Dima Shamsedine, PhD student, RWTH Aachen University, presents "Understanding the Failure Mechanism of Non-Persistent Discontinuities Using 3D-Printed Synthetic Rock Masses."
Speaker Bio: Dima Shamsedine has a diploma in Civil, Hydraulics and Environmental Engineering. Her Master's thesis in France focused on investigating the failure mechanism of rock-concrete interfaces. Supervised by Dr. Pooya Hamdi and Prof. Florian Amann, her current PhD project focuses on studying the failure mechanism of rock masses containing non-persistent discontinuities. To do this, she is performing several laboratory tests on 3D printed rock analogs and uses the Finite Discrete Element approach to model their behavior. She will explain more about the project in the presentation and present some of her results.
