I think Kiko is definitely my favorite out of the new cohort of designers, he's just brilliant and imho I think he's probably the only one that has the talent to be creative director of one of the big 4. But I'm not sure he wants that, he's radical and dark but so perfect, he makes me want to wear everything he makes and he made me understand and appreciate other colors that I'm not usually a fan of (green, grey, red wine).
Definitely. He seems like a really smart guy. Looking forward to seeing how he shapes his career. I'd love to see his house become financially stable enough to not have to depend entirely on Asics to support the shows. But even with the sponsorship, he's still putting out incredible stuff.
This was SO enjoyable to watch, the research and preparation you put into these videos is so evident and appreciated. I don't know where else would provide this detailed context and information that really elevates the collection. Also, hearing you talk about the progression and fluidity with men's fashion is a really interesting point that I feel a lot of critics have not discussed/can gloss over. LUV IT.
Bliss loved this for me that i am more into thrifting and that i don't know a lot about high fashion is amazing love your analysis and the effects of this clothes is so cool ;). The Met Gala live was litttttt great job
Your rather disarmingly delightful and engaging charm has definitely piqued my sartorial interest! 😄 Also loving the elucidating analyses 👍🏽 Cheers man, for giving me an accessible avenue into the Fashion World™ 😁 🖖🏽
@@BlissFoster I honestly think it just popped up in my Home feed on the app. I've been watching a few Violet Chachki and Drag Race fashion vids recently so maybe that prompted the algorithm? 🤷🏽♂️ I'm looking forward to dipping into your work and seeing what you put out next ☺ Keep up the great work! 😄 🖖🏽
I think this has been my favorite show you've analyzed so far. I may need to rewatch this and pause to consider more about why the garments resonated for me, but I really liked your comment "on a more technical level, it looks cool." That basically sums it up for me, especially for the Asics branded stuff and the crazy textures Kiko used. Do you know why so many of these shows use movies as inspirations for their collections as opposed to other mediums of art? Kiko, Undercover, and Raf Simons are three that you've reviewed with follow this pattern.
Please feel free to leave another comment if you rewatch and give us your second thoughts! And that's an interesting question about the movies as inspo. I'm not sure I have a good answer off top. I'll have to think on that one.
I can’t help but wonder as well. Perhaps movies are the only source of cultural imagery that will resonate with people. Playing (or relying) on nostalgia? Or genuine expressions of niche ideas/concepts?
Another great runway analysis, I am quite new to Kiko's work but the construction of some of those garments are impressive. Would be amazing to see the fabric and textures up close
Yeah, I feel like the first 30 or so vids are all gonna be kinda obvious haha. Like, "oh finally here's the Yohji ep" "I was wondering when he'd do a McQueen episode" etc lol
The hair is more of a reference to the Number Nine AW 09 show and pinstripe As well as most fine patterns aren't able to be picked up through screen so the distortion effect happens often. not something I think he was intending.
The Fall, Trainspotting, Hook, LoTR trilogy, Brotherhood of the Wolf, Dangerous Liaisons, Fight Club, Romeo+Juliet, and every Guy Richie movie before Sherlock Holmes.
Thanks for another great video !!! Your analysis are amazing ! You made my day 👍🏻 What do you think about Iris van Herpen’s Autumn Winter 2014 show at Paris Fashion Week?
Ditto on the other comments. Even before this video, I was wondering if you ever take inspo from women's clothes. I like how you phrased the, that men crave the ability to express masculine energy in a new way. (paraphrased) I think in terms of masculine and feminine energy, rather than gender expectations. Are you a movie nerd too? Do you have any films that you would recommend for style inspo or aesthetic appeal? (I refrain from horror at all cost)
great video. but at 3:25 , i'm pretty sure the vogue runway app just works like that. i've seen that effect for a bunch of different shows, all you have to do is zoom in and the effect disappears
Benjamin Chen yes! And it’s not just in the vogue app, it’s the way all screens work. BUT designers definitely know what will trigger that effect and they choose when to use it :)
James Shoats IG you’re talking about the intro, those are “Trigenic Scale” boots from the Christopher Ræburn X Clarks collab. I did a whole video on them! It’s the second vid I ever released 💫💫
Lol "Hit me up and say hi". Hi there. Just a basic question...u said Kiki worked at Macintosh...do you mean Macintosh, as in APPLE? Just curious. Besides that, great vid!😊
