A video essay and character analysis on Ivan Locke (2014) from the movie Locke.
Ivan Locke is a dedicated family man that is also a successful construction manager but Ivan has to make the biggest decision of his life on the eve of the biggest challenge of his career.
Ivan chooses to travel for the birth of his baby who he had with another woman, instead of going home to his family or in to work. This sets of a motion of events that threatens his carefully cultivated existence.

Fantastic film. Saw it a few days ago, and I cannot stop thinking about it. Quite an incredible screenplay by Knight. Very much looking forward to his new project this year; Serenity.

If you want more Steven Knight, watch Peaky Blinders. He's the creator and writer, with him also directing a few episodes. It's a great TV show.

We don't know what happened after the movie. I think usually a man like Ivan who takes responsibility does great for everyone in the long term.

I'd like to pose a question to anyone.....does he actually go to the hospital?? In the very last scene, he gets to the end of the road and turns Left, but puts his Right indicator on. Much like the earlier scene. Meaning he returns home to his son, but also meaning he ends up being what he didn't want, to be like his father. Just a thought from another post I've seen. Thanks all

He wasn't a womanizer, he wasn't pursuing an affair, he wasn't seeking to cheat. He had a moment of human weakness one time under strange circumstances and he is owning up to it and he is facing the consequences. He is a better man than most

Missed the concrete pour, missed the birth. He could’ve achieved his goal by leaving after the pour and accomplished more.

Yes. He says in 15 years he only once made a mistake

But to his wife that one mistake makes him the worst person ever. Because he says he's only made one mistake doesn't disregard the pain that one mistake has on his family, especially his wife.

It's such a complex message. But I understand that Ivan wants to be a man for everyone since he was a child for no one. If that makes sense. Also I admire that he tries to fix his mistake, although he is doing it to clear his family name by putting the baby's name as Locke.

Neither, everyone makes mistakes, but not all mistakes deserve to be forgiven. When you make a mistake the best course of action is honesty and to accept the consequences where they fall.
