Reminds me onetime when I was out hunting in the middle of nowhere during an earthquake. It started as a low audible rumble but also an inaudible vibration in my chest and all around me. The trees made a strange noise as they shook their leaves and branches. Definitely different than just the wind ... ill never forget it. It really was like a giant just pivoted and groaned...

Man I can not fathom how that would feel, from physical sensation to the adrenaline rush of your survival instincts kicking in. Absolutely wild timing lol, would only be crazier of you were touching the sea floor

I've experienced it. Pretty weird and cool experience. First was more than 4yrs ago. We had a 5.7 magnitude earthquake 2 days before the dive so we had aftershocks. It was like being inside a washing machine due to the sound. Saw all the other divers panicking and swam fast back to their boat. Last week was the latest one. Had a small earthquake in the morning, then during the dive, heard a quick one. It was just like being under the water while a big cruise ship starts their engine. (We were in the shallow and no big ships around)

I have been underwater during an earthquake... the only noticeable things were a pulse/explosion/crack sound followed by a PULSE in the water some time later.

That would have scared the ever living crap outta me. I'm out after that - better safe than sorry. I'll find something else to do for a while until I know it'll remain "safe" 🦈

Honestly, I would have jumped at first but then I would stay down there to completely take in what's happening around me. It's not every day that you get to experience an underwater Earthquake

For some reason that was so calming to listen like a Submarine passed by or an underwater explosion happened. I thought I would see the sea bed moving as well.

I’ve been too puerto Vallarta on my first day went out into the water until I could barely see the beach then absolutely panicked and swam back being caught in a wave and skudded into the beach.... you my friend are brave.

i experienced this one while scuba diving, my reaction was same as you, looking back to make sure if everything was okay, it was eerie.

I heard the boom, but what is up with all the crackling? Is there a mining operation near that? Boats don’t sound like that.

sound transmits thru water better.. i did sound like a quake.. a small one perhaps,, on land they might felt or heard nothing,, but under water.. you can hear much more.. a denser medium

I think the scariest part is the uncertainty what caused this loud sound. If he'd exactly knew that an earthquake caused this sound, he wouldn't have been as scared.

Man, when they where a series of severe earthquakes here in Oaxaca (coast region) we heard very similar sounds when we slept, at the time we slept outside in tents, so we had our ears on the ground, an when an earthquake happened, we would hear a sound like this one and some kind of liquid-ish sound too

This is an aftershock from the 6.9 Chiapas earthquake 2 days earlier. What will really freak you is this was over 400 miles away and by the time you heard it, already happened near 4 minutes earlier (assuming it happened near point at Chiapas tectonic plate).

In a medium such as water, it makes sense that an earthquake would be as loud as it was in the video.

You can hear the initial crack of earth movement that resulted in the earthquake. That's pretty cool.

Had absolutely same situation but i was scuba diving in Croatia, when 3.8 hit us. Few seconds before fishes went crazy.

Im guessing you were next to a reef? That sound of all the cracks and clicks and pops from what i hear are something that happens when you dive on a reef? Is that was all that noise is?

How you know that you are experiencing earthquake? Before we are swimming at the beach but we barely felt the earthquake until the people from the land told us it was around Magnitude 4

I love all the personal accounts of people telling the dude "yeap this was an earthquake" and how they know from personal experience. Yet when you look at the confirmed audio recordings on RU-vid they sound nothing like this.

For a second I thought that the school of fish was a bunch of rocks thrown up after the bang.

Not kidding you, but spearing in Philippines and Indonesia, three times I have felt the shock waves of dynamite fishing blasts. It's intensely unnerving and an eartquake would really freak me out as I'd think about whether a tsunami would be incoming before I could make it to shore and up a hill.

I've seen a video where there are several divers in the water and when the earthquake hits, the current changes and the divers are struggling to stay in place, rocks start falling and the sand/silt is SUPER disturbed, created an underwater cloud. In the video above.....considering there was no disturbance of the rocks, the silt, the land above the water and no change in the current / waves.....I think that was something else. Not an earthquake.
