Welcome to Understanding Pottery, Chapter 7: Chemistry for Potters. In this video you will learn some chemistry that is important in understanding how ceramics works. This is the first chapter in the section titled Use of Raw Materials.
Understanding Pottery is a series in production by Washington Street Studios. The series is a digital textbook that will take the listener through the entire ceramic process from the raw material through the finished ceramic pieces, the use of raw materials, kilns and firing practices and other pottery skills. The series will be divided into four sections.
i. The Pottery Making Sequence
Chapter one: What is Clay?
Chapter two: Clay Properties and Drying
Chapter three: Bisque Firing
Chapter four: Tips for Successful Glazing
Chapter five: Pyrometric Cones
Chapter six: Glaze Firing
ii. Use of Raw Materials
Chapter seven: Chemistry for Potters
iii. Kilns and Firings
iv. Additional Pottery Skills

Thanks, have you ever tried precious metal clay? Mostly used for jewelry, it's casting and ceramics combined.

It is, isn't it? I can't contain myself with excitement with each episode. I was reading about pottery for years, but only last few weeks found a place to have several lessons on. And I am obsessed. And these series is all I ever dreamt for . Shared it where I could, tough for a second I was hesitatn as it really felt like I was giving away gold :D:D

My favorite pottery channel - I am improving my skills at firing, glazing, making glazes, oxides, washes, and so on . Invaluable advice and understandable teaching. I feel like I am in a master class .
