www.cornerstoneclinic.ca - Want to have a better understanding of Suicide? Then watch this video by Halifax Psychologist, Brad Peters.
This video is the second part of a two-part exploration into the topic of suicide. The first video can be found here: • Understanding Suicide ...
In this video I offer some opinions on what is wrong with mainstream approaches to dealing with the problem of suicide. I then make some suggestions for what we can do to support someone who is feeling suicidal.

Society we live in will never understand and very little help is given to give people with mental illness and suicidal thoughts . Let's not kid ourselves. Who will take 5heir own life if compassion and understanding is given?

I really enjoyed how this Therapist explained how to support people suffering with suicidal ideations and that we should not be afraid to have the conversations with those we care about.

Why would you think you're entitled to lock someone up when they want to take their own life? It's disgusting. It's the flip-side to killing someone who wants to live.

I really like the way this Therapist/Psychologist spoke and gave explanations. His language, tone, manner, expressions......... all was good and gave me a very good Insight or knowledge. Very good information. Thank you.

It is all about insurance that require diagnosis in order to insure that counelor gets paid. Insurance does not care about empathetic listening skills.

Yes I got a scare like that last week. First wanted to take me there then when I got defenses up told me was going to ring the police. Well did react to that. First whom you go to in crisis I would sooner die then end up in their hands ever again. I don't take medication as have low tolerance to it been on that round about. I went through the system as a child no fault of my own I can't go to one of those places it would be the end of me. Everyone knows that but still threaten to do to me anyway. I don't trust anyone that walks this earth given my experiences it is understandable. This doesn't help it just makes me shut down and when I get to the critical point I am less likely to ask for help. I don't have anyone. Fear is not a way of helping me it only makes me worse. I wouldn't have survived what did I spent a lifetime living in fear I don't need it now. I like how you explain it all. I have noticed given I have been passed around like some unwanted parcel. That first they listen but the longer they do the job and if they end up with bigger work load as newbies always get the extra load. They stop listening and sound more like a text book. They think you can't think logically I beg to differ on that score.

I understand not trusting people at all. There’s nobody who really listens to me, they just say it’s temporary and focus on trying to change things but things are out of my control and nobody helps for real

Or they say it’s all about loving yourself and using positive thinking/affirmations.. sorry but I can read a thousand affirmations a day and not believe them. I can also try to think positively, but when you are a logical thinker and you feel like life is not worth living, trying to think positive just feels like you’re bullshitting to yourself.

What is an appropriate response if the answer to the question of why they haven't tried is that they can't guarantee a successful outcome?

Yeah, but why are they depressed? Chronic underemployment and low pay? If so, then they don’t need therapy or medicine; they need help getting a better job with better pay. Maybe they aren’t depressed but rather hopeless over the chronic underemployment and low pay. Maybe they are suicidal from powerlessness and hopelessness over their chronic underemployment and low pay. No depression necessary. I think psychology is very misguided and obsessed with depression. Suicide can happen without any sign of depression.

Stefan Nikola powerlessness from battling for your kids to get them free from an abusive father but CPS is a joke and so are the courts

I liked these videos, I think you are spot on. However psyciatrists and therapists are not magicians, so I am not sure why you and so many others talk like you are something above the general population, indirectly. Being a human filled with empathy, understanding and being a listener is something humans is born with or teached to be - by their parents. So there is tons of good therapists and psyciatrists out there, educated or not.
