In this video, you will understand the terms Step, Increment, Attempt, Iteration, and Frame in Abaqus.
Long story short, the Step means the analysis procedure you specify to solve the problem. Each step can be broken into smaller parts which are called increments. The increments at which you select results to be written to the output database file are called “frames”.
Watch the video till the end to better understand these terms and also, "Attempt" and "Iteration".

Thanks so much for this video. Please I wish to understand want can make someone to define many steps.

You can define as many steps as you need for your simulation if it is logical in the simulation; you can do this using a python script which as so happens you can find an example of it in the videos of this package: caeassistant.com/product/python-scripting-in-abaqus-part1/ caeassistant.com/product/python-scripting-in-abaqus-part-2/

Thank you for these info I have a question What is the meaning of time period in step module of abaqus explicit
@caeassistant7734
@caeassistant7734 Год назад
Hello, thank you for your compliment. The time period in Abaqus explicit means the physical time of your analysis. It determines how long your analysis want to simulate. For example impact simulation with step time equal 3 means that 3 seconds of the process will be simulated.

how to get more frames? or on what feature does the number of frames depend on?
@caeassistant7734
@caeassistant7734 Год назад
In the Step module, go to the Field Output manager window, and select whatever Frequency option you want to set the frames. The max number of frames in an analysis can be number of increments, but due to saving storage memory, you can request fewer frames. You can see the article in the description (section 3 of the article) to understand this.

I have problem, I am modelling a 3 point bending system. I need to applu a boundary condition of 200 mm on the centre. The displacement is at 5 mm/min. Now I am not getting what values do i need to put in Time period, Initial, Minimum and maximum increments. Can you please explain me that?

It's 20 mm and not 200

Hello, thank you for your comment. The question you have asked is quite specific and would require some time to thoroughly review your file. Unfortunately, I can only provide answers to general questions here. However, I recommend referring to the following article for more information on your topic: caeassistant.com/blog/abaqus-step-increment-iteration/ Alternatively, you can visit our website and submit your question there to receive consultancy from one of our expert consultants.
