Tom, Great listening to Dr. Russ Carpenter. I have found that barometric pressure definitely has a huge impact on trout and their feeding behavior. Sounds like Dr. Carpenter grew up in the same country that I did. Great trout country when we had water. One of these days I might run into you again on some trout stream in Montana or possibly a flat in the Bahamas. Fantastic content!

Tom, I don't fly fish but because of how much I've learned from you in your videos, I've completely changed my technique and approach to reading water using my spin rods. I now nymph fish, swing streamers and understand much more about depth adjustment and picking flies. I'm still getting used to this style, but I'm hooked.

I heard someone talk about fishing Lee's Ferry and mentioned "surface rolling" trout behavior in the late afternoon or early evening. One possibility might be that this is a tailwater and during the evenings and night, the flows are lower as the demand for electricity is lower. As the water flows are reduced, scuds are trapped on the rocks and exposed gravel, and they die. Later in the afternoon, as the flows increase with the demand for electricity, the rising water levels flush the now orange color clumps of dead scuds into the river and they are either floating or in the surface film. They are like candy for trout and can be partially predicted in different portions of the river above the ferry as flows increase. JMHO

I listened to Dr. Russ Carpenter 2xs about the moon effect. Do you have an opinion of fishing effectivness all night under different phases of the moon

The older I get my expectations of what will happen when fishing are less and less and my enjoyment levels are much higher. I used to hope to catch as many big fish as possible. Now I just hope to catch a fish no matter how big or small and if the fish aren’t playing I like to take a little while to sit on the bank enjoying nature and enjoying a beer. Once I start fishing again I am usually a lot more relaxed focused and I can usually find a hungry fish. I believe that if I am just grinding and grinding trying to catch a fish I start making small mistakes that taking a break relaxing will usually mitigate

I love this podcast subject matter, but I’m still confused about full moons and feeding trout. I get the full moon affects The insect action but is that causing the fish to feed more on them during a full moon, therefore not feeding as much during the following day?

While watching people catch big fish is fun! It was so nice to actually listen to something educational about fly fishing. Thank you!!

I would love to know if trout cna HEAR or FEEL my line going through my guides!! I can hear a zipping sound as I strip line back especially while streamer fishing! I'm convinced that trout hear this and shy away from food....

.I do not fish, but merely testing waters. Great content and great materials. I do not fish, but merely testing waters. God.... all these people and their technical questions are so offputting. Takes the joy out of the whole hobby. Some people really need to visit other countries to get out of their head. Go to China and see how people carrying pots on their heads or transporting tens of them in a small bike or Bangladesh where people carrying ton of bricks on their head. Life is not all about technique. Probably will return to this podcast once I seriously start considering angling a hobby.
