Great video. I'm a 34 year old male and was diagnosed after 3 years of hell and severe symptoms. After seeing dozens of doctors I finally found an allergist/ gi doctor who diagnosed me. We need more doctors who can diagnose this. Still in severe pain daily, no meds work. Only starving myself regularly for a few days seem and going glueten, dairy , nut, egg, chicken, free has helped. This disease sucks hard.
Sorry to hear that you are in constant pain. How are you feeling now ?have you got any cure/treatment for your EoE ?My son has the same problem .No medicine working for him...so much pain on daily basis. His condition is mild but still lot of belly pain .
April 2009 was my diagnosis of EoE. It took twenty four years of suffering to get it. The gastroenterologist who did my scope perforated my esophagus, and I spent three days in a SICU. Put that it your case literature. You don't know pain until your chest cavity has been filled with air.
This was a very thorough presentation. I had an appointment with a throat specialist today and she suspects EoE. I already had an appointment lined up with a GI doctor in a few weeks so he could assess the swallowing problems, esophageal issues and my Behcets disease .
Thank you so much for this video!! I was diagnosed with this a couple years ago but been dealing with it ever since I was a kid, never had any serious issues with it just 2 times had to get it surgically removed today actually being the second so taking it more seriously and doing some research thank u for your video
@@mademen5234 i think she is dead. complicated, your allergy test could show you don't have it but you still can have it. try eliminate and see how you feel
What about infiltrated eosinophils? Bet they don’t tell you about that, been diagnosed with eoe for over 10 years and for me it’s now more clear than ever it had NOTHING to do with food
Very informative. Well presented. I have this condition for as long as i can remember, only that i didn't know what it was called. I called it; "esophagus spasms". I have had my esophagus dilated before. Though, i was told that my esophagus was *very* narrowed. That the adult scope wasn't going down, and had to use an infant device. That seem to have scratched the inner lining. And had to stop. No, hospital stay.. just very sore for the next few days afterwards. But i was NOT diagnosed. Since it was beyond that time of this knowledge information! There is so much that i didn't know.. other then the underlying problems and causes that i went through day in and out; emotionally and physically frustrating, and publicly embracing, when out an about! As you mentioned in your studies; it wasn't well known back then... so it has been a long road of dealing with my esophagus spasms, on my own. My doctor had never seen this. Nor knew how to help me... so. I fell through the cracks. But now, i know I'm not alone in this anymore... There's steps in the future for me.. to find out if this what i have. Thank you gor the research information. I have taken notes. Learning everyday something new! Now time for a few more appointments!
That's true doctor especially Gp's don't have an idea thats what's going in your body. Really agree with words people embracing and frustrating. I am going through the same situation.
I had a scope and dialation as a teen. Same thing. Way smaller than they thought. Ended up tearing esophagus. No fun at all. No lasting results. Extremely extremely extremely strict food choices are the only relief for me. I don’t want Rx or steroids so I have not used
Hello, so I was recently diagnosed with EoE and I am awaiting a visit at the clinic, should I expect some further allergy tests to be done by my doctor?
Thank you your lecture it is very informative. I’ve been struggling with symptoms of EoE for a long time. I’m now 60 and I’ve had trouble swallowing my entire life. I’m hoping you may have a suggestion for me. I started noticing food type allergies when I was in high school. Serum IgE tests are negative for food allergies. I have been diagnosed with GERD and been on Prilosec for 3 yrs with little to no relief. I vomit from eating at times and I have food and medication that gets impacted causing me to vomit as well. I just had a endoscopy done and my esophagus stretched. My dr said my muscles are really tight in my throat. Biopsies show 3 eosinophils per high power and mild focal esophagitis. My dr doesn’t plan to change my treatment and no further testing. I’m afraid at some point I will choke to death. Would you suggest I get a 2nd opinion on treatment and diagnosis?
I am so glad I saw this!. I have asthma, eczema and allergies to certain foods. I am also experiencing many of the things you talked about and I have told my doctor and he put me on Prilosec for heartburn. I still get horrible chest pain that radiates to my jaw.
Thanks Kevin for a clear presentation. I realise this vid is getting dated now and more information may be coming available. I have been diagnosed with Lymphocytic Esophagitis or LE which is a similar condition a close cousin if you will. My gastro took biopsies twice and the pathology was properly determined. I am on 40mb of Nexium twice a day . That is 80mg per day a high dose. I do not have any other gastro symptoms like GERD or allergies. Not on any other medications and generally healthy. The Nexium is so far not working and I have had a couple of dilations to get esophagus back to more normal diameter. I was interested in what you said about genetic predisposition. By now there should be some data base set up so there can be some studies done for those with EoE and LE. If anyone has seen recent vids on LE treatment please link me to them Cheers
Hi all, I've been suffering from this for over a year and was only diagnosed today, lost about 40 KGs since I cannot swallow properly - my question is how do you manage to swallow the PPI tablets or capsules? in the UK they do not offer a liquid version. Thanks
I have been diagnosed with EOE and just put on oral inhaler steroid and PIP and 6 food elimination (12 weeks) . I had Severe Asthma as a child, I am born with OI and fear that these meds will cause more bone issues??????? I have had 3 times that had to have food bolus removed (one time endoscopy done with out sedation and tore my esophagus and ended up in the hospital IV and heavy antibiotics for a week. My current Dr is the one finally that discovered that I have EOE. LA Grade D results
I was diagnosed in 2012 ( I suspect I had it in 2009) and up to this day they tell me I do no fit the parameters of eoe NOW but I did in 2012, so I had a diagnostic, now the doctors tell me I do not, but I still suffer pain and eosinophilia. No positive igE, no food or skin allergies, I’ve done various tests, done the 6 element exclusive diet, still no answers... Also, my esophagus isn’t the only organ affected, all the way to my colon is as well and i had a miopericarditis, which I suspect it was due to eosinophilia as well.
There is another eosinophil disease called hypereosinophilic syndrome. Instead of just attacking the esophagus, the eosinophils begin to attack bodily functions, and bodily organs. HES can only be treated with prescription medications.
I have problems specifically with food like rice and beef and my throat who CV I have to clear a billion times after eating. Reflux pills don’t help so I suspect eoe.
My son has eliminated milk products, is a hit and miss. Because lots of food has milk casen and whey. we had very hot days, so we only had cold foods like sandwiches. I noticed that he's acne got worse. Could he be allergic to milk AND gluten????
hi I was talking hcg drops to lose weight for like 7 days and I caught a reaction so when I went to the doc because I was feeling light tingling sensation in my face hands so I had like small acid reflex so I when to a gi and he he did and endoscopy said I have eoe I will like to know if hcg drops can do this to me because I been feeling like this since I had the hcg only for 7 days so I belive a have small inflammation in my face and hands or never inflammation in face hand so can hcg cause this eoe to start
I'm sorry to say this but I am so freaked out right now. I've had TERRIBLE dysphagia and now EXTREME FATIGUE!! I've been to the ER 4 times regarding most of these symptoms. All my blood work has come back normal. I had an endoscopy last Thursday in which he dilated my esophagus. But I'm still having terrible swallowing issues!! I wonder if I have EOE. Does fatigue go along with this condition???
Yeah I find things to distract me like video games or TV or a dog my dog Emma has gotten me through a lot just in general find something you enjoy doing
@@shadowchaser2859 i have a cat , he is more than a month with me. I noticed lately I got nasal congestion everytime I stay near to him and these 3 days I started heartburn. Is it possible cat could caused EoE?
I've got EoE so bad, that I've get to on a "astronaut" food diet, no other foods, just that one single shake with all the needs for a human, and than test for which proteins I'm allergic to. Also if I'm in that 35% of not only being allergic to food, but also to fruits, grass, trees, etc, I'll have to eat this for the rest of my life, because the medication doesn't help me enough to get the symptoms away.... Almost seems to me as if I'm allergic to life..
