We were issued M-1s & M-2s for USAF stateside flight line security from 1968 to 71. Those of us with M-2s were instructed never to adjust the selector lever. My M-2 had well preserved blond stocks & got a lot of TLC at the guard-mount cleaning table.....Over the years since, I've leered at carbines in stores but never wanted to pay the eight fingers & two thumbs that they wanted.
I've read my grandfathers World War 2 diary...64 pages total. September 9th 1943 he traded in his 1903 A1 Springfield for an M1 Carbine. He believed the semi-auto Carbine was a nice upgrade in the thick jungles of New Guinea. I plan to locate a nice M1 Carbine to add to my collection !
I don't know how I didn't comment on this. I have an Underwood carbine as well, and mine has been very reliable. Super sweet shooter, all the Underwood markings still on it, with the Flaming Bomb cartouches, button style mag release, and no bayonet lug. Super sweet shooter.
I have 5, 30 Carbine chambered Firearms in my collection. A WWII Inland manufactured Carbine, a post war Universal M1 military styled Carbine, a Universal Enforcer M1 pistol, a Ruger Blackhawk and Marlin model 62 Levermatic. Still looking for an AMT Automag III. LOVE them all the 5 of them make an interesting look at the popularity of the 30 Carbine cartridge over the years.
Known people who have used the .30 USC on deer at closer ranges, even meat hogs in the 80-130 pound class. I have owned one since I was 15 my folks got from DCM for $17.50. I've used it and a M1A1 carbine in law enforcement in the early days and took my own on robbery stakeouts in addition to my issue 12 gauge. Still a good weapon for home defense and even some police operations.
Just found a underwood M1 carbine in the loft of my garage. Under the rear sight it says RIA I learned that’s Rock Island so idk if I have a true original. After seeing this vid I’m super excited to take this to the range! Gonna learn to clean it n stuff first.
We always called those holsters “Tankers”. I think the Army called them M7 chest holsters. Maybe you said that, and I missed it? But anyone looking for one will have great search engine success with “M7 Tanker Holster”. Hope you are well, George. Regards, Marky
Thanks for your vids, I watch many. A little known fact the m1 carbine was used by many medal of honor recipients and other heros like audie Murphy, in the right hands it does the job.
You don't see a lot of Underwoods. I believe the complete name is Underwood-Elliott. Might be worth a tad more in my neck of the woods. I have an Inland which is the most prevalent. My son has a U.S. Postal Meter plus few more whose manufacturer escapes me. I once had a Ruger Blackhawk in 30 Carbine and it was ferociously loud. Rifle powder out of a handgun.
I am living in India. My father is having this M1 carbine on prohibited bore license it means that inly VIP can keep this carbine and on the other side i m having NPB licence and i am not allowed to keep this M1 carbine. Now my question is sir can u suggest me how we can convert this carbine from automatic to single shot.
