Understanding Fusions (And How To Make Them) | Ben 10, MHA, DBZ, & More!

I like when the name of the fusion is it's own, individual, name. Like naming an Upgrade and Heatblast fusion "Firewall" instead of "Heatgrade".

This explains why characters and Steven universe usually talk to fusions like a separate character instead of two characters being put together. Thanks for clearing that up.

Frankenstein Fusion: Common and uncommon elements put together seemingly at random. Hybrid Fusion: Common elements mixed together + Uncommon elements of each component. Foster Fusion: Only common elements + new elements that follow the same line.

Some names for upgrade fusions: Cannonbolt: Crash Test (or some pun on RAM) Four Arms: Tech-knuckle (like technical) Heatblast: Firewall Stinkfly: Wi-fly/Debugger XLR8: BPS (pronounced "Bips", as in bits per second) Either Blitzwolfer or Wildmutt or someone could be a pun of "gigabyte", but not sure who.

Unpopular opinion but my favourites are the reskin and hybrid styles. They often feel like a perfect mashup, mixing both characters without becoming an over-designed mess.

Watermelon quartz the only fusion that can freindzone Connie and anger a huge chunk of a fan base at once and they did bring back the Ben 10 fusion chamber toy for the reboot

I'd been feeling really uninspired in terms of art for years. I hadn't drawn anything Ben 10 related in almost a decade now and hadn't really drawn for fun in the past 5, only working on my course work. After watching this though, I felt really up for it and got to work on drawing a fusion between Diamond Head and Gravattack. It was actually really fun and I feel pretty good about what I produced. Thank you :)

This artists were amazing, the fusions were amazing, everything about this video was amazing! I really liked the ‘Crimson Comet’ design because it could have been Kirishima’s quirk, if one of his parents had a fire-based quirk, and that AU-level of uniqueness is what sells it for me.

Usually when I do a fusion I like to pick out some key features that for sure have to carry over. If one character is super muscley, the whole fusion has to be slightly bulky at least.

I'm an artist who's done a decent amount of fusions but up until now I've actually never considered the type of fusion and just kinda did what felt right. Now I'll definitely be going back and checking

I know that not everyone likes the re skin design type fusion But I feel like all four of the design types are equally valid for different reasons.

I LOVE hybrid and Foster style because it allows artist such as FloofHips to make almost completely new species/ characters whether there compatible or not . (Ash's art and tons of others are amazing examples )

I made characters as a kid, and the idea of them was elements that can blend together and become new things. with that, i tried to do several merges. Now with this video I see the types of fusions I used to do, and I say: I mixed up the very concept of fusion a lot

Not only do I get to see some of my favorite artists and their process (Xian and Elmike) but I also got a brand new artist to check out (Floofhips) The guide for fusions is just really solid in general, and I cant wait to test the process using this! I think it’s an interesting idea fusing humans from my hero with aliens because if I recall correctly the watch takes an alien species and gives you the peak form of them. And I feel like it would be interesting to explore turning into a human in the world where DNA can hold so many different types of quirks

Good timing! I was recently working on my own version of Kevin 11 I called Malgalm, a play on amalgamation and Malcolm, I like to take "normal" names and tweak them to better fit what I'm naming. First off my 10 aliens would be: Wildmutt, Greymatter, Snare-oh, Arctiguana, Swampfire, Chromastone, Lodestar, Terraspin, Bloxx, and Buzzshock. Now you may have noticed 1, Bloxx is one of them and yes even though I've been a fan of Ben 10 since the beginning I still like him, second favorite actually, I just pretend he's made of terracotta. Anyway, none of my 10 have extra arms or tails, so I didn't want to force Malgalm to have them. Going from feet to hands, he has Greymatter's right leg, his right, and Wildmutt's left, Terraspin's abdomen and vents with the chest being: left half Lodestar, right half Chromastone, with their respective shoulder spikes. The head, back, and body-shape are Arctiguana's with broader shoulders. The arms are interesting, since I didn't want to give him four I went with fusing two of the four remaining aliens for each one? The left arm is Bloxx mixed with Buzzshock, Bloxx's arm re-colored from red, yellow, and blue to black, white, and green, and replacing the "studs" with the bolts on Buzzshock's arms. The right arm is Swampfire mixed with Snare-oh, the tendrils more like vines with moss on them to smooth and hide the gaps, just imagine Snare-oh's arm is green instead of tan/grey. The forearm is still black since both use it in their color schemes as a secondary color, but instead of glowing green, the gaps glow reddish orange similar to the spikes on Swampfire's arms after he bloomed, and there's an extra tendril hanging of his right shoulder.

In the beginning of when I joined the Fandom I liked to make fusions as well, though I struggled with it and stopped, but when I saw this video it really helped me with drawing and creating better fusions.

Why don’t you make ultimate aliens for all of the ones that don’t have one

I became obsessed with fusion as soon as I saw it in dragon ball and I had honestly forgotten that I had seen it in Ben 10 but looking back there’s no way I didn’t think that was amazing. Actually I remember him wanting the fusions to be more stable and for the watch to have a feature similar to ultimate but instead switching that to fusing alien species. And Steven universe just really hit home my love for a fusions like it did it so well. I also remember growing up looking at Pokémon fanart of different Pokémon combined into one making these really cool designs and conserves

There’s a My Hero Academia and Ben 10 crossover fanfic I recommend called Heroes Never Die It’s Hero Time which has Izuku get the Omnitrix while Ochako got One for All. It’s really interesting as instead of Heatblast being the first alien, Feedback is the first alien Izuku gets with Heatblast being unlocked during the fight with Shouto during the Sports Festival.

Being somewhat of an artist myself, I love fusion art styles! I do it sometimes in my drawings!

Foster Style, or better yet "Awesome Alien idea that can be it's own thing." Hybrid and Foster are my favorite.

This is amazing! I love doing fusion work and I am grateful to now know all the different approaches to creating character mashups. These designs are so unique and exciting. Watching these artists go through their individual processes was so satisfying!

Anyone else a fan of a 'balanced' Frankenfusion? Like, Say you're working with creatures where one is primarily black and one is primarily white... It's nice to see when people to with like, black left leg white right... Then black right arm white left... and alternate... to balance

Wow this definetly shows the neater aspects of each train of thought got fusion. It very likely is the ben 10 influencing me but when drawing fusions its very often the in franke style, the mess of parts always adds to the cool monstrous look I adore and i’ve honestly seen the concept off fusion in the first place as something of a chaotic mish mash that one would be weary of unlike SU or DBZ. This certainly gives me more of an apprication of fosters and reskins though, but i think hybrids might be the magnum opus of my favorites even if I don’t employ it often.

I know this isn't really one but when alien force started, i thought that some of the aliens that ben then had were fusions but like in a different way. (For Example, i thought swampfire was a fusion of heatblast and wildvine.) I thought they fused them in a similar way of selective breeding. Like if you could somehow have these two species breed, this would be the offspring and would be considered a new species. (Other ones i thought of like that were: echo echo was a mix of blitzwolfer and ditto, big chill was a mix of articguana and leftover dna of ghostfreak.)....the thing is i was kind of right with some of the aliens being connected to the originals because as it turns out, chromastone was related to diamondhead in a way!

Funny, when I found this I was 4 gyms into Pokemon Infinite Fusion. (The fusions are fun and the difficulty is solid but DO NOT expect a good fan game. It's very clear where the effort went lol)

I high key lost it when I saw the Ghostfreak Tokoyami fusion. That looks amazing

One of my most recent and favorite fusions (even if I know many dislike him (them? it?)) is actually Ultron-Sigma from MvCI. I remember how when the game was first being teased they showed just the lights of its body and people eventually figured out it had elements of both villains, and then the reveal trailer which honestly still gives me chills, just the way they deliver their name. It's a clear hybrid style fusion, and one I really like. Incidentally, Ultron-Omega would be frankenstein since it's cleart they're clashing against each other then

Honestly with Battalion I get a really weird Blitzwolfer vibe from it, like maybe Blitz, Big Chill and Crashhopper (which would be awesome I wish I could draw)

I LOVE fusion my 2 favorites are Dragon Ball with the fusion dance/potara earrings even after they retconed it and the Lesser talked about Transformers combination just the idea of multiple individuals coming together to form a giant living weapon Power ranger style is awesome to me

Before I fall in love with PokéFusions, I love Ben 10 Alien Fusions first so this is kinda nostalgic and educational at the same time~ Edit: I love the fact that they have a unique name! Back when I was active in r/Pokemon, I try to make a FusionDex when someone post a fusion. I try to make the name more unique, and based their fusion design to determine what competitive type that fusion (special attacker, glass cannon, physical tank, those stuff). Then make the base stat and combines the dex entries.

I also consider myself a ben 10 "fan boy" and have always been a fan of ben 10 fusion art.

I like to think foster style as making a baby from the fusees, if that makes sense

Every now and then, I come back to this video. Especially currently because in the past year I’ve had a spike in the number of DNA digivolution designs I’ve had to make. Frankenstyle is Easilly one of my favorites- making something evil and monsterous using it feels fantastic- and hybrid style is even better. Seriously, some jogresses like Boltboutmon really work that. I actually use some of this mentality as well when making fan digimon evolutions. While not all digivolutions are gonna look like what they come from, the best maintain elements or traits of what came before to make for what feels like a cohesive, thought out line. I blame you for me having any idea what I’m doing these days Ash, you and that cool freaking hat… thank you for putting together such a great video man. Has helped me out a lot over the past year.

Great video, i've always loved the concept of fusions as well, and like looking fan art of alien fusions/ultimates etc that we never got in the show, or even showing up in fanfics.

Okay now I want Ben to gain the favor of Arceus specifically for that fusion. That would be one of the most OP characters to exist.

I like fusions of aliens that already have somewhat similar abilities (XLRtrack, Eatlechuck, Echo Ditto Echo Ditto, Feedstone, Brain Matter, etc.)

This vid reminds me of a fusion I did back between Alien X (Ben 10) and Charlie Magne (Hazbin Hotel). Looking back on it, I'm seeing it as a reskin fusion kinda

If we're going based off of these rules, I think the 2 fusions Gogeta and Vegito are great examples of hybrid-style fusions. But I can see it being a bit of reskin-style or foster-style as well.

19:14 I think that name was meant to be a reference to Beelzebub, the sin of gluttony. Seeing as though it's from the three original powerhouse aliens Ben has, which can fight on equal footing with divinity, who can shift reality and himself to his own whim.

Okay, the character voice that got me was Hydrant. Most of the ones before had been very DEEP AND DRAMATIC or equally gimmicky, like Ghostfreeza, and those were good voices, but something about Hydrant got to me. I think it's because it combines their voices as well - the walkie-talkie static from Goop's Omniverse iteration while still sounding more like a person (Water Hazard) than Goop's comedically high-pitched gurgle.
