I find it interesting that the whole song is built upon the first verse of the original Megalovania, and never progresses; it just keeps looping with different alterations here and there. This speaks volumes about how Dust!Sans feels trapped and tormented through the continuous resets and Genocide runs, and how he can never move on - never accepting your purgatory as a way of life, but begrudgingly having to endure through it... Unless he kills you.

*You have reset. For the hundredth time, you completed a Genocide run. You loved seeing them all turn to dust. Chara has forgotten her morality, killing everything along with you. Only this time, instead of being greeted by Flowey and Toriel, there is only a thin layer of dust coating the ground. You hear the sounds of Flowey crying, in Asriel's voice. Just like each time you cut him to dust. He hears you, hears you fall. The sounds of crying disappear, instead a small shriek reaches your ears and the sound of tunneling is heard. You decide to press on. The ruins is also coated with dust, more and more the further you proceed. No Froggits or Whimsuns are seen or heard. This must be their dust. It coats the ground, giving you a feeling of satisfaction. However, this feeling is mixed with something new. A sense of fear. As you press on through the ruins, you hear sounds. Or so you think. The dust is so thick beneath your feet that it crunches as you step. A wild, dead smile comes onto your face. Chara laughs maniacally. *Where Toriel's home normally is, there is nothing but ash. Black, charred pieces of furniture and wood scatter in the area you knew so well. The black is intermittent with the white dust of monsters fallen long before you arrived. Something shiny glints in the mysterious light now being cast over the place. You pick it up, it is the Toy Knife. You throw your stick behind you. As you step over the ruins of Toriel's home, a terrifying melody begins to play. As you turn around, Sans appears for only a moment, his hood over his head and a purple light in his eyes rather than blue. As you blink, the figure disappears and the music ebbs away. You continue on, walking through the hole blasted in the ruins where the door used to be. The camera in the bushes is half melted, as is the snow around the door. You and Chara have become silent. Something is not right. What happened to the Underground? You were supposed to be the one to destroy it. Who got here before you? *The Snowdin forest is barely standing. Every tree that used to be lush with pine needles are now almost burnt-looking. As if they've withered up and died. Continuing your trek, you notice that the gateway that Papyrus made is fixed. Using the knife, you kick out as many bars as you need to leave. Walking through it, you hear the sound of footsteps behind you. Every time you look back, however, nobody is there. Something is truly wrong here. You reach the place where the conveniently shaped lamp is meant to be. There's pieces of ceramic everywhere, and the lampshade has been placed upon a dummy with Papyrus' face drawn on the front of the shade, as if someone had tried to recreate the skeleton. The dummy has a huge tear in the back. You notice something solid in the snow. It's pure white. You turn it around, and jump back in suprise. It is Papyrus' lifeless skull. It seems like someone killed him, but couldn't bring themselves to crush his head. You scoff at the idea. They were weak. Chara smiles again, the black fluid dripping from her eyes. Just then, someone speaks behind you. *Hello, human. *Don't you know how to greet a new pal? *You turn around, knowing who it is, more relieved to see him than you would ever like to admit to yourself. *He is not the same. *Both eyes glow red, one has a purple aura around it. *His hood is up. *Suddenly, Gaster Blasters appear all around you and fire. *This is not the place you know. He is not who you know. He grew tired of your antics. *He was the one who got here first.

I cannot explain how much Nostalgia this brings me, quarantine was amazing. It wasn’t the time that I found out about Undertale but the time I had so much time to myself and I got into Undertale and it’s AUs heavily and Essentially having a whole Undertale phase (which I enjoyed don’t get me wrong). There was nothing like getting off from Online school and then playing some Roblox Undertale games, that was the life, specifically Undertale Last Corridor, Test Place, and Undertale Judgement Day. The whole reason I started getting into AU stuff was legit because I found Undertale Last Corridor in like mid 2020, then slowly it slowly started getting me hooked to rhe product, and going beyond just Roblox Undertale games, There were some other games too, but I forgot about those. But those were the way to go. Also AU Content like Glitchtale was a banger back then, I was always rooting for Betty lmao I remember when I finally got my hands on Undertale in Xbox Game Pass back in mid 2021 and ran a True pacifist route, I legit shed some tears because that is some strong stuff, the ost, the characters, the fact that you could have killed everyone but you didn’t, and the credits. Even though I knew how everything played out, I felt like I was in the moment, for the Omega Flowey fight, I struggled alot with Asgore and The Asriel fight and his ost. Phenomenal game, thank you Toby. Oh man Dusttale, my absolute favorite AU, from when I found out about it back in 2020, how Sans turned into a murderer, got LV. Wears his hood with different eyes, all of it sucked me in and got me hooked to the AU and the Character. Don’t even get me started on the fangame too, absolute cinema, it’s so well made. Don’t forget about the art used for this video too, it’s amazing, I love the detail, Sans’ jacket, his eyes, the bones in the background, phenomenal. The murder has been one of my favorite AU themes, but I didn’t recognize just how phenomenal this theme really is until a few months ago when listening to it fully for the first time in a while. The dark vibe from the song, that piano in the back, that soft beat in the back at 0:42, 1:27 and 1:41, the slow and low beat at 1:52, the way it starts back up at 2:01, the 2:11 and 2:25 part. The soft piano at 2:34…its insane how underrated this megalo is, I’m glad this was the definitive theme for Dust back in the day before everything else because this theme deserves it. Definitely gives Dusttale justice. I miss those times, from going to the Supermarket with my Dad and Grandma then coming home to play some ULC in 2020 or UJD in 2021, listening to and discovering Undertale and AU themes, roleplaying in discord Undertale servers, (yes, something I also used to do) watching Undertale Gacha content (yes im guilty of this, that shit used to hit, especially the reaction to animations like that Christmas party AU thing and AU fights like Last Breath, Disbelief Papyrus and Glitchtale), Staying up extremely late on my phone watching said content, I had to always charge my phone fully beforehand because I had a LG Stylo Plus 4 that was passed down to me back in 2019, and the battery life was completely ass so you had to make the most of it and wouldn’t charge unless you had it in a specific place. All around, amazing year, amazing time to be alive. 2020-2021, never forget. So much time has passed, so quickly too, 2021 was just yesterday and now it’s 3 years ago, time files man.

Read up a bit on this and I quite like the story: Sans sees that their is no other way to stop Chara than to gain LV and EXP in order to become more powerful than her, and gain the ability to finally kill her. Thus, the more he kills - like he once said - the more he is able to distance himself, and the less it hurts him to hurt others. So, his morals are completely changed. As represented by his eye, instead of displaying justice and patience, he now has determination and perseverance: the determination to not stop (like Chara/Frisk) till he has killed every single monster, and the perseverance to get through killing all of his old friends, including his beloved brother. He has the ability to destroy SAVE points, according to the AU wiki, in order to impede Frisk's/Chara's path to destroying the universe, and, although his past self cries out to stop this madness, the insane, new part of himself completely overrules it when he convinces himself there is no other way to save the world. However, in the end, he is ending the world quicker. He only just realizes this as he kills Papyrus, but by now he has satisfied that growing part of him so much that he forgets about morals and his past is completely destroyed. He seeks out Frisk and kills her, only to find that he 'missed' Chara as she materializes in front of him, and he proceeds to attempt to kill her over and over and over, having finally completely lost it. If you think about it, this is what can happen in real life. When people realize somebody who is evil and unreasonable cannot be stopped they turn to war -- killing hundreds and thousands of possibly innocent or broken people -- in order to stop an evil. But, the truth is, the person who has decided to sacrifice millions in order to destroy said 'evil' has turned into the worst evil there is. Thus, we can determine that after Sans possibly manages to rid the timeline of Chara, he is stuck like he is in every other universe after Genocide: Alone. The last one standing. I'm wondering what he would do next. Due to his determination; would he reset and continue killing and resetting? Would he end his own life out of sheer insanity and loneliness? Would he travel to other universes? I'm guessing suicide seeing as his brother's ghost haunts him constantly, everyone he once loved is dead, AND he is stuck with the madness in his skull.

Real talk, this is really well made. It still gives me chills so long after playing it. The emotion and background can really be felt in every aspect of this song. Well done!

Instead of a madness and scary vibe, I get a depressive sort of feeling. Sans killed everyone, even his own kinfolk which was Papyrus. He had to kill them, forgetting his actual meaning and killing everyone he knows to defeat Chara. He probably didn’t want it, no one would’ve if only Frisk didn’t reset and try the genocide route, Chara taking over, and killing everyone many times. I feel extremely sad and worried about this sans for some reason, causin the megalovania for me to sound depressive and sad. What’s your reason if you feel a depressive feeling for this megalovania?

lots of people think murdertale / dusttale is sad, epic, or overwhelming but i find it quite frightening. imagine the entire underground having to evacuate, alarms blaring, monsters terrified, screaming, all because one guy who’s usually lazy, easy-going and chill has gone psycho and decided to murder everyone, including his friends and own brother. horrifying.

*You look around. *Dust coats the ground. The walls. The cavernous ceiling. It even coats the air. *But you never felt the cool edge of metal under your hand. You never felt the cool blood running down your arm. You never saw the white souls shatter into fragments carried by the wind. You never tasted the endless fear that seemed to plague the Underground. *It was just empty. Empty Empty Empty *Somehow... although claim to have done nothing... *I* *T* *I* *S* *S* *T* *I* *L* *L* *Y* *O* *U* *R* *F* *A* *U* *L* *T* *Get ready for the final battle

Chara: hehe i will kill everyone Sans: *I'm about to do whats called a pro-gamer move*

*As yet again you’ve completed a genocide route feeling nothing for the pathetic monsters as you kill them over and over again, but yet this time is different, all of the underground is coated with dust and you wonder where everyone went, you soon see Sans talking to Toriel, and then all of a sudden, he takes out his knife and brutally kills her. You and Chara are confused but yet amused to see Toriel turn to dust. And then Sans kills papyrus. But he gaster blasted him to oblivion and all that remains is his skull. You think back to he normal genocide route of how his skull still remained. But as you catch up to him. You realize he’s gone mad and nothing will stop him from killing everyone and you now finally realize *Sans wasn’t the final boss battle......YOU were the final boss battle* And yet as you gaze upon Sans new look, you realize that you have created this never ending madness.

8 years later and I STILL have yet to find a single other Murder theme that fits better than this. . . Absolutely goated.
