I can't say enough good things about this session! I could watch you work with Standard Poodles all day. the diversity of everything in your program is the best I've seen! Thank you!
Stony, you referencing and euphemism is killing me ( in a great way). I am sitting here and this is so fun to watch because of your humor. I have a reactive dog and I will try your approach more often. I already tried and noticed, that my reactive to other dogs adult pup, has learnt to accept, and even engage in play, my son's dog's that she normally growls at. Covid really screwed a lot of dogs because owners were not able to socialize their dogs to other dogs. This is when we noticed our dog reverted back to her original reactivity. None of our regular walk partners wanted to walk together with their dogs. Everyone acted so afraid and now they also have reactive/ selective dogs. Their owners are even more unwilling to walk with their dogs with other people's dogs because of initial reactive start. They retreated to just take they small packs for lonely walks in a woods and their dogs are acting like small gangs. They have each other but will not tolerate others. It became a viscous cycle. I can't walk regularly with my son's dogs because of living distance and his time constrains and I need to find someone. It is hard to find a owner with well mannered dog to be willing to put up with other people's problem dog though.
I just adopted a chocolate labrador from a shelter. Perfect with my girls and I, but he's being reactive to other dogs. He's two years old and just got neutered at the shelter. I'm they type of person who feels I'm a bother to the world, so it's hard for me to make friends. I wish I could find patient people too, but it's hard.
I’m enjoying seeing their progress! It was fun to watch different people take the dogs through the course. They did a good job! The poodle in the background was fun to watch come in and out of the scene too. Jaguar is a very nice scruffy looking dog - I’ve never seen a GSD/poodle cross before! 😊
I watched Jag grow from a 4 week old baby rescued from a bad situation in a rescue in my area. He is a good hearted dog. He just need confidence and lots of obedience. He has tons of potential.
@@debbiesykes1389 Sorry I didn’t see this sooner. Thanks for sharing! I’m so glad Jag was rescued. I’m sure he’s going to do great with Uncle Stonnie. I look forward to seeing him in more videos. 😊
Training dog(s) is a hobby. Big fan of your videos. With some trepidation as someone who has never crossed your palm... a little more of this might help the passive viewer. The contrast between an expert influencer of dogs vs. the not-so-expert is really powerful (and the note about "we can't control other people in the environment".) And the power of passing the puppy. Something I wish I'd done more when my dog was a little younger.
Another great vid. Mr Dennis really is a true master of his art, but also an excellent teacher. Always pushing boundaries, today we are shown that you can teach an 'older' dog new tricks.... Thank you Mr Dennis and Team...
I just found this channel. I am so glad I found it …..must be karma. We got an 8 month old standard female poodle that knows very little . She didn’t have a name that we know of so we gave her one. Had her two months now and today she got out the door and took off. It took me about fifteen minutes and three yards away for me to catch her. We gotta come and get some evaluation and training . So happy your fairly close .
My golden will absolutely not tolerate that Malinois puppy! I've watched your videos in the background a hundred times since we brought this dog home as a puppy, no reaction. But man he thinks that Mal puppy is invading our house. It's hilarious.
when my dog doesnt get something or clearly doesn't understand what i am asking of her.....my first place to look is what i am doing wrong. it solves 70 percent of the problems
Stonnie - we had a GSP FOR 12 years. She was not a hunter. She was our house/ companion dog as we were nearing retirement., but my husband is an outdoorsman and exposed her to many experiences outdoors. I worked on the manners / calm training. We totally want another field dog, but are torn between another GSP and a Field lab. What is your best idea for us to make our decision? I’m considering working with Guiding Eyes Dogs, which are mostly Labs, to get more acclimated to Labs. What are your thoughts/ recommendations? I just discovered your channel this August , 2024. Love it!
This is just my opinion and a rant. I think the huge increase in reactive dogs, is related to the overwhelming increase in reward only training. With the increase in reactivity, “specialists” in reactivity have exploded onto the market. Some training facilities here actually have these “specialists” on staff when their ideology fails, which they then blame on the owner or the breed. Next they want another $500 to $ 5000 to fix it with reward only. You are told it could take years to resolve the problem. When that fails you are told the only thing left is management and a muzzle. You now have dog that cannot go anywhere, they are so reactive nobody else can look after them, so you can never leave and go for even just a weekend. Of course you cannot have guests over anymore because it will upset the dog. There is a trend to coddle dogs so much, they have no coping skills and are quivering puddles of fear and anxiety that lash out and bite.

I know! I don’t know exactly why, but it feels like crazy doodles are what happens when somebody takes two perfectly wonderful breeds and screws them up! Hahaaa. I mean get a lab or get a poodle, lol!
They probably do it because they don't want a poodle but the promise of a so-called "hypoallergenic" dog. They don't want a poodle or a small terrier variety (also sold as hypoallergenic).
See, no need to bully the dog. Maybe you need to teach others in your industry that dogs aren't robots. American trainers are notorious for it. Finally an intelligent one.👋👌❤
lol walk out most problems. I’m seeing that for sure 😂 my puppy can’t walk yet ( city and not all her shots) she nips like crazy but after twenty minutes of indoor fetch, she’s too tired to care about anything.
Watching the progression of these dogs in reform school is like a soap opera. Tune in next week to root for the educational success of the Belgian. The contrast between the hind quarter and the poodle crosses is interesting. The white poodle is very nice. The moment hard play gets in front of classroom training-bad consequences.
That's so great to see. As soon as another dog or person comes around, my dog doesn't even know I exist. Not frustrating at all. Damned frustrating, for sure.
Hey Stonnie, i'm curious. I'm assuming that, most likely, being in the dog business, you've been bitten a few times or have seen someone else bitten. Could you share what your immediate reaction was after a situation like this unfolded? I understand that you probably take precautionary measures to prevent such incidents, but mistakes do happen.
My college age daughter saw our new collie rescue laying on the floor near me and thought she could hug him like she did our previous old guy who had passed . He came up eating her face .she ended up with a bruised face and a Bite mark in her glasses. We all gathered around hugging and comforting her , he sat down immediately knowing he did something wrong . We did not do anything to him at all. Did not scold, did not pet or comfort him . We had no idea what to do but figured that was best .
