I like the last painting the best. But the scream and the pope one can remind me of how I feel. And the woman on the bicycle reminds me of someone I know, not because of how she looks, but rather, about how she emotes.
Cubism is a kind of Expressionism, but it sort of came before (1907) but falls under that general umbrella. Just as Fauvism can too. But it's so specific it can be called out on it's own.
Wow.. I'm really unable to see any emotions in those artworks... Always struggled with understanding expressionism. "The scream" by Edvard Munch seems more clear now, once you added context (impending war, feeling of something coming/happening etc). I feel like a blind person trying to imagine a sunset after hearing a description fml
Van Gogh inspired the expressionists, he started using color to represent emotions rather than doing the "real" colors... had he lived longer, I believe he could have done more. But for the sake of education, and accuracy, he is not an expressionist. This is true of Édouard Manet who inspired the Impressionists... but he was not an impressionist himself. There are no clear-cut lines between styles, just slow evolutions.
If it looked like an impressionistic painting with the wrong colors, then it would be Fauvism. To be completely fair though, it truly belongs to the "Der Blaue Reiter" school of art, which is a subset of Expressionism. (Just as Cubism is a kind of Expressionism) but for the sake of student learning and simplification, this works on a high school level.
