of care. It's great to see a lovely young Dr explaining this in a simplistic way, with no jargon. With blessings and love X
Hi doc im from Mauritius Since 2 days i feel like heaviness in my chest n im suffering from indigestion problem. Yesterday night i feel very hot n i was not able to sleep i feel like my heart beat low .i feel suffocating then i see your video i got relief i was thinking that i will not be able to wake up nxt morning.thank doc .
Thanks. My doctor has stopped doing the 24 monitoring system, only the twice daily monitor for a week. I was 169/100 in the surgery and only a little lower when I self monitored twice daily. I'm in my 50s, exercise most days (cycle to work via the riverside) and do free weights) am not overweight, eat healthily, avoid salty foods, limit my carbs and only unrefined pastas/rice, gave up caffeine months ago, never smoke or drink and have a good low- responsibility p/t job and relaxing hobbies which make me very happy. So it seems medication may now be my only option🤨. I'm surprised you didn't mention alcohol or salt as other bad things to cut out? I have an 3.5% increased risk of having a heart attack in the near future. When i asked for a false addition of smoking be put into the computer calculation, the increased risk was only 6%. Hey ho.
Hi Sanjay, great to hear a Cardiologist who explains things so clearly , plus I know from listening to your Magnesium video, that you understand and promote natural remedies; Question :How effective is L-Arginine as a vasodilator? My husband is on two drugs as his BP was 240/150 when he was diagnosed 8 years ago. He had a lot of stress and exhaustion at the time and has sleep apnea (and a CPAP machine)! In the morning when he takes it is is generally 135/80.
Amazing! A doctor that says things that makes sense! I always say that doctors here in the US just send medications without even considering to a change on lifestyle and primarily the food, the majority of today’s chronic diseases can be cured by just changing the way you eat. Great job doc!! 😊👏🏻👍🏻
Straight to the point , good video. I have one question to share with you. It is obvious for instance that the difference between 120.80 .... systolic/ diastolic is 40 points.... what is the danger if the difference in these figures go above a difference of 40. Or lower than 40 points. There is very little data.... I have had readings as low as 99/60 when on my meds and felt no difference. Your view point on this would be helpful.......thx Larry
Thank you so much for this very informative report on blood pressure. I'm a great follower of your talks. Keep up the great work you are doing. Looking forward to hearing more from you.
@@YorkCardiology oh ! The name is same so I thought that's you doctor sir. Anyway I am very fond of doctor sir. And one more surprising thing is you responded to me so fast ! I am amazed. And a year back or so I subscribed this channel and I always read everything you post doctor. Thank you Doctor.
Thank you so much Dr Gupta you are amazing I have learnt so much from you. Please keep your video's coming it's a great pleasure to listen to you .I only wish you were my cardiologist.💜Thankyou.x
Thank you for explaining about BP. I've developed a phobia of measuring blood pressure and now it is impossible for me to know the real numbers... Every time I try to measure it, I go strait into a panic attack... sigh...
Had the same issue. I find that reading and concentrating on some type of instruction manual while taking my BP helps distract me. I also take my pulse before I take BP and then compare it to the number on the BP monitor to see how much of the heart rate increase is from just taking the BP. It doesn’t tell me how much the BP increase might be from taking the BP but it does seem to tell me if anxiety went up when taking BP.
In Ireland doctors say to cut down the salt! Cutting down on famous bacon n cabbage! Even a 15 min run on an undulating course will help. The little hills definitely help.

What if only one number is high? My bottom number is high quite often, however, my top number is usually great. The last time it was taken it was 120/90 for example. Thank you for all of your informative videos.
Can you explain why when I go to the doctor it goes up, I’ve always had like 125/70 then few years ago was 130/80, and I see 140/90 when I go to the doctor I am 49, the lower was when I was 20 years old. I am in menopause and have bad anxiety and health anxiety. I’ve had high readings when I go to the doctor. My dad had me relax at home and it was 123/70
Your comments at the end of the video made my day thank you, another ready brilliant video. The interesting thing is I have a cholestrol Level of 7.3 but a low blood pressure average 112/65. For years I have had high cholestrol, could it be that some people have high cholesterol don't fur up the pipes! I'm 68 so getting on a bit.😀
+springtime445 yes that is true. I have seen some patients...with high cholesterols who have normal heart arteries and others who don't have high cholesterols with badly furred up arteries
Dr. Sanjay Gupta could you please do a video on Low Blood Pressure, what causes it and how can someone increase their blood pressure if they are someone who eats a Whole Plant-Based Diet and cannot digest animal products.
I realise this is a fairly old video now, but hoping either the doctor or someone knowledgeable can tell me what counts as 'young' in terms of blood pressure? Thanks
It's messed up, when calm & w out anxiety. It's usually 60bpm. Now it's up to 100 bmp when stressed + w chest pain! The cause is def not anxiety as I've dealt w that my entire life. It seems to be something more, yet undetermined. Tho i can fathom what it might be!
I have Hashimoto's and my blood pressure goes high if I don't have the right amount of thyroid replacement hormones (too much or too little). So of course they gave me calcium channel blocker, beta blocker, and diuretics instead of just fixing my hormones. I was scared to change lanes because I would get dizzy checking my blind spot with all those meds.
Please clarify whether clogging of arteries is always associated with high BP or there may be possibility of having normal BP in case arteries are clogged due to plaque build up
thanks, Doctor this is a very interesting and educative video. I have actually noticed some times when I go for a blood pressure test and my reading will be high about 140/96 and when stressed it shoots to about 150/108 as of recent. My question is if, for instance, your blood pressure has been high for a long time without your knowledge. definitely, damage on your vessels will have been created. Is there a way to repair the dame by changes in lifestyle or if the BP is managed at a normal reading would the damages caused heal with time.
Coffee/caffeine will raise it some. Pure nicotine in lozenges will raise it some. If I do both in the morning I've gotten 165/95 before with blurry vision headache and off balance. And some heart pain. (Treadmill EKG says my heart is like athlete )By 4pm it's back to 115/73. How do these interact and why. I may have a death wish.
thank you so much Dr Gupta, Having listened to might stop me developing high blood pressure, I'm going to stop smoking in very first place. But I need an advice please, usually smokers have low stamina but I've started running right now, I feel a little pain in my heart while my BP goes up and get relax as soon as it drops down. Do you think I should seriously consider visiting a Cardiologist or monitor it for a few days, the reason why I'm asking is I've had the same problem a couple of years back when I started jogging, but it got disappeared in a month or so. What could that be?
+Hussain Malik you should probably have an exercise test under medical supervision in the first instance. This will give you the confidence that exercise is safe for you
Dr, I've always had a low to normal BP, but since I got pregnant, at week 17, my doctor realized my bp had been high. The highest reading I've gotten is 130/100. So I've started monitoring it at home it's most times in a range of 127/90. What should I do?
