Tim Duncan has no DPOY either, it makes no sense. Especially in today's game they just give it to the bigs. I think way more perimeter guys should have won DPOY. It's much harder to play perimeter defense than to guard the rim. Way more ground to cover, you're fighting over multiple screens each possession, and you're expected to switch and recover AND defend the rim too. But there are no numbers that account for those multiple efforts. AD to me is a one of one defender that can defend the rim at an elite level and when he's switched onto the perimeter he's still good enough to stay in front of the smaller quicker guy.

Tony Parker and D Rose were Taylor made for Lebron to guard because they couldn't shoot, all he would do is sag off of them and play for the drive while letting them shoot. An he never matched with them the whole game only in spots. Lebron would never guard a Curry or Dame Lillard or any good shooter, he'd get cooked .

The reason why Bron didn't win DPOY in 2013 is because it would've been arguably the greatest individual season in NBA History. He would've won; regular season MVP, A NBA championship + Finals MVP, First team All-NBA, first team all-defense, and DPOY.

Lebron never had a better 2-way season than MVP Jordan in 1988. Played all 82, 35/6/5, 3.2 steals, 1.6 blocks, legit lockdown DPOY and scoring title, no LBJ year touched that.
Im a Bulls fan and i still remember D rose cooking the heat in the playoffs until Bron took him and locked him up. Broke my fckng heart. I know with all my soul Lebron was a GREAT defender. Sure maybe he didnt always take the challenge, but when it was needed, hes an all world defender no question.
He has never been a defensive powerhouse, posting up DPOY-type numbers. He's never even led a single defensive category. He needs to retire, his takes are so out of whack.
Mvps yes, DPOY no. Guards and Wings just don't have as much impact on defense as the bigs. You have to be like Prime Kawhi level on defense to even have an argument for DPOY. Smart, Payton and even Jordan shouldn't have won it.

Lebron is the only player on Defense I seen cover a PG to a C, and I seen him do it in the same game. The year Gasol won Lebron should of gotten the DPOY award. He should of won more MVPs too.

There was no year in lbj’s career where he was thought of as the best defensive player. He had a lot of solid defensive plays in his highlight reel. It’s just not a natural thing for the best offensive player to concern himself with the particulars of the defense.

Lebron is arguably the most versatile defender ever and why don't you ask MVP Rose if he was a good on ball defender. Look it is simple Gasol got 2nd team All Defense yet won the DPOY. It is a joke. And, to put Lebron in the category of Smart and Payton is absurd. Defensive versatility in a league built on switching to exploit mismatches is HUGE. He is a similar to players Rodman, Pippen, etc. in that regard that can guard 1-5 effectively. James deserved that DPOY and it is not close.
Lebron was literally guarding the #1 through the 4 during that season. Shutting down lightning-quick guards in the 4th quarter. If MJ won one as a SG there is zero reason Bron shouldn't have won. Lebron is far more versatile than MJ and from 1990 on mj never guarded the best perimeter player, Pipp did. 80% of Brons career he was guarding the best player in the 4th regardless of position. That particular season he finished 2nd to Marc the eye test tells you far and away it was Lebron. Lebron had the best 2-way season ever that year. 56 or 57% from the field, 40% from 3, 28 winning streak, MVP, finals MVP, shut down Derrick Rose in the ECF, etc. It was absolutely absurd.

I don’t think LBJ should be DPOY because there is usually 1-3 players that was better. Alex Caruso better be on one of the DPOY awards. Too bad they can’t have 1 guy from each position given the soft defense rules. I hope that the rules go back to hand checking.
I always say we should have a front court and back court defensive player of the year, it’s crazy to think Rudy gobert is possibly about to win his 4th DPOY and a player like jrue holiday has 0 because it’s a “Big man award”
I agree. He's a really good overall player. But he's never been known as a lockdown player. It's the same argument you could make that he's not the clutch guy you want taking the last shot with the clock winding down. If the game is on the line and the clock is ticking? If you're dribbling up the court and you see a locked in defensive Kobe, Rodman or Jordan at half court... you'd be glad if it was LeBron. And that's just those two. There are guys that know their paychecks don't have anything to do with them putting the ball in the hoop. There are guys who dedicate their game to defense. It's their bread and butter. LeBron is a freak athlete. He's not a you're not scoring on me kinda guy. He doesn't have that mentality.
Give defensive player of the year to a big man when big men shoot the highest percentage from the floor and can’t guard perimeter players never made any sense
Should of done it 10 yrs ago when he was a decent defender. He is not a top tier defender anymore, hasn’t been in awhile. Can’t get a DPOY resting on defense 80% of the game. Can’t give him one now just cuz you feel like he should of got one a decade ago. That’s not how this works.
