What made this fight so interesting to me is that Sans is fully aware that he is doomed. He knows no matter how hard he tries or how much he throws at the player, they’ll just come back for more. He isn’t fighting to save his ass; he couldn’t care less about that. He’s fighting because he can’t stand by and knowingly let you through just because fighting is futile. He’s fighting because he “can’t afford to not care anymore” and that is powerful.

Ever notice how Sans’s theme seems to be the only boss theme without a clear end? Bonetrousle, Death by Glamour, Bergentruckung, etc. all have a point where the song fades away completely and has to start over from the beginning. But Megalovania doesn’t; it just kinda keeps going until it gets back to the loud part again. Maybe I’m either reading too much into it or pointing out the obvious, but I feel like it represents how Sans is the only boss that you just can’t seem to hit, and after a while it feels like the battle has been going on forever - you can’t remember when it started and you don’t know when it’ll end. Idk, I like to think of it that way

The reason the devs gave sans only 1hp, 1atk, and 1def is because they knew that's all he'd need to kick your ass. Beware the silly ones indeed.

Imagine the pain the monsters go through when you kill them. In just two hits with a plastic toy, you've sliced clear through a monster. Think about it. How much force would it take to put a fake weapon through you? How hard would you have to punch someone to kill them on impact? How much would it hurt (and not just Undyne) that their brightest symbol of hope was beaten to death with ballet shoes? Sans won't fight you unless you've left him no other choice. In some neutral routes, he won't even let you back underground. ("Anyways, never come back. You're not welcome here.") He never made the promise to protect you in genocide, and do you know why? Because you killed Toriel. You killed one of the only monsters who wanted you to live. And, no, it wasn't Chara's fault. Did Chara push the button? Did Chara sit there for hours, mindlessly murdering everyone in the underground? No. That was you.

This boss battle was just the ultimate showdown, it symbolises how you have done something terrible, and you must atone for your sins, it also makes you realise that sans isn’t a “lazy bones” he’s just depressed because he knows that no matter what he’s doing or will do, it will all be reset

Sans is one of the greatest game characters in Gaming History. His acting, his comedy, his battle, everything is so amazing. His reactions and friendship literally feel like you are talking to a real life friend. No game could create this feeling aside from undertale... *But when you get on his nerves you gotta be careful, or else YOU ARE GONNA HAVE A BAD TIME*

This fight shows a lot about how admirable Sans’ character really is. Initially he comes across as this all knowing guy with a plan from start to end but based on the neutral endings he’s actually pretty selfish, only really caring when Toriel/Papyrus dies. When he fights you near the end of genocide he’s not just doing it for the sake of the few monsters that are left, but also for the sake of humanity, rather than the only two monsters that he ever really cared about before that. So him finally choosing to fight you (in a battle he knows he can’t win) shows a turn to selflessness that he doesn’t show anywhere else in the game in my opinion.

I love how sans is that mysterious character that is ultimately a prankster but knows what's going on. He can't do the things that frisk and flowey can do but he understands how they work and can manipulate frisk accordingly. But then there are moments when he just acts like a normal character but you don't trust it. You feel like he knows way more than he's letting on. He's a very well written character

Ok, weird thought, but have you guys ever thought about the fact that Sans is the only character to Dodge your attacks. It's almost like he learned how to Dodge from someone... Perhaps it was Gaster. Or maybe it was YOU.

My high school played this today at an assembly for Halloween, I was shocked as soon as I heard the tune, I guess the suggestions had good tastes.

Something I noticed in the Genocide run... Everyone else like Undyne and Asgore, they're trying to stop the villain your playing as, Chara. But Sans, he's different. He's not here to stop Chara, he's here to stop YOU. He makes you rage quit, reset, do all these things. In Sans eyes, he's fighting and infinite being that always comes back, but that won't stop him. He'll keep kicking your ass until you kill him or he kills your ability to keep trying.

The song of death, torture and frustration, but determination. Became funny. The internet sure is a wonderful place.

Reality: A deep character that is hinted to be suffering with deep depression, and openly admits that if he hadn't made a promise to someone he cares about you would be dead where you stand. During his battle he uses all of his energy to stop you, even though he knows that you will come back. He wants to make you quit the game to prevent this from being completed, and even in a Pacifist run he seems so nonchalant about finally being freed from the underground, because he knows it's all fake, and he knows you'll just start all over again, and he can do nothing to stop you except give you the hardest battle in the game to make you quit from frustration, if only to keep the ones he loves alive a little while longer. I love the fact that this is one of the only songs in Undertale to not use any melodies from other songs. It’s not Undertale’s song, it’s Toby’s universal theme for: “You’re Screwed”

Sans' fight is pretty much Papyrus' fight but on 500 cans of steroids.

I think being statistically the weakest enemy in the game carries a lot of symbolism, as well as adding to his badass factor. If you think about it, the only way you get to level up is killing enemies. I feel he may have charmed his way through life instead, never needing to kill anyone up until now. However, he's smart. He actively avoids your attacks, uses poison, and *actually takes advantage of his low attack power* to hit you continuously without activating your invincibility frames. He's capable of putting up more of a fight than any other enemy in the game, because he doesn't need power. He knows how to use it. He's gotten this far without levelling up once. So, the big question is... *What would happen if he could be bothered to train?* edit: I'm not saying it's actual poison, I was just comparing it to poison because it works that way in observable application irregardless of whatever it needs or doesn't need to achieve that effect on the main character. I can say with a garruntee that it works LIKE poison in the one time we see it in action and that is a constant, regardless of whether it's actual poison, or some kind of allignment based accumulation of the recipient's sins. And I'm really sorry for being a killjoy, but, please, there could be many, many more things to talk about and speculate on here. I would idealy love to join in with people in this comment thread but it's difficult to find something that isn't that same "correction", which I've talked about already.

Sans isn’t fighting to save himself or anyone else, unlike the other enemies. He doesn’t give a shit about any of that. He’s fighting to annoy you enough to generate even a slim chance that you quit.

it's not Chara's theme, not Sans' theme, it's YOUR theme. Its the player's theme song. You killed them, you grew hungry for leveling up, you wanted everyone dead.

Y’know, as much as this song has been memed to hell and back, I still thing it is a genuinely good final boss theme. Not only are you fighting the most powerful enemy in the game (aside from Chara), you are fighting someone who is willing to lay down his life for his friends and his home, and he is NOT going down without a fight. You are on the brink of becoming the most powerful being in the world, and this skeleton is the only one in your way, and he has nothing left to lose.

Little did anyone know that sans would be in one of the most iconic fighting games in the history of gaming.

I've kind of made a theory as to why Sans is so powerful and all-knowing(= (and by that i mean he knows about your power to reset, save, and he also remembers more after a reset.) If you find the key to Sans's workshop, you can find out that he has a scientific background, which is how he knows Alphys. (this part is almost 100% speculation) He's done research on things like determination(the power that lets you pursue after death, and in Frisk's case, the ability to save, load, and reset.), KR (Karma, the poison-like effect that happens when you get hit by Sans; which also eliminates invincibility frames.), and even the resetting and the loading. This is how he can deal 1 damage 20 times in half a second, and also how he knows about your determination (we know this because of his battle dialogue.) This is why he is one of the deepest and most powerful characters in Undertale.

This fight makes you realize how now you're some sort of demon king, that you're no longer the hero, but the villain who must be defeated to save everyone. You can easily tell by the fact that now Sans is the one to give the first attack when in like 99% of the RPGs the hero (aka the player) has the first turn

The word "overrated" holds no real meaning as a proper argument towards why you shouldn't like something. Which is why, after all this time, after all the covers, parodies, memes and everything beyond... I still love the hell out of this song. I genuinely don't feel like I'll ever get sick of it. It's true, he only has 1 HP and 1 ATK and is the weakest monster in the game. At base level. [Check] does not tell you his attack speed, dodge rate, mana bar, armor multiplier, stamina bar, dodge rate, active combat head-up display, devil room chance, crit chance, movespeed, "which touhou character are you" quiz results, extraction chance, set bonuses, dodge rate, percentage of super meat boy completed, most played dota 2 hero, or power level. Humanize yourself and face to reset.

The genocide ending just reminds me of OFF... You killed everyone... You destroyed the world... YOU are the antagonist. I know many other games do this and this was just a coincidence, but really, OFF and Undertale are the two RPGs that give you a major consequence for your actions
