Focus on two dogs in left corner, what are they doing in class?

Brilliant vid. I wonder if I can get your thoughts on this? I am singing g 2 songs by Elvis. Hurt. And American trilogy. Mainly the last "on" in trilogy is hard and I think you can tell in hurt, which are the hard words😂. What do you think the mods are?

Hey Sterling. Thank you for these vocal lessons. They’re super helpful, especially for us baritones. What is the name of that song playing in your intro. I’ve noticed it in some of your other videos and I would love to hear the whole song. Is it available for download?

Thanks for the kind words Dan. I change up the song quite a bit but the one you’re referring to is So Very Divine by my one band Vagus Nerve. 😊

So I’ve been curious about this in regards to stylistic preferences. Can NOT most find vowels in a way over fatigue the voice and therefore in time hurt the vocal cords? May be unrelated but I was looking into different schools if thought and how some don’t like SLS and say many of those singers develop issues over time and then I think of my own teacher who was an opera style teacher and it seemed the approach was very different. I don’t get why some people say other styles will hurt the voice long term, why is this so confusing for people? No one is encouraging to overwork the vocal folds, so is what causes long term damage simply technique that indirectly overworks the vocal folds somehow? I’m trying to understand this because I’d like to work on my final preference. When I took my lessons my teacher wanted a very specific approach which didn’t produce a tone I liked , I feel like on my own Iv probably stumbled onto SLS type of approaches, I remember the approach with my teacher always made me crack and miss notes due to mouth positions she had me do, she wanted everything huge and as open as possible but it doesn’t always suit my style realistically. Even with her style she’d push me till my cords gave out and just air came out with no good cord closure , and I suspect she was pushing me too hard frankly and I try not to get mad s out it. So it makes me question what is safe technique? Sold day of it doesn’t hurt it’s ok like CVT but that seems wrong otherwise we wouldn’t have so many singers use the same technique only to have to switch to different teachers over time. Or people say bon jovi used bad technique for decades and finally it caught up with him. This confuses me, how does one then identify bad technique that will lose your voice over time ?

All I ever hear about is stories of people that had bad voice teachers. There surprisingly aren’t many good voice teachers. It seems like people either learn one very specific way and only know how to teach that or they simply don’t know how to translate and breakdown how to do things well. In terms of vocal health, it’s the same as teachers. No one really knows and if they think they do there’s plenty of people out there defying their logic night after night. There’s so many factors to take into account and people don’t always lose their voice because of bad technique. For example I lost my range and singing voice for about five years and it happened when I quit music and stopped singing. Figure that one out. Just like anything physical in life, it’s better to stop approaching things with fear of the future and align with your body and practice. Pay attention to when things feel good and sustainable and when they don’t. If you were fortunate enough to have a successful music career for 30 or 40 years and then your voice suddenly changes, you should be so lucky. That’s amazing. Life changes. Our bodies change. These things happen. It doesn’t always mean someone did everything “wrong”.

Great video, however, I've turned the dogs humping into a drinking game and now I'm hammered.

I've never understood how the vowel modification makes this different mechanism work. Things change that aren't just a vowel change?
@SterlingRJackson
@SterlingRJackson Год назад
It’s mostly around isolating the muscles that are working and relaxing the ones that aren’t. It’s about getting out of the jaw and the neck mostly 😬
