While the lycans fight the vampires, Lucian (Michael Sheen) fights and defeats Viktor (Bill Nighy).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
The Underworld series gets the prequel treatment with this third outing that fleshes out the story of the ancient war between the vampiric Death Dealers and their wolfman counterparts, the Lycans. F/X technician Patrick Tatopoulos (Godzilla, Independence Day) steps out of the effects lab and into the director's chair with this entry, which sees stars Bill Nighy returning as Viktor, the king of his vampire clan and father to Sonja (Rhona Mitra), a free-minded heir who tests her parent by heading outside of their castle's borders and doing battle with the ravenous werewolves of the surrounding area. Sonja also has a secret love affair with Lucian (Michael Sheen), the first of the Lycans, a race of lycanthropes who were bred by the vampires to be slaves and protectors to the bloodsucking clan. As the news of their love spreads to Viktor, ranks of the vampire elite help Lucian escape, leading to a revolution of the Lycans against their masters and setting up the mythology of the later latexed adventures featured in Len Wiseman's two previous films.

I’ve always appreciated Lucian as a character He wasn’t blinded by or afraid of how he and the other Lycans were treated and instead of complaining or keeping his head down he did something about it He also wasn’t prejudiced he didn’t want to kill all vampires he just wanted to be considered an equal unfortunately at the cost of his woman

@@fersho450 sad thing is is it’s not even technical that all of underworlds problems comes from victor because without him they’d probably be less then half of the amount of problems the vampires and lycans have throughout this series because first he’s not the origin of his species but he had such a large ego he had to be the first vampire two marcos the true origin of their species was like Lucian and he doesn’t hate them and he’d probably have been a lot fairer to Lucian and all the lycans after all his brother is their forefather basically three Marcos actually loved the idea of the species blending as long as he’d be able to rule over them just like how he had as the vampire elder so in reality all the key issues for the war kinda disappear

When Lucian had Viktor tied up in chains, he could have held him in the sunlight, which would have killed him for sure. Instead he opts for stabbing him through the mouth which Viktor can very easily regenerate from.

Typical commoners like us will never understand the position of the elite. The 2 of them blending the species would have been disastrous for the Vampires and humans as well. Super powered Vampires who have the overwhelming strength of Lycans and no Vampire weaknesses. Its a no brainer why that was a big problem that superceded any relationship that we see in the movie

He was outdoing him with the swords, so Lucian tackled him and even when on the chains he had Lucian unarmed and Viktor showed all he cared about was catching his ride. Sure he could have dedicated his time to killing Lucian, but he'd be stranded in a castle packed with Lycans instead of safe on his boat...In his same position I'd rather take a sword through the mouth and escape than win a fight only to be ripped apart by a den of Lycans.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but this is my favorite movie of the Underworld franchise. Rise of the Lycans has it's faults, but it's the one I thoroughly enjoy the most. Only 2 things in the movie really bug me: characters don't speak very loud or clearly most of the time (I have to watch with captions on), and I just don't understand how Viktor survived that injury, other than for the obvious reasons of plot convenience. Maybe there's some lore outside the 5 films explaining things the movies don't tell us, and I wouldn't mind checking that out if it exists.

I’m impressed how Bill Nighy was able to handle swords with hands like his. For those who aren’t aware Bill Nighy has Dupuytren’s contracture (a condition that causes fingers to bend forward) in both of his hands, his ring fingers and pinkies are always curled up.

Lucian really SHOULD have transformed into lycan form in his battle with Viktor. It's inconceivable that he could ever have a chance in his weaker human form. But, for 'visual' purposes, the director thought that viewers would 'relate' to Lucian more if we could still see his pretty face rather than a beast.

Viktor realized this hybrid abomination that Michael had become was indeed very powerful. He knew that he wouldn't have existed in the first place, and his beloved adoptive daughter probably would've never discovered his secret about him killing her family had Kraven not been allowed to rise to power through his lies about slaying Lucian. He grabbed this hybrid by the throat and began throttling it. Viktor: I should've inspected that fortress the moment Kraven came out with Lucian's branded skin! Selene: (picks up his sword) Yes...you should have...(cleaves his face in two with a fatal leap)....but you didn't.

1. Would Lucian have been able to control William? 2. Would Marcus and Lucian have been on the same side had Lucian lived?...Maybe not since Marcus was trying to kill Michael. 3. Could Lucian go toe to toe with Marcus or Michael? 4. Was Marcus now able to fly because of the Lycins blood that awakened him? 5. Why did it take Marcus so long to start searching for William when he has ruled multiple times by himself for 100 YEARS each time? I have so MANY questions.

1. Lucian couldn’t control William. William only responded to Marcus because they shared a very close familial bond. But William likely would not have attacked Lucian, since he would recognize a fellow Lycan. 2. No, Marcus’ goal was to create a new race of hybrids of which he was the master. Lucian would not have bowed to Marcus. They would have come into conflict. 3. Likely not. Lucian is shown to be slightly weaker than Viktor, who was able to overpower Michael but would not have been able to defeat Marcus even before Marcus became a hybrid. Marcus would have beaten Lucian without a doubt. 4. Yes, Marcus was able to fly because he became a hybrid by the Lycan’s blood. Because he was a vampire first, he took on more bat like traits, like wings. 5. Marcus “ruled” but the Council and all of the other vampires were either loyal to Viktor or Amelia. Andreas Tanis was exiled because he knew that Marcus was the true first vampire and that knowledge was a threat to Viktor. As an Elder, Marcus was not strong enough to fight the entire coven, but as a hybrid he was.

Viktor was was winning this fight at first. Was dominating Lucien with the swords. Swung him several feet with his legs. Only thing that crippled him was the sunlight. Please rewatch it. Only licks Lucien really got in was when he knocked Viktor to the ground. As you can clearly see Viktor had way more strength. The way he was pushing Lucien back when their swords were drawn against one another before he knocked Lucien to the ground

I mean to be fair, this is a prequel so they would change things. Here lucian is a badass fighter and got alot of depth while the first movie we couldnt see much. If this movie somehow was the first made movie, im sure that underworld 1 would have played out much different

Lucian was the most powerfull lycan from the entire Underworld Series because he was the first who freed his people from slavery. Plus the fact that Lucian was much powerfull than Marius and Quint the other lycan leaders.

In order to guard the castle from the wild werewolves he had to know how to fight. That's why he was trained.Viktor never allowed Lucian to turn ever. So he couldn't fight the wild werewolves in his true lycan form. Thats why when Lucian took off his spiked collar and finally turned to protect Sonja, Viktor punished, disowned him, and threatened to kill him.

imagine if lucian managed to inject himself amelia's blood.. A lycan elder (technically), with hundred of years experience + Vampire elder blood.. he would be more powerful than michael for sure, and would crushed viktor easily

No ... only Amelias blood could not make Lucian that strong. Thats why he needed the blood of Michael. if you want to became a hybrid you must have the blood of Alexander Corvinus. So Michael had it ... If Lucian injects the pure blood of Amelia he would die ... But yes, that was the deal. Lucian needed a hybrid to defeat Viktor. Viktor was so powerful that no one ( except Marcus ) would habe beaten him ... he destroyed Raze in the lycan form with bare hands easily. And even Michael lost to him ... Lucian would have been for sure stronger than Michael. And i think if he could inject all the blood ... he would have won. But ... he didnt.

This scene makes no sense with the lore of the 1st movie. In the 1st underworld movie, Viktor is the strongest out of everyone, including Lucian. There is a line where one of them says "Viktor has awoken, he grows stronger by the day, there is no defeating him" and then Lucian replies "Don't you think I know that?" ... but here they went backwards on that, and Lucian defeats Viktor? dumb scene.

Lucian had help from the sunlight, the chains and his speed. In a 1 vs 1 match Lucian would lost badly. Also you must say ... Viktor was only 500-600 years old to this time. In the first underworld movie he was 1500 years old. So he get stronger every day since he is a vampire elder and they get stronger with the age. So in the first movie there was no way to defeat Viktor. You see what he does to Raze? He destroyed him with bare hands in his lycan form and even Michael lost to him as a hybrid. Lucian only won this match with luck back in the day.

Viktor is a vampire elder. He can regenerate from every injury when his body isnt completely destroyed. They are not all ... the three elders Viktor, Marcus and Amelia are much more powerful than any lycan. Also the vampires have a great army. Viktor was once the ruler over the whole land. He had more power, more support, more soldiers.

And the other two elders were killed extremely easily by the Lycans -- off screen. And from what I observed, there are more Lycans than vampires.

If Viktor was not surprised over the attack from Selene, he could have hold his head piece and regenerate but it was a surprising attack. You know only Amelia was killed in the train? She had no weapons and was attacked off guard from 20 lycans or so ... the last elder is Marcus. Marcus is the most powerful character in the whole franchise. He was the first and strongest vampire and in the second movie he was a three-strain-hybrid out of Alexander Corvinus´ blood, vampire blood and werewolf blood. Nobody could beat Marcus in a fight ... nobody in all the five movies. His body was destroyed by the rotor of a helicopter in the second movie. So Viktor and Marcus were extremely powerful and Amelia was attacked off guard ... so she had no chance. Lucian would have lost against all of them. No there was not only this caven. It looks like but Viktor had many more soldiers and a greater army.

@@sev1626 Okay, then let's just talk about this movie, with this movie's era (looks like medieval). Vampires soldiers were the exact same as humans to Lycans (vampire soldiers had no super strength or anything, relative to the Lycans), and all elders except Viktor were asleep (hence vulnerable). And there were WAY more Lycans than the vampires if you included the lyans from the outside. That's how the vampires were overrun so easily at the end of the movie, despite the fact that the vampires had a lot better technology and armor. I guess I had it wrong about Marcus. And yes, Amelia was killed in the train, but she had her soldiers -- aka weapons -- aka she was not unarmed. And she couldn't even kill a single Lycan soldier. And she wasn't jumped by 20 lycans (she heard them coming). In the scene, there were only 2 (although a person can argue that there was only one). There was one guy outside, just in case, but it turned out to be an unnecessary precaution.

@@michaelsong5555 Thats not true. Normal vampires also had super strenght but not as strong than the elder. Sure, werewolfs are stronger than normal vampires. But the werewolfs didnt had a leader back then. And then came Lucian. Also the wild werewolfs were not to control ... except by Lucian. Because he was a alpha for them. Thats why the overrun the vampires in that scene. Amelia was unarmed. Did you watched the movies? In this train only were 2 soldiers and the rest were noblemen and noblewomen. The squad that should be with them betrayed them and hasnt done anything because Lucian had a contract with Kraven. And it were more than 3 Lycans ... 10 lycans for sure. That was to much for a unarmed Amelia in the train. But you can also say ... Amelia died for the plot.

Elders have more power than the normal ones the bitten by them are even more powerfull than one that is bitten by a random vampire Marcus as the First had more power then this makes Viktor almost as powerfull as him
