Nah, I've heard of at least one before. Just Shapes and Beats has one where the developer just talks to the pirate player. Mentions how if they still don't feel like paying, they could at least spread the word or something.
Normal Anti-Piracy Screens: Hey, this is wrong, please don't continue Fanmade Anti-Piracy Screens: I AM APPROXIMATELY 100 METRES FROM YOUR LOCATION *start running*
Probably one of the most wholesome anti-piracy screen I've ever seen, you'd think Flowey would scare or insult you for piracy, considering that those would be par for the course with him, but he actually just lectures you about how Toby put a lot of effort into the game, and even shows you where to get the regular version.
*Undertale spoilers below* Yeah, it feels like Flowey switched to his kinder Asriel persona for this message, almost as if we're talking to his post-Pacifist iteration.
flowey dropping his usual "scare the player shitless" act to gently lecture you on how piracy harms creators is an odd but welcome subversion of my expectations
Just to let you all know, and the devs told me this themselves when I initially tried using a pirated version (cause I didn’t want to buy UT twice) but there are actual coding differences in pirated versions of Undertale that would prevent the mod from working properly which is why they have this screen in the first place.
you saying you need steams DRM online validation authkey whatevers for undertale to function correctly? fat chance, it's a game made in gamemaker studio, not half life 3 developed for the source 2 engine/
Simple, it's post pacifist Flowey. Y'know, "peace and prosperity will rule across the land", "I can't do that anymore", "you'll need to erase my memories too" Flowey
As Hakita, creator of ULTRAKILL once said: "You should support indies if you can, but culture shouldn't exist only for those who can afford it. ULTRAKILL wouldn't exist if I hadn't had easy access to movies, music and games growing up.If you don't have money, you can support via word of mouth."
If it was me, I would just try my best to circumvent the anti piracy screen. After all, there's something that is triggering it, and if it's removed, you're set.
This is probably one of the best projects that the Undertale community has made and I really would want to play it cause all the new textures, music, npcs and all the unused content reproduced for this version is absolutely gorgeous I just find it a shame that I would not be able to play just because I bought it on the switch version, and I really can't afford to bought it again on PC It would be so cool if the developers of this mod could find a way to know if you have a copie of the game in console and pass the anti-paracy screen, until then I'm going to try to save money so I could purchase the game again cause this mod is really worth it :D
You know, flowey would be the last being I expect to not scare you in an anti-piracy screen. This is the first time I've seen flowey portrayed as genuinely caring for something.
Friendly reminder: If an anti-piracy screen ever gives you an impossible task to complete, don't use a Auto clicker to complete it. You don't want to know what comes next...
You know what the best part is? This makes you think of Flowey as the character to guide you into the right path so if you do play the game you touch the pellets
ok that's actually good. if your save file is corrupted OR you pirate it the game gets dog checked (toby fox sleeping replaces the whole game) and it isn't that harsh because the creators know that you can accidentally get a forfeit copy. good job devs
i dont think the sleeping toby fox is because of piracy, i used a pirated version 2 times and didnt get the toby fox sleeping (and no i didnt use them to play, i tried enabling debug mode on them, and only after i failed i realised that you can only enable debug mode on the steam version, also i bought the game)
@@masterblaster38 there is no coding difference between the pirated version and the normal version, I played the mod while having a "cracked'' version of the game, undertale doesn't have dmr, straight up ripped from gog.
@@masterblaster38 well you do need to have the newest version wich is 1.08 but that's pretty much it, if you are downloading it from anywhere(pirating it) it's either the gog version wich is just a straight up copy of the original game from gog(no protection) or the steam version and it always comes with the crack preapplied or you just paste it in the game files
I don't think it's weird for Flowey to be the one doing it. He is the fourth wall-breaker of the cast (Sans more leans on it than full-on breaks it, he has only limited awareness). It's more surprising that he doesn't insult or mock you for it.
Piracy isnt as comparable as possessing CP. The hours toby fox put into the game dont matter if we consider the piracy screen comes from a mod made by an awful person.
Some folks see pirating as this big ol boogeyman that only bad bad people do to steal and be bad!! Meanwhile personally i like to see it as a resource, i've found some hidden gems and some of my favorite games of all time through piracy, that i wouldnt find otherwise if i were buying games legitimately. I use piracy as a way to see if i can even run a game on my device before i buy it, or if its even something worth buying in the first place, and many of the hidden gems of games i find, pirate, and enjoy i do end up buying because i want to support the devs. In the case of Undertale, obviously it's worth buying, and i'm working personally on buying it as soon as i have some spare funds again. But yall entitled asses in the comments really gotta pipe down about how cheap 10 bucks is. It's a cheap game, it's definitely worth it, still doesnt mean yall get to act as a moral beacon against people who pirate. You dont know anyone's living situation, there can be pretty major differences between countries and how much 10 usd translates into their currency. Props to the devs for making sure their game can't be pirated, or well, not as easily, and having a lil piracy screen easter egg of sorts. It sucks for me and anyone else who cant experience and enjoy their mod as a result, and i will admit, i am in fact upset and a bit angry with this fact, but whatever, not much one can do.
Even worse with some of us who don't live in Europe, CANZUK or the US. $10 USD is an hour's work for you? Cool, some of us live in countries where that's a DAY, even more. Can't afford to pay that for a game, we need fucking food and rent. For me seeing this just made me say "fuck the mod", immediately lost respect for it, don't even wanna finish watching Merg's playthrough of it now.
@@nekajuii over here an average job will give ya about $10 for 3 hours of work, and due to my current job hunting situation, that is also just not an expense i can spare, im not gonna watch anyone play the mod, nor am i gonna be angry at the devs, im just gonna forget about the mod and not share it around as if i never found out about it tobegin with
@@nekajuii that's a bit intense... like I understand it sucks for you but... like chill toby DID put in alot of work and for you to get angry that a fan asked you to politely stop pirating is a bit intense
I'm aware that this is from a mod, and that Undertale doesn't have any legitimate anti-piracy screens, but... Has Toby Fox ever mentioned anything about what he thinks of people pirating his game? 🤔
I don't think he has, but I think he'd probably be fine with people from poor countries or just people who can't afford the game pirating it (He had Deltarune Chapter 2 free because of corona). For people who have the money he'd probably want them to buy it though.
Blaise be like: You can't pirate my mod, but I can look at "Christmas Presents" in my "homework" folder. (He got arrested for being attracted to children. Btw I came up with christmas presents all by myself.)
@@Xanthopathy well, this is your view. I think piracy is only okay when it's against big corporations because small developers need money and support, and even if the game is bad, they are trying to do something on their own. Big corporations won't get poor if you pirate their game, small developers will lose money (and with that, opportunities to invest in their game and improve).
The actual Undertale one is even greater in my opinion, because Flowey does that, but also basically roasts the shit out of you while doing it, I remember him saying like "if you can't afford to buy a game, you probably can't afford to buy a life" LMAO
@@Temmie4Life It really doesn't, pirates get around this kind of stuff all the time. They found a way to bypass this screen pretty quickly because of how badly it was implemented
Unfortunately people found a way to bypass this and pirate bits and pieces. My friend infact even showed me how they did it. I would say how in hopes the owner of the mod would see it but at the same time I feel like that'd make things worse as then everyone would know how. So I'll remain silent about it for now. Edit: Read the comment section, my opinion has changed vastly since.
Unfortunately though, the reason I don't like it when people pirate undertale is kind of due to toby fox himself, and how 10$ isn't necessarily a lot. I mean while you may have pirated now, I'd consider actually buying the game in the future just to support the creator of the game.
@@toolazytorenamemyself ye but I bought the PS4 version one year ago.... I'll never buy a pc version cause I've already done it...... but...... unfortunately I don't remember my old email for steam.(Now I have another account) How soon are they going to finish the mod ? Do you know or do you have an idea ?
As far as I know, the pacifist run isn't finished and I think genocide still has a few things that need to be touched up on. Side things aren't finished yet. The mod page gives the best information for the mod so I'd rely on it. I heard a hard mode is planned (Aka an actual finished hardmode when you name yourself frisk which changes things, majorly in the genocide run and I don't know about the pacifist or neutral runs.)
@@stanzacosmi The weird thing is Undertale mods usually work on Pirated versions as I can tell, it's just this certain mod with a Piracy screen that doesn't work
@@EP1CxEMAN08 probably something stupid like checking in what path the game is installed. i'm going to laugh so much if it's actually that kekw edit: considering that they have a custom exe (custom gamemaker runtime) they might have implemented protection in that. although i don't think that's it since as seen in this video it's after the runtime finishes loading the game. it's probably just deltarune's (survey_program) runtime that's used in a lot of big mods for undertale. they probably just changed .exe name and icon lmao edit2: oh wow, they actually decompiled the game and recompiled everything in gms2! that's a bit of an inconvenience, ngl. edit3: nvm their anti-piracy protection is literally just checking for codex.dll and things like that. god is that stupid. good job devs of the mod on making an anti-piracy measure that stupid. but yeah, they probably just torrented a repack of the game, installed it, and just searched for anything that relates to the repackers\hackers\whatever. codex kinda f'd up too since they put a steam emulator in a game that doesn't need one but yeah.
at first i didn't realize my game was pirated. it was a steam gift, and i might have just messed up the modding but this screen filled me with anxiety and legitimately scared me more than a horror game.
it's real. look in the description of this video. I like how they didn't try to make you scared, they just wanted to let you know they were disappointed that you didn't buy the game.
