I have Bun/Creatinine ration under 10, is at nine, what can I do to raise it? I spent $100 on steaks yesterday. it’s been years since I stopped eating steak and red meat so I’m going to be checking into Apple bees a bit more.

To clarify his point on 1:40- (1) Post renal disease usually has a normal BUN:Cr ratio. *Sometimes, though, the BUN:Cr can increase because the obstruction can cause elevated BUN re-absorption in the kidney and Cr is not reabsorbed. Kidney stones *can* be a reason for obstruction and can cause post-renal disease.

How do you know if it’s post renal , renal or pre renal from urinalysis dip stick results ?

You can live with healthier life if you have one truly functioning kidney you don't need to worry about because when one of our kidneys loses its function the remaining one makes what we call "compensatory function" it is enlarged physiologically by the body to double and cover the task of the lost one( physiological hyperplasia ).

What if your creatine is high, but your ratio is normal?

I think that would mean hypoperfusion to the kidneys

Haven't you heard of people who have donated a kidney to maybe a sibling and both donor and patient have only 1 kidney now? As the other guy said. Sepsis is not the same as filtering metabolites.

@GWeis314 If your mother was septic then she had a bacterial infection. In her case, the blockage complicated the infection by allowing the bacteria to proliferate to the point where they spread back into the general circulation since that was the only place for them to go rather than out the urinary tract. He is not talking about infection; he is talking about the kidneys maintaining a normal ratio of metabolites. One healthy kidney can maintain a normal ratio of metabolites.

I have a hard time believing this. My mother had a blockage of a renal tubial and she ended up septic and had subsequent MI and other major issues. Regardless of the limited scope of the blockage, the effectiveness of one functioning kidney maintaining physiological homeostasis is questionable.

Which could've been because of other causes related to the process.
