Thank you for sharing. My daughter when she was 18 months old was diagnose with food intolerance. But doctors wouldn't listen to me. They thought i was crazy or want to put her on gluten free and vegan diet. Over years trying different foods i kept 2 year food diary 😢 eliminate all the foods except fruits and vegetables. She does year around rhinitis. Psoriasis and rosacea . Sever asthma level 3. Finding out this is huge problem eoe . I can't imagine why doctors would put this off . She would throw up . Flushing on cheeks. Fever. Hives They kept saying take benadryl. So i went to Children's Hospital that's when things changed and finally got help

Going gluten-free is the most important first step, but if you really want to go all out, I recommend eating a carnivore diet plus carbohydrates, i.e., white rice and/or potatoes.

I have dysphagia from EOE and reflux. Seeing all the happy people with their friends enjoying food makes me sad I cant do that :(

Ben, I feel your pain. For over a decade now I've had to be dilated (Endoscopy) each year to reduce dysphagia. It has greatly affected my social life and led to some depression. Very few understand the panic of drowning effects that choking episodes causes. In my own case, it has led to anxiety and typically I'll turn down a social occasion because everything is surrounded by food as the center of the celebration. I'm sorry for you and can certainly relate. I'm now 57 and my diet is reduced to fruits, vegetables, and certain proteins. I used to love grilling steaks and smoking meats but have been told smoked meats are out. It can be highly frustrating and as you see, I go back regularly for not following my diet strictly enough.

@@GregorsOutdoors Thanks for the message, I know what you mean with the drowning/chocking, before I was diagnosed I had a drowning episode where I got a carrot stuck, then I took a big gulp of water to push it down, however it didn't go down, and the water came up and I started drowning on it. Scariest thing ever, and now if I ever feel like something is stuck, it always takes me back to that time when I had the drowning episode, its like PTSD. And if you get it multiple times it just makes you a nervous wreck. Do you take medication for your EOE? Or do you just do a diet and get dilatations?

@@benjamesv Nearly had a panic attack reading your experience with the carrot and water. Yes, I've been there many times- very embarrassing and scary at restaurants when you go into a restroom choking and you're not sure if you'll make it back out. The PTSD thing with me is real in my mind. If I get the slightest sensation of an episode beginning- my mind races out of control. Currently, I"m on Protonix and I've been on about every kind of heartburn meds known to mankind. My dilations were every 2 years, to begin with then went to a year and the last one I had there were only 7 months between procedures. I'm hoping there will be an FDA-approved drug to help me and others like me. It has virtually killed my social life. I've almost become a hermit and I hate that I'm doing that to my wife. Yes, there are far worse diseases- so I have to remind myself not to throw regular pity parties- but it is nice to speak with someone else who understands. Thanks for listening.

@@benjamesv Forgot to say, I am on a highly restrictive diet as well. I'm allergic to wheat, corn, dairy, shellfish, tree nuts, and soy products- so my diet is limited due to these ingredients being found in almost everything. It's a challenge to eat right.

I had difficulty swallowing around age 10. Around age 12 I was falling behind on my growth chart. So I was referred to a specialist. I got my diagnosis around the age of 14. I am 37 now. Talk with your doctor and have them mediate or advocate on your behalf to your parents.
