Our personality style is the source of strengths and weaknesses and affects all key areas of our life: relationships, work, emotions, self-control, and how we see the world. Even though our personality is as unique as a fingerprint, clinicians have identified a certain number of styles. And in this video, I want to introduce you to 14 personality styles + show you my favourite test to understand your unique combination 👇

Hi there 👋🏻
If we haven't met yet, my name is Alina 😊 I'm a German psycholgist and currently in training to become a psychodynamic psychotherapist. If I'm not working in an in-patient psychiatry or reading books, I create content about psychodynamic theory online. My mission is to help people understand themselves better to lead lives that are more free, meaningful, and connected.

This was precisely my impression, too. 😲 I thought immediately of Carl Jungs Thinking - Feeling - Intuitive - Sensation personality types, including the Extrovert or Introvert.

This is wonderful! I love the book and the test. Tell me, if I've taken the test (a couple of times) from the book (there's already free online versions of it that yield a graph like the one you showed)will I get any value from re-taking the paid one?

So cool that you already know the book and took the test! It's so interesting, isn't it? 😊 If you've already taken the test in the book, I don't think the paid online version makes sense for you. It's more convenient and gives you a percentile rank in comparison to the other 12.000 people who took it but your scores should be exactly the same 😉 And unfortunately the "free" online versions are mostly stolen versions as far as I know... The authors had to deal with their fair share of piracy...

Thank you for laying out the distinctions. There are so many models & I wonder if there is something like the one that is the mother of all that I could use. or am I being Conscientious here :) I studied Extended DISC & I wonder if there is a reliable resource that compares various models and gives us a perspective of pros and cons of those.

Thank you for your comment, Pramod! Unfortunately I don't know of any meta-model of all the meta-models, haha. But if you find one, let me know because that would be super handy. I haven't heard of the Extended DISC but it seems that is more geared towards work settings, is it? Best wishes!

Hello Alina, thank you a lot for a very informative video🙂 I already bought the recommended book about personality self-portrait and we like it with my wife a lot, I also plan to take the test online. BTW I am also a psychologist and I use frequently the questionnaire abbreviated in English PSDI (in German: PSSI Persönlichkeits-Stil- und Störungs-Inventar) constructed by German professor Julius Kuhl from the University of Osnabrück and it seems like conceptually very similar method as the test described in your video (it has also 14 scales and it is inspired by personality disorders). I wonder if you already heard about this PSDI method before? I know they have a course in Osnabrück about it, but unfortunately I am limited by my bad Deutch:( to attend.

Hi Petr, thank you so much for your interesting comment! Fro your wife and you, it might be very interesting to use the Group Portrait Function, where you can give each other access to your individual results and see them side-by-side. I found this super useful to use in a relationship. There are more descriptions about this on the test's website as well. I've never hear of the PSDI but thank you so much for bringing this to my attention! It looks really interesting. There seem to be indeed some similarities :) I'll look into this a bit more. Best wishes for you Petr!

How does this differ from horoscopes?

Your star sign is fixed from the moment of birth. Understanding personality means understanding not just inborn temperament but also the adjustment to life. Our personality can change (to a greater or lesser degree) as it is an adaptation based on those temperamental tendencies.

As a psychodynamic therapist, I am surprised you prescribe to the the DSM definition of "Borderline" as seperate disorder and not the traditional, psychoanalytic definition of it being a level of personality organisation as per the PDM. Honestly this makes me question your legitimacy as an actual psychodynamic therapist...
