When I worked in Rostock the water was very clear, but no visibility in Hamburg. Same thing in Denmark, very much depends on where you are.

Wow, you must have seen some changes, both in equipment but also in health & safety and workflow. My previous boss started diving in the sixties, he didn’t much care for the sja and toolbox meetings, he just wanted to jump in and build stuff. Learned a of from him.

I started in 66 and the first time I've participated to a toolbox meeting was in 89 lol. Luckily a lot of things have changed to improve diver's safety. My first boss was exactly the same as yours.

I Have a question in regards to this. I've looked allot around this and i'm currently in the Marines in training as a police officer (almost finished to thank god). But i had done welding and construction before-hand with my father and it always interested me and that interest has been growing more and more as i get closer and closer to doing my job as an officer. I;d have plenty of free time to practice depending where i end up. But the root of the question is Where do you go to learn this? I'd love to get taught as you had to just jump in and learn as I've had some experience welding but not diving (which will change soon) Where would i go to look for an apprenticeship or where to start? I've looked around but i'd like to talk to people who've had experience before with these sort of things. Any advice or pointers?

By the way watching your videos on what the work looks like seems like a load of fun to me. Thanks!

Hey Dude! Usually you’d do some basic commercial dive training - loads of different schools/academies around the world. Basic courses are surface supplied to 50 meters. After this you can specialize in welding, eod, inspection or whatever takes your fancy. Check to see if there are commercial dive companies in your area and ask them what they suggest. They can also tell you if they are busy and need staff.
