We've had Premium for a year and absolutely love it! We're about to share content to thousands of users in an ISV situation as well as several hundred internal users.
Just sending a quick shout out to you guys - this channel has been an incredible resource that has helped me navigate Power BI and become extremely proficient in it in a short amount of time for work. Now I have the luxury/curse of being the go-to for everyone for all things reporting. ;)
Hi, I think that developers and partners must have a "premium free" license for studies and tests. It´s very hard become a Premium Expert only by videos. And the cost is huge for a small company or a freelancer to buy. Hugs from Brazil !
Agreed. I recently submitted the idea that perhaps Microsoft could offer at least a sandbox environment to learn Power BI Premium features, similar to what they offer in their Azure learning tracks. You can vote here: ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/40718386-microsoft-learn-sandbox-for-power-bi-premium
Totally get where you are coming from. I have zero control over that. Best I can say is to work with Microsoft reps and also vote the ideas item up that Martin commented on that. Of note, outside of the sharing and collaboration, an A SKU does let you play around with most aspects for targeted learning. It's not a complete answer, but it does potentially avoid a full commitment to a P SKU. I also get that that doesn't solve the larger problem. I know the Partner and MVP community has had many discussions about this point.
Here in Brazil, its costs more than 200 thousand reais (1 dolar => 5 reais), that is too expensive for the most of the companies here. But in my last job, we need to buy it because of the refresh quantity (8 on pro, 48 on premium), the embedded capacity and the sharing with non-pro users. And the cost we split around the clients that are using it.
Hi, Could you make a video for the Goals section which was recently launched? I am using it and have so many doubts. I'd really appreciate it if you could make it and let us know how to 1. Backdate and the see the progress from the data existing. 2. Add multiple owners/group into the Goal/Subgoals
Very nice explanation on Power BI Premium. Much required. I believe Free license is applicable only when workspace is backed with Premium capacity. Hope my understanding is correct.
Yes, but only if users are assigned Viewer permissions. Anything elevated will trigger a notification that they need a pro license when they attempt to access content. Got tripped up by this last week.
Hi Adam, I am really intrigued with Power BI and I want to pursue the DA 100 Analysing Data with Power BI from Microsoft. How do I prepare for it. What's the best way... Thanks in advance. Love what you and Patrick are doing.. Great job..
I know there is a Learn course that will be available soon targeted for the DA-100. That will be the first resource for it. From that, you can get a feel for the areas you feel that you aren't the strongest on and then hit up videos/blogs/books to supplement those areas.
Can you please do a video on implementing ISV scenario in both Embedded and Power bi premium..We actually implemented it using it using embedded but i do want to know we did everything correct or not?
Thank you for the awesome video… Could you help me with the one question? Assumption: I decide to buy Premium P1 SKU for all of my employees, and also, I need to buy three additional PRO licenses for developers (two of these will be in charge for the admin roles and one for the designer). What is my total model size capacity? 25GB + 1*3 GB = 28GB and the Designer will have 26GB on the Cloud? For the better performance can I combinate Power BI capacity P1 SKU and Premium Per User, what will be my total model capacity in that case 25GB + 3*10 = 75GB
thanks for explaining! pro and premium is so hard to understand. If im a report builder and the account admin owner can I use the same email address for the Premium account as well as Pro account in order to publish are report and link it to the dataset that is published using the Premium account? If I use the same email address is there a discount for having both subscriptions or just have to pay for both? thanks!
What about Deployment Pipelines? To me, that would be one of the best features. Right now I have to manage (manually) 3 workspaces for BI Team, Testing Team and of course the LIVE workspace. I wish that will become part of the Pro license :)
Could you do a video on how to migrate a current setup of AAS with power bi embedded into the new premium world? How would a data model in AAS move to a dataset in PBI premium? This is something my company will need to do as our embedded approach with a live connection doesn't support language translations annoyingly.
@@GuyInACube Micro$oft being greedy. We have about 200 users with Power BI Pro licenses and M365 Business Premium. The price jump to get Pro (Microsoft 365 E5) is nearly double the cost. And getting a P1, costs TWICE as much. They need to either included it in E3 or give companies the option to get premium at a lower cost. 5-6k comes to a total which is almsot what we pay for ALL are Azure VM, SQL databases and our M365 licenes!!!
at 7m30s it is mentioned that a P-sku is needed for sharing with free users. I did publish an app through the premium workspace backed by an A-Sku and the free user could access its contents. is that expected behaviour? apps from a-sku can be shared with free users, though the full workspace can't?
Hi, so if all the computation is done in Databricks and the reports and dashboards are published on premium PBI, is this published data still using a lot of capacity?? Thanks
I'm currently working with PBI Pro license. But number of end users (report consumer) within the org keep increasing. It's getting costlier to buy pro license for all users. Hence, I'm about to suggest IT dept to procure PBI premium capacity (i believe it's capped by storage capacity and not by number of users. Correct me if i'm wrong). Now my query is if the workspace is within premium capacity and I embed report on MS Teams, do the Team members still need to log in to Power BI account to view content? If so then how will they log in without pro license as free sign in is disabled by my org, for security purpose.
Great scenario for Premium. In your MS Teams embed scenario, if the workspace is backed by Premium, the Teams users will not need a pro license to consume the embedded report. They will still need at least a Free license, and you will also need to control general access to the report (outside of licensing). So, it would need to be shared with them, or access control with like a security group.
@@GuyInACube Thanks. Is this free license same as free log in or is it separate license that comes free with Premium Capacity. Because as i mentioned, my org does not allow free log in for security reason.
if we buy premium license do we still need to buy pro user to create report and publish it on because you say it is not user licensing then how we access the premium power bi with power bi desktop plz tell
Hi guys! Please help. I can't log in to power bi. community. I try to log in, the page simply updates. Are there any other support contacts for developers?
Hi, How to arrange month and year by calendar date in x-axis for bar chart. Problem is when I add date and value to bar chart, it is sorting by alphabetical like jan19, jan20, feb19, feb20 ..... How to get axis like jan19.....dec19 followed by jan20 ....
2 possible ways you can try. 1) Try sorting your Month Year column by the number date eg (Jan19 by 201901, Feb19 by 201902...) 2) If what you have is a date hierarchy, go into the format pane and change for the X axis the type from Categorical to Continuous. Hope it helps!
The costs of Premium are just too high for smaller organisations to get over. It probably explains why the adoption rate for Power BI is highest in countries where businesses tend to have smaller staff numbers as multi Pro licenses are more affordable than Power BI Premium or Tableau's subscriptions. That being said, IMHO I think the subscription plan for Power BI is not optimal. "Free" shouldn't be free, this should be a Power BI consumer license with a nominal fee, but not as high as Tableau's, Pro is about where it should be and Premium should be reduced to be viable for companies with smaller staff numbers. At the moment, Premium v Pro break-even cuts in at around 50ish staff, lowering the break-even point to around 30 will attract a far bigger market... IMHO. Also, and it's been mentioned already but, as a Power BI Developer, it's difficult to provide support to a Premium site when your experience is only in Pro.
@@pabeader1941 you're correct, my bad. I just remember doing the exercise some time ago with a version of premium that could be turned on/off and these were the figures I remember. I don't think that facility is available any longer?
Please, please, please... Tell the Power BI premium team to cut their pricing by half or come up with another pricing model, if they want the same businesses to jump into the mix and try to beat Tableau, Apache's Project Pinot (free) and AWS's competing solutions...! We need a pricing model for small organizations that heavily depends on BI... (not for large organizations with 10,000 users where saving the Power Bi desktop pricing makes sense).
@@GuyInACube Yes, but aren't you their top "influencer"? :) Go ahead, influence them on a much better pricing model for the thousands of small business who can't afford it but would benefit from it. As Satya said, "empower people to do more"... we would love to do more, but can't afford your tools to do so...
Arrggghhh I think you may have just showed me a way to solve an issue I've been having for a while.... the new app experience, I've been wanting to share these using teams as the distribution method, however end users are always prompted that they need a pro licence, when i watched this video I seen you had the app on dedicated capacity.... I cant find this setting anywhere is this limited to certain SKU's we have an EM1 SKU?
To get the diamond next to your workspace and App, the workspace needs to be assigned to a Premium Capacity. For your scenario of embedding in Teams, and users being able to access them without a Pro license, you can have an EM or P SKU for that. docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/developer/embedded/embedded-capacity#capacity-and-skus
@@GuyInACube thanks for replying, the workspace which the app is in has a diamond next to it, but this hasn't been applied to the app which is in the workspace? is there something additional I need to do to get the workspace added to the premium capacity?
It's 10 GB of storage space, but your size for a single dataset is limited to 1GB for non-Premium (Pro/Free). To get a single dataset over 1GB, it has to be backed by Premium.
